Who does it in your house? I do most of ours partly because I am better at it. (Talk about a poisoned challis). I also do the food shopping. other half is retired and I work 21 hours. He has to be quite closely supervised when he does cook.

If you do it, do you mind?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Mar-21 17:26:16

I do it all.

Frankly I get bored stiff with it at times, so I’ve started buying ready prepared meals to break up the tedium.

I normally enjoy planning and preparing meals, but having no break is a nightmare

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 17:26:49

I do it every single day. Unless Himself makes a chilli. I’m fed up now. I want to eat out and let someone else chop, mash and make the gravy.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 17:27:34

I’m bringing my misery on this thread too WW ‼️
?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 23-Mar-21 17:28:04

I would have chilli every other day

I love cooking (and eating), but it is a real treat when my OH cooks, which he does once or twice a week. He does a very good risotto, mussels and Chinese dishes.

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 17:28:23

I’ve resigned myself to it because his meals are so awful. I can’t even call it cooking. It consists of putting a piece of microwaved meat and some microwaved vegetables on a plate.
The vegetables don’t necessarily match, beetroot, carrot, celeriac, mushrooms all in a heap.

The last straw was the orange meal. Fish in breadcrumbs (microwaved), baked beans and sweet potato chunks. Picture it?

I do it all, unless it's scrambled eggs and smoked salmon then I get treated. There are compensations, he does all the clearing up afterwards, although I do try and wash as I go to a certain extent, he pretty much does all the pan washing, loading and unloading the dishwasher, it evens itself out imo.

My husband is a far better cook than me. He makes wonderful curries (I wouldn't know how to make a curry). He does stir fries, steaks, kebabs, rice puddings, bakes bread, all sorts of stuff really. I am better at 'every day' cooking - roasts etc and things that go ping in the microwave! It depends what we're having as to who cooks. One cooks, the other clears up.

Callistemon Tue 23-Mar-21 17:35:32

I do most of it but DH does cook once or twice a week now although he never used to.

I can't wait to buy some good ready meals again - and a trip to the pub.

Marginally better than chicken in a white wine sauce with boiled potatoes and cauliflower. ?

Although he microwaved fish in breadcrumbs? shock

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 17:39:36

Oh what a great idea WW! ?

Casdon Tue 23-Mar-21 17:40:38

I hate cooking, but I taught both my children to cook from a young age, and thankfully they both love it and are better cooks than me.

My son lives with me (back home after university), so he mainly does it now, and very nice it is too, I know I’m lucky. I do batch cook for the freezer though, for those nights when neither of us want to make too much effort.

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 17:40:39

?

He’d never had fish in breadcrumbs before. It was what the farm shop delivered ?

Pantglas2 Tue 23-Mar-21 17:41:04

I do most of it and really enjoy it although I do like to eat out occasionally. DH can cook most things and will if I fancy a day off.

Callistemon Tue 23-Mar-21 17:43:02

I don't feel like making an effort tonight but it's my turn (again)

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 17:48:03

I made a cottage pie mid morning. I think I’ll shove it in the oven now. And try to forget I made it earlier. Actually I’m going to pour a glass of red wine while i wait for it. I know... It’s only Tuesday but tonight needs must.

Jaxjacky Tue 23-Mar-21 17:48:12

I do mostly, DH can cook sausages, mash, beans and a cooked breakfast. But he loads the dishwasher and washes up pans as well as all the ironing and other housework.
I don’t normally mind, but it’s now very tedious, repetitive and boring.

Sago Tue 23-Mar-21 17:48:39

I do all of it happily!
Not much else to do!
I started with sourdough bread this morning, it had been proving overnight then a guacamole to go on sourdough toast.
Just sorted this evenings supper....lasagne.
I prefer it at weekends when I allow myself alcohol.

NanKate Tue 23-Mar-21 17:50:44

If I never cooked again it would be too soon ? DH does help as he knows my feelings. He calls himself my ‘sou chef’ as he does all the chopping and sorting. When he goes away for a few days I live on toasted cheese sandwiches, poached eggs and plenty of fruit.

I was like this nearly 50 years ago when we married, so nothing’s changed.

Do you fancy a meal out with me Urm and Casdon, plus a large glass of wine ?

Jane43 Tue 23-Mar-21 17:53:11

Sometimes we have different meals so we each do our own, this is because I like salad at least three times a week and DH doesn’t like salad, if I’m not having salad we cook a meal together. On Sundays DH cooks the meal which is usually roast chicken or lamb and occasionally gammon. I do the dessert. We both like cooking albeit nothing fancy, I would hate to have the responsibility of planning and cooking every meal though.

ginny Tue 23-Mar-21 17:55:45

I do 99 % if the cooking., which for the most part I enjoy. DH will peel and prep veg if I leave what we are having on the worktop.

We have come to an agreement that if I do the cooking , he makes all teas, coffee and other drinks wether we are on our own or have visit lp rs.

varian Tue 23-Mar-21 17:57:45

I cook, and after about 50 years of me cooking, mu OH started to do the washing up.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 17:59:10

Ooh yes please NanKate! Now, where did I put my make up? I’m sure I had some. Casdon are you wearing heels tonight? Shall we try that new place?

MerylStreep Tue 23-Mar-21 17:59:14

I feel a bit guilty ( not really ?) as my OH took over the cooking and shopping about 20 years ago.
He likes doing it, I don’t. It works for us.
And, I never know what I’m getting until I see it or smell it.
It’s not all good though because thanks to a nasty little virus I picked up in Dec 2019 I can’t taste most of it ?
