Would you watch it if it was broadcast on a different day, say the anniversary of her coronation?

There’s the Christmas message broadcast on Christmas Day.

There’s the Queen's Speech broadcast on the State Opening of Parliament.

We always watch it, as part of our Christmas tradition. I can't see what would be gained by changing the date. It is on at 3pm and again later in the day. We usually record it at 3 and watch when it is convenient if we are busy cooking or eating.

I dont think it's to do with the timing, I think that's the level of interest within the population. I imagine you would get less people if it was broadcast on another day. Many people are in front of their TV on xmas day.

Notinthemanual Sat 24-Apr-21 08:49:30

Probably, but if only 8 million people watch it, meaning 60 million don't, perhaps he will choose a day that will be more inclusive. Many people of different faiths embrace the festive consumerist side of Christmas, but a lot do not.

Do you think Charles will carry on doing a Christmas speech when he is King?

nanna8 Sat 24-Apr-21 04:19:54

Wrong time of day for us but I think some expats do watch it.

Grany I really admire how you keep going to get the truth out there. It must be exhausting.

I did give Grany 10 out of 10 for persistence a while ago.

AGAA4 Fri 23-Apr-21 16:24:25

Usually away at Christmas and don't watch it as I will be doing something else but pick up the gist of it on the news.

jacqrose Fri 23-Apr-21 16:13:33

Chestnut not sarcastic at all, a genuine compliment to Grany. I hope your comment hasn't spoilt it for her.

That comes across as a really sarcastic comment, but I think it's supposed to be genuine admiration. ???

I dont listen and none of my family do but I think quite a few people would object if it was moved.

Our HoS only speaks to her subjects once a year and its scripted, that's all we ever hear. A president takes a leading role at times of national celebration, uncertainty or tragedy

Queen did speak out about the covid crisis but that was several months after the outbreak of pandemic.

JaneJudge Fri 23-Apr-21 12:12:05

I know Covid restrictions have made every day seem the same but it's APRIL

Blossoming Fri 23-Apr-21 12:06:04

No, no TV in this house anyway.

Aveline Fri 23-Apr-21 11:38:43

I always like to watch the Queen's speech at Christmas. Her broadcast to the nation near the start of the pandemic was absolutely wonderful. It was spot on and I know many people were glad of it.

eazybee Fri 23-Apr-21 11:10:12

Always watch it, it is a tradition, and much to my surprise, my adult children do too.

Callistemon Fri 23-Apr-21 11:04:01

Over 8 million people did watch it, few of them on GN it seems

?

ginny Fri 23-Apr-21 10:47:50

No, wouldn’t make any difference. . I never watch it anyway.

maddyone Fri 23-Apr-21 10:42:45

I don’t usually watch it these days, although I might see a snippet on the news in the evening.

EllanVannin Fri 23-Apr-21 10:25:05

I'm usually too busy in the kitchen making sure that nothing burns or boils over grin
