Smug Tindalls

I am so happy that the Queen has had some exciting family news - she has so much to contend with at present. BUT is anyone else getting a trifle fed up of Mike Tindall grinning at the camera as he tells us how well they are dealing with their children in lockdown and how he delivered Tindall No. 3 on the bathroom floor! Not everyone has his fortunate circumstances and it must be galling for people who are really struggling. His smugness seems to know no bounds!

Doodledog Thu 25-Mar-21 12:45:12

Should the only people allowed to comment on anything be those in 'less fortunate circumstances' who are 'really struggling'?

I am not a Royal watcher at all, but am as pleased for the couple as I am when I see similar tales about 'ordinary' people on the local news. They usually look happy about the safe arrival of their babies too - does that make them smug?

Marmight Thu 25-Mar-21 12:41:21

Not at all smug. Just an elated Dad happy to share their good news. As a family associated as closely with the Royals as they are, they are as normal as they can be. Great news and I’m happy for them whatever size their bathroom, house or bank balance. I’ll be kind and imagine OP must be having a bad day?

Probably being a grouch hmm Maybe he won't like rugby at all, could take after his mum and be into horses, or maybe he won't take after either of them and be his own person and break the mould and become say a ballet dancer smile

cornishpatsy Thu 25-Mar-21 12:33:27

I did not see him as smug. I think smugness is subjective, I find that couple from the chateaux smug but know many people absolutely love them.

Not sure about the smug thing, but I think I heard him mention a preference for a boy and Peter Crouch like him uttered something really stupid when his first son was born, whether he was tongue in cheek or not, it was along the lines, "finally I've got an heir" Comments such as these piss me off no end, so what are the two girl children thenshock On the other hand I think I read Victoria Beckham say something equally fatuous when Harper arrived "at last I have someone to leave my handbag collection to" hmm

Anyway aside from that all the best to them both.

I am sure he is just happy to have someone he will be able to teach rugby to! I am equally sure he dotes on his daughters - I pity any boy who tries to mistreat them when they are older!

Actually, I haven't seen him on tv yet, perhaps because we don't have the news on on a loop in this house.
I must watch out for the happy father

There is an off switch, Ngaio1

Callistemon Thu 25-Mar-21 12:25:14

He's excited and proud of himself - rightly so!

"finally I've got an heir" Comments such as these piss me off no end Perhaps that was a joke - it's a joke in our family anyway!

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 25-Mar-21 12:23:33

That’s a bit harsh! He’s a new dad with a longed for son after two delightful daughters. No he is not smug, as you so carefully put it. He is a happy father!

TerriBull Thu 25-Mar-21 12:22:11

I’m no royal family addict but this OP is ridiculous. He’s a well known rugby player apart from anything else !
You might as well say anyone with money shouldn’t appear on tv and talk about their newborn.

Elegran Thu 25-Mar-21 12:11:29

Anyone resentful about that easy and happy birth should remember the unhappiness of Zara's previous late miscarriage and reflect on how good and bad is distributed randomly, and taking no account of wealth or position.

3nanny6 Thu 25-Mar-21 12:11:24

I really like Zara and although I am not a great follower of the Royal family I thought she was such a breath of fresh air. She always looks happy with her husband Mike and congratulations on their new arrival.

Ngaiol he is not smug just a happy dad with a new born, sorry is it no longer allowed for anyone to express some happiness when they have had the blessing of a healthy baby born when times have been so difficult.

In regard of him delivering the baby on the bathroom floor I say well done to him and know the feeling, I delivered GD2 in Ds bedroom when she had been sent home from labour ward as she was told she was not dilated enough. The Dad sat on the sofa holding a bucket in front of him saying he felt sick. The answer to anyone is no I am not a midwife
but when needs arise you just get on with it.

BlueSky Thu 25-Mar-21 12:04:54

Not smug I like Zara and Anne, a breath of fresh air indeed and Zara, even if not officially, she’s as royal as the rest of them! But I can see people who aren’t as privileged, and perhaps didn’t have such happy and easy births, feeling resentful.

Blossoming Thu 25-Mar-21 12:04:11

I think it’s lovely when a family are happy about a new addition. It’s not smug, anybody in his position wouldn’t be able to stop grinning all over their face. It’s called ‘joy’.

grandmajet Thu 25-Mar-21 12:01:24

I agree, it’s nice to see someone happy with their life at the moment.

Rosalyn69 Thu 25-Mar-21 12:00:55

I like them. I like Eugenie and Jack too. So happy to be parents. What a refreshing change from the moaning Sussexes.

Anniebach Thu 25-Mar-21 11:59:58

A man is excited about the birth of his son, that’s being smug ?
good grief

Puzzler61 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:54:50

I think it’s lovely to see excited new fathers - whoever they may be. He would probably like to be going down to the pub with his mates “to wet the baby’s head” but that’s not possible under our restrictions presently ? ? ? ?

Jane43 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:42:54

They seem a lovely couple to me. Zara seems to have a lot of her mother's qualities, down to earth and no pretensions. If I was a bitter old bint I might say that the announcement coincided with Harry’s announcement that he has another job, which he has been doing for two months apparently. Perhaps it’s a coincidence.

Pantglas2 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:42:36

EllanVannin

Isn't there anyone who's as easily pleased as myself ?

I am EllanVannin ?‍♀️! Cos I’m having crumpets tomorrow (carbs day) and I always think of you when the butter drips down my chin.....easily pleased? Yup!

JaneJudge Thu 25-Mar-21 11:42:31

I saw him announcing the babies arrival on the news and he just looked really happy. She had a very late miscarriage and I imagine that makes a safe arrival of a baby a relief too smile

Mapleleaf Thu 25-Mar-21 11:41:41

Oh dear, is this another attempt at royal family bashing/wealthier than most of us envy? (However distant they are in the pecking order, the fact that Zara is the Queens Granddaughter makes them part of her family).

No, I don't think he looked smug, just happy.

Elegran Thu 25-Mar-21 11:40:41

My granddaughter was delivered on the bathroom floor, by his father. Her mother thought she would just pop in for a quick wee before setting off for the maternity ward . . . The medics arrived just after the baby.

Her brother's arrival a few years before had been long, difficult and fraught with complications, so everyone was full of euphoria about this birth. Good for Mike Tindall for coping so well.

Ellan Vannin There is only one post that could be said to be froma biter old bint. The rest are pleased for this unpretentious family.

Chewbacca Thu 25-Mar-21 11:37:56

Nasty, negative, spiteful, curmudgeonly, mean spirited, insular, petty minded, bitter, shrewish. All adjectives that apply to this mealy mouthed opening post. OP needs to get out more.

lemsip Thu 25-Mar-21 11:35:56

Ngaio1 what a nasty thing to post
