I seem to remember it was reported some time ago that Germany was somewhat economical with the truth regarding Covid deaths. Or anyway, they were counted differently than here.

There were lots of rumours like this generally put about by people wanting our figures to look less bad. It’s called statistical nationalism and has no basis in reality - unless you've got a link?

A draft recommendation from the German independent vaccine commission leaked to a local newspaper today calls for the AZ jab to be limited to the over-60s following a spate of cases of the dangerous brain condition in younger people. There have been 31 cases of cerebral sinous vein thrombosis in people who had been given the AstraZeneca vaccine in Germany, the country's medical regulator said today. Nine of those affected died.

We are still at 400 more deaths per million population from COVID than France though, so not covered in glory by any stretch of the imagination. I sincerely hope the differential doesn’t change now, because it would mean more people dying in France, and what we all want is for the deaths to stop, wherever they are.

What I read about the blood clots relating to the covid vaccine, is that in a very tiny percentage of people, the body responds in a hostile fashion to the vaccine, in the same way that occasionally people can react to Warfarin.

I think that’s about it GagaJo.

"Rare" is the operative word, and any reaction to any vaccine, although possible, is rare. Could blood counts be done prior to the jab for those people with a history of unstable platelet counts? That would eliminate their risk at least.
Maybe everyone else just has to take a chance.

Berlin and parts of Canada have restricted the use of AZ vaccine again due to the blood clotting issue. They have said this is a rare occurrence though.

Me too although I feel sorry for their citizens. Rather than calling another halt, why don't they just vaccinate those who want to receive it?

Me too GrannyGravy, but I’ve got fed up with it all now. You’d think they’d want to get everyone vaccinated wouldn’t you?

I just want everyone to get a jab, so the world can open up and we can take our lives/livelihoods off of hold!

They’ll just have to get on with it, I’ve got past caring what they do. I was keen on getting everyone vaccinated but if countries want to play silly games I’m at the point of thinking fine, get on with it. The latest scare is about blood clots again I think, but the blood clots are no more frequent than usual. Apparently very rarely some people lack something that makes the blood not clot, apparently it can be reversed quickly with blood thinners. If they prefer people to get Covid, so be it,

That's not the same as hypothesising that the French are where we were a year ago.

I'll take a rap over the knuckles for just passing on what a friend in France informed me yesterday when comparing the situation. According to her the French haven't done half the tests we have in the UK.
The current emphasis is on not overburdening the hospitals.
And she is still waiting for her vaccine.

Thanks Algrias. Incidentally I didn’t make anything up about anybody. I asked if anyone knew. I thought they would have a lot of cases if they were only testing serious cases.
