I've just posted on legal and money about 2 different scams that came to my attention yesterday. Was purported to come from HMRC. I don't have time to type it all again but if you are worried please look at my other post.

there have been warnings about this HMRC and several scams of the same type on here in the last couple of weeks.

Yes you can have fake emails from named people you might know. They usually ask you for a favour, ie a lend of money as they are stranded abroad for instance.
