Tesco's have been fantastic here since the start of the pandemic. I've told them so.
I too have written to them and thanked them.
Tesco did really well for me. They put me on the list for priority bookings even though I was not on the government's special list. Fortunately my issues are relatively minor, and I can do most things myself on a day by day basis, but from time to time there are things that I cannot do now, nothing to do with pandemic issues, for which I need to have help.
Everybody went down to one delivery per week and there was rationing. I eat a lot of rice and I normally have two types, but in summer 2020 I was needing a few of five different types. Shopping took a long time to get in, bags on the doorsteps, and down on the path, but I survived and did not need to call on the local support group that sprang up and was helping people, and I thanked them too for having been there if I had needed them when things looked very precarious with lots of unavailable items available and no substitutes for them too.
Yet when I got that circulated emsail with the following, I was alarmed.
> If your order is being delivered, we recommend having your own bags ready to pack into. If you’ve not got these at the door, don’t worry – there’s always time to grab them. If you’re vulnerable, disabled or elderly, your driver can still bring your shopping inside, but they won’t be able to enter your home if you’re currently self‐isolating.
I have never had them deliver into the house and I don't want them to do so in the pandemic and anyway there is nowhere to put the trays.
Yet that paragraph seems to me to be presuming that I am going to open the door and unload from trays while the driver is here. That is not going to happen.
Now this might all work out fine, if I put boxes on the doorstep and the delivery driver puts the grocery into the boxes.
That would seem more efficient because the "is not going to happen" scenario would need the driver to provide the placing of the trays one by one as the customer empties them and so the driver placing the grocery in the boxes would be quicker.
I feel that Tesco senior management implying that they are deciding and requiring that I open the door while the driver is here while a pandemic is still happening so that I get a delivery is way out of order.
