Rubbish Films

I find I mostly dislike films that I've read the book for first. Pesky people who cast the films never pick the right actors! Once I've read the book I have a very definite idea of what the character should look like, so more often than not spend the film muttering that he/she doesn't look anything like they should!

Under normal conditions I spend a lot of time in the cinema with my 11 year old autistic grandson who loves all types of films. As far as children's films go and as a warning to other GN's, brace yourself if you are asked to accompany any small people to 'The Emoji Movie'. It is the worst animated film I have seen for some time. I live in dread of 'The Emoji Movie 2'.

Glengarry Glen Ross - I paid to watch it, so I suffered.
La La Land - gave up after a few minutes.
The Dig (Netflix) - watched it all the way through in the hope that it might improve. It didn’t.

The Day After Tomorrow film with Jake Gyllenhall. Still makes me feel ill whenever I think about the dreadful wooden acting.

'Moulin Rouge'. Couldn't bear it.

The Favourite.... undoubtedly the worst film I have ever seen.

Mama Mia - good music but the plot.......was there a plot?
Also, am I the only person who found 'Dirty Dancing' a bit tedious? Again, memorable music but the plot left me cold.

Thank goodness I’ve avoided the most mentioned films. I just knew they weren’t for me.
Hated The Favourite, Olivia Colman having toddler tantrums
The Shape of Water just weird and that horrible greenish lighting.
The Big Lubowski tried to watch it a few times. Never finished it yet but love Jeff Bridges
All those grim Scandi films. Been dragged to more than I remember by best friend.
Anything that relies on gangster gore for an audience.
Can’t remember anything else. Haven’t been to cinema for a year.

Shutter Island and The Revenant starring Leonardo Di Caprio were so boring. I thought Dances with Wolves was dreadful as well.

Definitely La La Land, what a lot of hype for a very poor film.

Brief Encounter: both protagonists look and talk as if they have a rod inserted in their fundament. Celia is totally devoid of sex appeal.

Le Mans - even Steve McQueen couldn’t make that interesting. Apparently it nearly bankrupted him.
Clint Eastwood films - DH really rates them but I find them tedious.

I found the thread on rubbish books depressing enough (especially as several of the authors were friends of mine!) and now someone's come up with the idea of rubbish films. The world is tough enough right now as it is, so how about we stop telling each other about things we hate and find something positive to discuss about our entertainment choices? I'd far rather read about recommendations than a constant slagging-off narrative.

We both slept through 'Oh What a Lovely War' as it was so boring. Also on our list are:
LaLa Land
The Greatest Showman
Lawrence of Arabia (just camels coming and camels going!)
The Longest day (was soooo long!)
Groundhog Day (lost the will to live)
The Favourite
and we were so looking forward to The Jersey Boys after seeing the stage musical numerous times, but it was very disappointing!

Mama Mia .just awful. Maybe I’m missing the point. And bohemian rhapsody.... terrible

I would add:
Any James Bond film, anything with a car chase in it, endless fighting, battles, racing
And I may be very unpopular but we just watched "Nomadland" and I was utterly bored and lost as to what it was supposed to be about
You can tell when you haven't enjoyed a film by the groan you make as the end titles go up and when you say "is that it?"

Lala Land. So boring.
Any films about Robin Hood. They are often shown on Talking Pictures TV.
I agree about Jim Carey films. They are all rubbish.

La La Land - oh dear.
The Way We Were went on for so long and could have done with losing a good half hour - if not more.
PS I Love You - so schmaltzy - pass the sick bag.

I’ve fallen asleep in many a James Bond however.

Totally agree with The Greatest Showman. Period drama/musical with modern dancing just doesn't work.

The absolute worst film I’ve ever sat through was La Dolce Vita, which we went to an arty cinema with friends, lost the will. I thought it would never end. Also I remember Lawrence of Arabia which I saw as a teenager and was bored witless. Also never got into Star Wars films.

Anything with Jim Carey in. I'm definitely in the minority in my house. Everyone else thinks he's hilarious but he just makes my teeth itch.

I absolutely loathe the Mama Mia films but to be honest am not a fan of musicals.
I wasn't taken with Troy either despite quite a good cast.
