We went purely mobile about 10 years ago, still pay for the land line itself to get wifi, it amazes me how many don’t keep their mobile with them, especially when out of the house

Two different issues there jaxjacky.

I take my mobile with me everywhere but we have a land line at home, not just for wifi, but our village has some notoriously poor spots as far as mobile coverage is concerned and our house has granite walls so any feeble signal there is has difficulty struggling through!

Mobile reception is not always reliable where we live so consider a landline essential. Plus I have free international calls which is great for keeping in touch with friends far and wide

I disconnected my landline phone about 12 months ago and just keep it in the cupboard. Like you I have the landline just for the Wi-Fi

I have landline, have a mobile but find it difficult to hold

MissChateline Wed 10-Mar-21 11:10:54

I still have my landline but the only only person who ever calls me on it is my 89 year old dad. Most people I know have long since got rid of them. You can still have Wi-fi connection without having a phone.

Our Village has a terrible mobile phone signal, so we still have the landline, plus we have it for Broadband.
DH often drives out of the Village and his mobile pings constantly with missed calls and texts.

Have both. Largely forget to take the mobile with me.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 10-Mar-21 11:12:08

Yes got mobile which I take everywhere with me and yes also have landline too

I only have the BT landline because of the reliable broadband connection you can’t have one without the other. I use my mobile for all outward calls which are free whether I’m at home or out. One or two family members always ring the landline for some reason.

I am registered disabled and have a free landline, it is linked to the emergency services but I can use it as a normal phone too.
All calls in Belgium are free for me, both mobile and landline.
I actually do not get a good mobile signal in my apartment so I try to discourage people from calling me on my mobile.

We have a landline but don't use it except for wifi - anyone we want to talk to has our mobiles. I rarely carry my mobile - I've never felt the need to be continually chatting. If there is something in particular I might need it for I will carry it.

We have and still use our landline. Mainly because we use the loudspeaker for calls with members of the family to avoid having to repeat everything, and the speaker is better on the landline than on our mobiles. I always take my mobile when I leave the house.

We haven`t had a land line in years, and haven`t missed it either.

GreyKnitter Wed 10-Mar-21 11:16:08

We have a landline which we use occasionally and whilst I always take my mobile with me if we go out - well when we were able to go out - if I go for my daily walk I purposely go without my phone as I want to be away from contact! Our landline is mostly used by those making nuisance calls which we either ignore or my husband tells to go away!

Pittcity Wed 10-Mar-21 11:17:04

We haven't had a landline for ages. We are lucky to have fibre broadband, so no landline is needed.
We are moving house and so far nobody has blinked when we give mobile numbers and won't have a landline at the new house. We will be in a town centre with good 4g and expecting 5g later this year.

Urmstongran Wed 10-Mar-21 11:17:38

We have both. Use both. We are fortunate to have fantastic WiFi connection here.
I always take my mobile out with me - and turn the volume up on it as I go out the door! Plus, at bedtime I always switch the alerts for text messages off. I don’t want disturbing in the night - texts are never urgent, that’s the point of them! Then when I wake I turn the alert back on for the day.

Bet you all really wanted this much detail hehe!

I only use the landline for Wi-fi but then we have a good signal. I don’t miss the spam calls asking about my accident.

CleoPanda Wed 10-Mar-21 11:20:39

Mobile signal non existent in the house. We have to go to the top of the drive for a signal. Even then, not always reliable!
We tried 4 different networks over the years but none are any better.
So yes, we have to have a landline.
Take mobile phone out whenever we leave the house.

poshpaws Wed 10-Mar-21 11:26:10

Yes, I have a landline. I do receive calls on my mobile, but despite really having tried, I'm pretty cr*p at making calls on it, or texting. I must be a Luddite.

BlueBelle Wed 10-Mar-21 11:26:58

People that have got rid of their landlines how do you keep in touch with people who don’t have a mobile?
I have two elderly friends who don’t have mobiles and one friend who lives in the middle of nowhere and gets no connection
I have to have a landline for wifi so why not have a phone on the end of it for people who can’t connect you any other way

Blossoming Wed 10-Mar-21 11:30:19

Still have a landline, take my phone out with me in case I need help. I have to get Mr. B to collect me sometimes.

MaizieD Wed 10-Mar-21 11:30:43

We have both. I actually prefer to make calls on the landline.

We have fibre broadband but we still need the landline to carry it. (Someone said earlier that that don't need it. I don't quite understand how that works). So, even if we didn't have a phone on the landline I'd still keep the connection for the Wi-Fi because I detest using my phone for the internet. Much prefer the laptop.

Pittcity Wed 10-Mar-21 11:31:24

Bluebelle you simply ring their landline from your mobile. If they are worried about the cost of ringing a mobile I ring them back as the call is included in my £6 a month bill.

nanna8 Wed 10-Mar-21 11:31:47

We have both. I need the landline to ring the mobile when I can’t find it !
