Who does it in your house? I do most of ours partly because I am better at it. (Talk about a poisoned challis). I also do the food shopping. other half is retired and I work 21 hours. He has to be quite closely supervised when he does cook.

If you do it, do you mind?

DH does virtually all of the cooking, because he loves it. (I do the clearing-up!) DH also cleans the bathrooms, does the vacuuming/mopping, the ironing (there isn't much of this) and some dusting. I take charge of cleaning the kitchen, including the appliances (oven, washing-machine, etc.) and we clean the fridge-freezer together. These tasks aren't fixed in stone: it's simply a partnership and we just get on with what needs doing. Though I have to admit that I am getting slovenly since the pandemic began - some surfaces really need dusting, now....

I do the shopping and the cooking . The washing up and clearing up afterwards . I do all the house work and the gardening . I may grumble now and then but if my family didn't need me , there would be no use for me . Plus I like my own cooking and my own tea and coffee .

I love cooking & baking so I keep it all to myself. he is not retired yet so quite easy. I doubt he would want to anyway.

Oh, it’s 100% me, preparing, cooking and washing up, loading the dishwasher. And I’m fed up with it. OH has dementia, so he’s not up to it. My daughter started doing lots of cooking, but seems to have got fed up with it. I have been shielding since Xmas, so I have had the time. But I’m so bored with it. Friday night is chip shop tea, oh heaven ??

It was me, but since he has been working from home, husband has taken over. I think its a chance for him to switch kff from work - his long commute bybtrain used to do that. I have become chief bottle washer and boy does he make a mess!! I do make soups and sometimes bake. Hes a good cook, but sometimes I want to do something my way, or see a new recipe I want to try, by which I mean I would like to cook. If he does it he'll fiddle with it so that what I get, however nice it is, won't be the dish I wanted.

I know that sound ungrateful, and I do like the help, but just sometimes I wish he would find the urge to do some cleaning instead!!

I do the majority and I like to get it all prepped in the morning. Nothing worse than getting to 5pm and thinking what we are having. Shopping is mostly online due to Covid, and we both do the order.

My OH is happy to cook. At the moment he is dieting and has cut out carbs. He stir fries one meal a day with chicken or lean mince, mushrooms, peppers or whatever veg there is and seasoning. Hes lost over a stone in weight which is great. I don't like that sort of meal so prepare myself something. I haven't lost any weight!

My husband cooks his own meals and I cook mine as we eat different things, i will sometimes share his vegetables if hes steaming or stirfrying them. I will help him chop his veg if he is doing them but apart from putting stuff in the microwave i cant say i cook anymore

I have always done every thing in the house and recently retired from 40 years as a full time nursing sister. My husband is still working and has recently told me I clean too much. Since retiring I cook every thing from scratch, including bread, biscuits and cakes. I plan every meal a week in advance and shop accordingly. Must admit we have very little food waste and our food bills have nearly halved. If hubby wants fish fingers it's fresh fish which I crumb using fresh crumbs and away to go. Got to admit I'm enjoying having the time.

I have been married almost 40 years and have done 90% of the cooking this time last year I lost my taste and smell but still did the cooking and to be honest from it being my hobby I completely lost interest and my meals were not the best .Two weeks ago DH criticized my efforts for the 3 rd time in a week ,I had a bit of a meltdown and since then he has cooked all the meals ...who knew he could cook ..all meals served nice and hot I still can't taste much but it is such a relief not to have to do it any longer ,not sure how long it will continue but so far so good.and he is enjoying it.

53 years of cooking is starting to become a bit of a drag ! Just recently my husband has started to cook the odd meal, and it is a real treat for me, and he is getting to become very good at it ! I have also started to buy the odd ready meal, but why do I feel guilty about it ?

rowanflower0 Wed 24-Mar-21 11:26:16

since the stroke, I only have full use of one hand, so he peels veg, chops onions etc. but I am the better cook.

Moggycuddler Wed 24-Mar-21 11:22:38

I do, without exception. Neither DH nor daughter who lives with us can cook. The only time they go near the cooker is if I'm actually so ill in bed that I can't do it at all. Then between them they produce beans on toast (usually not hot enough) and act as if they've prepared a Cordon Bleu meal, bless their hearts. smile

My husband does all the cooking in our house. He's a much better cook than me and actually enjoys the cooking process. He does a fabulous Sunday roast and takes the trouble to time things and watch over what's cooking. He's also recently started baking cakes and bread as well, and watches cookery progammes. He plans all our meals each week and simply tells me what to buy.

I HATE cooking and have absolutely no interest in it. I just shove food in the oven and go off to do something more interesting and only remember it when I smell burning! I occasionally cook shepherds pie or fish pie and slow cook casseroles, but I still resent the time spent preparing the ingredients. Left on my own I'd probably live on raw foods and sandwiches!!

We share it quite amicably. My husband retired before me, and went on a cookery course - he likes to do things properly. At first I was coming home to elaborate 3 course meals every day, then I gently broke it to him that I didn't really want this every day! He was actually very good at it. Now we're both retired, and sometimes I cook, sometimes he does, and sometimes it's a shared venture. We both enjoy it.

cornishpatsy Wed 24-Mar-21 11:20:32

I do not accept that people cannot cook at all. If you can read you can cook, follow a recipe or the instructions on food packaging.

Alioop Wed 24-Mar-21 11:16:55

On my own, so everything. I miss my meals out cos its the only time someone else makes my dinner.

4allweknow Wed 24-Mar-21 11:16:18

Used to love cooking but now hate it. Every single day plus shopping is there another task that is so repetitive. Only a few days ago I mentioned the garden will need some attention and I was told it is such a chore having to do things like painting and gardening. I pointed out painting/decorating is done every few years and gardening is seasonal. Cooking meals is every day. I do but very rarely have a holiday and buy a ready meal. Rare event though.

greenlady102 Wed 24-Mar-21 11:12:53

I do it all because the dog and the tortoises can't cook

CarlyD7 Wed 24-Mar-21 11:06:24

Since he retired, my OH does the cooking 5 days out of 7 (and I do the other 2). he's a good cook, although tends to forget to taste things as he goes along, and makes a bit of a mess, but he enjoys being in the kitchen with Radio 5 Live on (mainly for the sport) and a glass of something. I used to then have to face all the washing up but a dishwasher sorted that out - hurray.

maturefloosy Wed 24-Mar-21 11:05:55

I prefer to do all the cooking - OH tries sometimes as he feels he should help but I like cooking and although it is a bit tedious now after such a long lockdown we do have the occasional takeaway to break it up. He does all the washing up and each week 'does' all the floors in the house and all his own washing and ironing so I consider myself very lucky.! grin

CBBL Wed 24-Mar-21 11:00:45

I do it all, unless it's toast, crumpets or bagels.
My husband has shaky hands, and a spinal nerve injury, which means he is wobbly on his feet. He should use a cane indoors, but won't!
I'm not a particularly good cook (lack of interest and a "picky eater), but do my best. OH never complains, and insists every meal is delicious, even when I haven't enjoyed it at all!
I wish I did enjoy cooking, and can't wait to find a lovely place to eat when restrictions are over. We have moved to the north of Scotland this year, and so have left behind our regular and much missed dining venue (run by our friends).
