Meal preparation

I love cooking! But, I often batch cook so always have something in for nights when I don't want to be bothered. And, we have some nice ready meals in. We also have occasional takeaways.

Hate cooking, never do it. My husband cooks and shops and I do all the cleaning, laundry etc. Suits us both.

He prepares all the veg but I do everything else including cooking, loading the dishwasher, anything that needs handwashing, and wiping down surfaces.
Occasionally he will cook a fish dinner, white fish, creamed potatoes, cauliflower.
He has trouble co-ordinating everything to be ready at the same time.

DH does Sunday dinner as he really likes it. Now we are on our own, he knows I wouldn’t always bother doing one.

I cook the rest of the week. Don’t mind really, I decide what we’re having.

Yesterday we had home made mushroom soup, from the freezer, and a plum crumble with vanilla sauce.
Today it was sausages, boiled potatoes, carrots, leeks, Brussels sprouts, gravy, then Greek yogurt.

That would be fabulous, thanks for the invite NanKate, I’ve got my heels on and ready to go immediately, don’t care where just not sushi please!

Mr. B does most of it, I love cooking but have injured myself quite badly a few times thanks to visual and other impairments. So he doesn’t really trust me now ? I’m more than capable of feeding myself if he’s not around and I’m the slow cooking queen.

Since my pacemaker op. he does it all because we have an induction hob. Apparently, I can use it if I stand two feet away but I think that would be hard.

Tonight I am cooking Salmon, with new potatoes, green beans, carrots and parsely sauce.
We had that but with sprouting broccoli from the garden.

Sometimes I think I need more inspiration but get to about 5.30pm and throw something together! We both enjoyed it, though.

Like MerylStreep, DH does most of the cooking now. He started to do more when he retired before me. Since my pacemaker op. he does it all because we have an induction hob. Apparently, I can use it if I stand two feet away but I think that would be hard. I can still do oven bits though like cakes and biscuits.

I cook Sunday to Thursday, OH cooks Friday and Saturday (unless we go out for a meal). That isnt happening now of course. Friday it's usually Beer battered fish and chips, and Saturday a curry or Steak.

Sometimes, he cooks Spag Bol or chilli for the freezer when he is in the mood!

So looking forward to going out for a meal, I think the last time was early October, when away in the caravan.

Me - and although we didn't go out very often even before the virus, I can't wait to be able to eat a meal I've not prepared and cooked myself!

I actually enjoy cooking even though OH will happily cook if I asked him to. He does, however, make the bread and bake cakes. He also does the washing, sorts the dishwasher, cleans the windows and is happy to anything else round the house. One of the reasons I like to cook is it means we always eat stuff I like, not that I'm fussy. I am missing having the odd meal out though!

I do it, always have. Do not particularly enjoy cooking but enjoy food so I am always exploring new recipes, new tastes new food, and like eating from the collection of recipes I have collected over the years.

I also like meals out and really miss them. There will be a lot to catch up on when the bariers finally come down.

I'm a batch cooker. Today was nut and veggie burger, romanesco and broccoli in cheese sauce and savoy cabbage braised in butter. It took about five minutes to "cook" and was delicious. I had no idea what I was having until I went to the freezer.

Bet it had really stacked up by then varian. Did he not think ‘little and often’ might have been easier?

To be fair my OH does all the hoovering. I would rather cook than hoover.

I feel a bit guilty ( not really ?) as my OH took over the cooking and shopping about 20 years ago.
He likes doing it, I don’t. It works for us.
And, I never know what I’m getting until I see it or smell it.
It’s not all good though because thanks to a nasty little virus I picked up in Dec 2019 I can’t taste most of it ?

Ooh yes please NanKate! Now, where did I put my make up? I’m sure I had some. Casdon are you wearing heels tonight? Shall we try that new place?

I cook, and after about 50 years of me cooking, mu OH started to do the washing up.

I do 99 % if the cooking., which for the most part I enjoy. DH will peel and prep veg if I leave what we are having on the worktop.

We have come to an agreement that if I do the cooking , he makes all teas, coffee and other drinks wether we are on our own or have visit lp rs.

Sometimes we have different meals so we each do our own, this is because I like salad at least three times a week and DH doesn’t like salad, if I’m not having salad we cook a meal together. On Sundays DH cooks the meal which is usually roast chicken or lamb and occasionally gammon. I do the dessert. We both like cooking albeit nothing fancy, I would hate to have the responsibility of planning and cooking every meal though.

If I never cooked again it would be too soon ? DH does help as he knows my feelings. He calls himself my ‘sou chef’ as he does all the chopping and sorting. When he goes away for a few days I live on toasted cheese sandwiches, poached eggs and plenty of fruit.

I was like this nearly 50 years ago when we married, so nothing’s changed.

Not much else to do!
I started with sourdough bread this morning, it had been proving overnight then a guacamole to go on sourdough toast.
Just sorted this evenings supper....lasagne.
I prefer it at weekends when I allow myself alcohol.

I do mostly, DH can cook sausages, mash, beans and a cooked breakfast. But he loads the dishwasher and washes up pans as well as all the ironing and other housework.
I don’t normally mind, but it’s now very tedious, repetitive and boring.

I made a cottage pie mid morning. I think I’ll shove it in the oven now. And try to forget I made it earlier. Actually I’m going to pour a glass of red wine while i wait for it. I know... It’s only Tuesday but tonight needs must.
