Smug Tindalls

I am so happy that the Queen has had some exciting family news - she has so much to contend with at present. BUT is anyone else getting a trifle fed up of Mike Tindall grinning at the camera as he tells us how well they are dealing with their children in lockdown and how he delivered Tindall No. 3 on the bathroom floor! Not everyone has his fortunate circumstances and it must be galling for people who are really struggling. His smugness seems to know no bounds!

I don't think he is smug. I think it's great to have such a down-to-earth ordinary nice person in the RF.
And congratulations to them on the birth of their son.

Peasblossom Thu 25-Mar-21 10:46:57

Nope, didn’t think he was smug. Just a proud, happy dad who wanted to tell everyone.

No pretensions there.

(Not going to make comparisons ?)

Grannygingey Thu 25-Mar-21 10:47:20

I think this is a bit harsh. He is a young(ish) man who is thoroughly enjoying his family and life after rugby. He is a refreshing antidote to other grandchildren-in-law of Her Maj!

Barmeyoldbat Thu 25-Mar-21 10:49:46

I think you are being completely unreasonable with your comment. Why shouldn't Mike Tindal smile at the camera when talking about his children, he is obviously proud of them and rightly so. He and Zara both have a healthy attitude on raising children and I for one wish the family well.

They appear to be an 'ordinary' young couple with a young family who don't seem to go out of their way to attract news, unlike another couple I can think of. OK they have good fortune on their side, but should we blame them for that?

eazybee Thu 25-Mar-21 10:53:22

Cannot see anything smug about them at all.
Just natural excitement at a new birth.

M0nica Thu 25-Mar-21 10:54:26

Just a happy family absolutely over the moon with with their new arrival and his unconventional arrival.

We have a oneupmanship thread. Should there be a onedownmnship thread, there seems to be more of that about.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Mar-21 10:56:36

Totally disagree. I think he’s a breath of fresh air within ‘The Firm’.

Beckett Thu 25-Mar-21 10:56:48

I am very happy for them and trust mother and baby are healthy. I did notice they have posted a picture just showing the baby's eyes - will they now receive the same lambasting another couple did for only showing their baby's feet?

oodles Thu 25-Mar-21 10:59:19

no, not smug, who are we to know what life has been like for them in lockdown, I'm sure they had the same as everyone else, no dad going into the scan with Zara, there will be the same lack of support for the new mum as everyone else, and who can help where their baby arrives,I know peoplewho've had similar and it is just what happened, parents want to tell people what happened, they just happen to be famous people and if they'd have said no won't tallk to you etc they would have had criticism just as they are now

Jaxjacky Thu 25-Mar-21 10:59:53

Nope, don’t think they’re smug at all, just cheerful and happy on their new addition.

dogsmother Thu 25-Mar-21 11:01:50

No real opinion, but certainly not smug.

timetogo2016 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:04:12

I agree with all of the above.
It`s wonderful news.

suziewoozie Thu 25-Mar-21 11:05:30

Totally disagree. I think he’s a breath of fresh air within ‘The Firm’.

Tut tut tut I thought it had been established that they are not ‘royal’ so can they be within ‘The Firm’? ?

Casdon Thu 25-Mar-21 11:07:01

M0nica I think your idea about the onedownmanship thread is a very good idea, there are some real grumps on Gransnet this morning, think a lot of people got out of bed the wrong side today.

Maybe if they out-do each other with how rubbish everything and everybody else is and how hard done by they feel, they will feel better.

lavenderzen Thu 25-Mar-21 11:07:01

No.

Oldwoman70 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:07:52

No not smug - just a proud father announcing the arrival of a baby. I think he is very down to earth - I bet the Queen enjoys his sense of humour!

poshpaws Thu 25-Mar-21 11:08:22

I couldn't care less about the Royal Family as an institution, but I think you're being very unfair to the Tindalls. The man is simply a great father who's very excited about the birth of his son and wanting to share his joy with the world. It's not his or his wife's doing that they are part of the RF, and they are wealthier than most in part because of his rugby success. There will always be people wealthier than others - do you want them to self-flagellate and wear hair shirts because they happen to have lucked out in life's lottery?

EllanVannin Thu 25-Mar-21 11:09:12

I honestly think that he's exited that it's a boy. Smugness doesn't come into it, he's obviously overjoyed as any man would be already having two girls. I'm so pleased for them.

EllanVannin Thu 25-Mar-21 11:09:36

* excited*

EllanVannin Thu 25-Mar-21 11:10:40

Gawd, there's some bitter old bints on here !

EllanVannin Thu 25-Mar-21 11:12:41

Isn't there anyone who's as easily pleased as myself ?

Gannygangan Thu 25-Mar-21 11:12:53

What a strange comment!

Where was the smugness?

Delivering a baby on a bathroom floor is not what most of us go through, (fortunately). It doesn't matter how luxurious his bathroom was. It will have been an event to mention

I found him to be very refreshing the way he commented with glee about his new baby.

Most of us will have experienced childbirth and it is such a relief when a child is born safely and there's genuine excitement from most parents.

Gawd, there's some bitter old bints on here !

I think that the replies to the OP show that there are far more people who are pleased for a pleasant young couple (and gosh, what an exciting story, delivering your own son on the bathroom floor!) than there are grumps.

I think it's great, too grin
