It sums it up really. It’s fascinated me over the posts of the last couple of days to see that the republicans on Gransnet are even more obsessed than the royalists.

They’re all excited because they think it’s the end of the Monarchy. As if! It’s just revelling in the distress of a 95 yr old woman whilst her 99 yr old husband is probably nearing the end in hospital. What a hoot!!

I suppose I am a republican, although not a pitchfork-carrying one, but I'm not revelling in anything.

I find the debacle slightly interesting, as I am interested in human dynamics, and also because we bankroll the royal family, so if they are behaving badly they should be called to account.

Also, we are constantly told that they are ambassadors for the UK, and if the allegations of racism have any truth in them, that will tarnish our international reputation even more than Brexit and the government's handling of Covid has done already.

Should have explained what I meant a bit better, it’s the level of detail about the royals’ everyday lives that they know better than most other people that’s amazed me, and the relish with which those details are examined. I don’t know how people can know that stuff if they aren’t obsessed, which seems at odds with the disdain they portray. I can’t understand it. I think Janey Godley can though.

Janey's making fun those who protest just a little bit too much. Those who have an unshakeable conviction about MM and her motives. She's not making fun of anyone royal, past or present.

As for those who are obsessed Casdon, it's not the republicans who are starting and driving numerous threads based on their desire to gossip about people they don't know and make allegations about other GNers.

Alegrias1, there are definitely some republican posters who are aware of intimate detail of the (alleged) elements of royals’ daily lives that aren’t explicable in the context of enabling them argue a point from that perspective. You would maybe expect royalists to be fascinated by the mundane and indignant about what’s happened, but it has amazed me that some of the republicans care enough to get involved in discussions about the minutiae. Not all, of course, some are making more relevant points about the key issues from the Oprah thing. ’m not fussed either way myself, certainly not interested enough to immerse myself.
I did watch the Janey clip twice, and I did understand it by the way, she’s a perceptive woman.

I'm a bit fixated then on why you think the video is connected to your point about republicans knowing about royal details? "Margit" is someone who talks about Meghan, says she's not interested in her but actually knows all the gossip (not facts), hates her guts and thinks she's ruined the Royal Family. Does that sound like anyone we know on here?

The funniest thing about Janey is that she leaves no one unscathed - in particular the people who think she's poking fun at others and not them. She's a great leveller.

That’s what I was trying to say, less articulately than you have NellG, so thank you. I think Janey sees the whole picture, including what motivates people - she would see what I can’t claim to understand, as I said (or tried to!).
