Meghan and Harry. Has anyone changed their opinion post Oprah?

Meghan, we think you are the ideal person to modernise the monarchy and make us relevant to young people again!

Great, I'd like to start by concentrating on specific causes that are close to me and maybe side-line some of the more archaic practices, that's what young people would like!

Megan hasn’t lived within a family, her parents divorced when she was 7. She was close to her father. She married but divorced after 2 years. Lived with a celebrity chef until she met Harry.

She seems to move on and leave people behind with the exception of her mother.

It could all have been so different couldn’t it?
Meghan was initially described as a breath of fresh air, a mixed race person who could have helped modernise the Royal family’s image in these diversity-led days.

I’m pretty sure if a poll on the popularity of our Royal family were conducted there would be a big difference in support across the ages with younger people far less likely to be supportive of a monarchy.

If Meghan had been the right person she could have been such an asset to them in years to come, couldn’t she?

Instead what did we get?
All her faults have already been discussed and I for one hope the fallout from this dreadful self-centred woman is short lived.

Well maybe Ellianne But I do also think that protocols and approaches to "royal work" need to be looked at, brought further up to date, more realistic maybe etc.

NellG.Meghan had a book about Diana on her bookshelf apparently so she did know all about her life.I think she is trying to be like Diana .and if you read what her brother said about her before she married Harry.you will see he was right .

Meghan couldn't stand the fact she and harry had to stand to the side and just behind Kate and William and that Yes she would have to curtsy to kate. She imagined they would be 'the fab four'. Harry should have done what his brother advised and took his time, for meghans sake as it happens.

He was running out of options wasn’t he Galaxy! The need for someone without a ‘past’ was paramount in those days, particularly for the heir. Second born sons? Not so much, hence Fergie and Meghan.

Perhaps one reason Harry was reluctant to admit to his family that his wife was suffering mental health problems relating to her new life was that they might turn round and say that both of them rushed into things, and that was yet another reason they should have given it all more time, for her to get more insight into the working life as a royal, all that would entail, and yes, to get to know each other much better.

I read an interesting article yesterday about Meghan, shortly before she married, regularly visiting the Grenfell Kitchen, working in the kitchen, cooking with the women who set it up. She was evidently much liked and appreciated. She, with others, organised the cookery book publication ...I think it was her idea. Reading about her behaviours, approaches and how people there liked and appreciated her ...it highlighted something about a picture in her mind of what her royal life would be like ...and was such a contrast to what she expressed in that interview. It did make me wonder how things could have so drastically changed to the point where things are now. A great shame!

It does amuse me that one isn't allowed to criticise Kate who lives a life of privilege in an outdated institution

Perfectly possible to criticise Kate just as it is to criticise anyone else, but inevitably that might result in others not agreeing!!

NellG I think you’re right about M&H having MH problems. They can afford to get help, so I hope they do.

It's clear there are MH problems, I hope whoever they seek help from will be able to identify and treat the right one.

I have had quite a bit of experience with close family members and suicidality. I’m sorry but I just can’t believe that someone in that mind frame could dress up and attend a public event where they are on show. For a start they couldn’t be bothered dressing up and going out. I actually felt quite sick about those claims because it was so calculated and so blatant. I think the one with mental problems, if indeed there are mental problems, would be Harry.

Absolutely. It’s beyond belief isn’t it? No one can ignore that state, it’s far too obvious to the observer.

I agree Annie. I don't believe that Harry, who has so much to do with supporting mental health work, would have dismissed his pregnant wife's appeal for help when she was in a suicidal state - because it would look bad!

I watched the interview because I wanted to know what was actually said, not what the media choose pick up on. I kept being reminded of Debbie in Addams Family Values.

I have watched someone very close to me suffer deteriorating mental health and eventually break down. It’s truly excruciating to watch to be honest, and that’s why I’m shocked that the person/people closest to Meghan, failed to get her help, if she was as ill as she’s described.

I mean, it is like a job interview isn't it, meeting the Queen? Or at least it would be. And it was taking on a work role and indeed a whole new life.

If any of us embarked on a whole new life, a massive lifestyle change without knowing what we were doing, I sincerely hope that someone would care enough to pull us back from the brink!
