Holiday Adverts.

Must say that much as I will shun a packed and heaving beach, I don’t like absolutely deserted ones, either. Dh in particular likes observing other people and will refer to them by some term he thinks appropriate.

One year, when we’d met up with an American couple for the about the 3rd year running, he started referring to a particular (Brit) woman as ‘Wimbledon Sainsbury’s’. (Should add that this was not a derogatory term.)
I knew exactly what he meant, but the American bloke was intrigued and asked for an explanation.

We explained - he got it immediately and said they had ‘Wimbledon Sainsbury’s’ types in their area of New York. ?

Cannot understand the mindset of anyone contemplating a holiday outside of UK shores at the moment. I love to travel but the way Covid is currently rampaging through Europe is a big no no for me. Guess I must be more cowardly than the average person - even with two jabs.

Those holiday adverts get on my nerves at the moment! They seem mocking and misleading. I suppose after last year’s experience, when in the summer we thought it was all over, only to be bitterly disappointed. Still I don’t want to be a spoil sport, so let’s hope they’ll really happen for those interested.

Calendargirl I'm guessing you could call the adverts misleading in a way. You are unlikely to get anything like that for your money. But if the dream is beaches, good weather, family fun etc it is there for people to buy into. Especially this year, people need something uplifting and positive. Often we find security in doing familiar things amongst other people.
I just hope holiday companies are better poised to sort out refunds more efficiently this year if needed.

They must film those adverts out of season first thing in the morning when no one is about.
I am choosing my words very carefully here, but as Witzend says those sort of holidays must appeal to many people who either don't notice the crowds or who enjoy the buzz. They aren't really going for the stunning scenery or the culture. Fair enough.

If you move away from resorts there are many beautiful deserted beaches all over the world, including the UK.

I should imagine that most people who’ve been on that sort of holiday before, will know what to expect.

Having said that, I once spent an April week in Majorca with a friend. We found a beautiful beach on a little bay, clear turquoise water, few people, etc.

Went back in September, with dh along too - daft enough to expect the same - almost had to step over people, it was so packed. No sun umbrellas for love nor money, could barely find a place to sit. Had a quick swim and left PDQ.
