House prices

Here in the NW house prices are rising almost daily and house owners are getting offers within days of the house going on the market.
A friend told me yesterday it is to do with a stamp duty holiday which is due to end soon.
Their solicitors have told them many will be disappointed as the volume of work for them is huge and they will struggle to complete in time.

I live in a nice area but not particularly “desirable” and can’t believe the prices being asked.
One semi, five minutes walk away is being marketed at just under half a million.
It is 1920’s and reasonably large but it is still a semi and only has one loo, upstairs, a definite Nono for most families.

Are others around the country noticing the same hike in prices or is it confined to my area?

Same here in the Southwest, it’s quite scary. My son has been looking to buy a property for a year now but just recently the prices have really rocketed and it seems the estate agents can’t keep up with demand at the moment. Hopefully it is a bubble and the bubble will burst and prices will go back to a more reasonable level....

Same here Ann although prices are always high here anyway
(Oxfordshire) houses are selling like there’s no tomorrow.
Thousands upon thousands of new homes have been added to so many villages and are all selling well, despite the high prices.Am guessing it’s people moving out of London.

I am in Essex close to coast, countryside and 35 minutes (fast train) from the City, house prices are rising quickly. (£275,000 average for a 3 bed flat)

Rents are also extortionate.

Oops sorry that should be 2 bed flat!!

3 bed flats are well over £300,000

It is the same in Australia. We bought in late December just five days after the house went on the market. We settled mid Feb and now just over 2 months later the the price has increased by about $100,000.
Prices in Melbourne have increased by about 10% this year.

I think the next few generations are going to be renters rather than owners, at least until parents die and leave them what we would have thought of as a small fortune when the parents house is sold.

In the South the prices have long been sky-high meaning our younger generations are denied entry to the housing market. The high prices of housing leads to high rents so they are paying through the nose for that which means little money to save. We could get another £150 per property month on our rental properties but always keep our rent at Housing Benefit levels. If you charge any higher and your tenants end up on HB, you are taking the food money out of their budget. That is just a terrible thought to live with.

They've been rising steadily in part of Cornwall for years but two years ago the rise has been more so. Apparently, property here is seen as a good investment compared with other types of investments and its not expected to change.

There are some areas of Cornwall where prices have dropped.

Prices are still rising in London as well.

Yes stamp duty and working from home is pushing the market.
I read that London is slowing down so much now, so I suppose that is adding to pushing up prices in some areas.

Same here - South Coast area. Inundated with flyers from agents asking if we are selling in the near future.
We are building our "final home " in Cornwall at present, once planning was approved a flood of enquiries wishing to buy at ridiculous amounts to my mind.

Prices always high here, south Hampshire, three bed semi from £320,000 and they’re building new houses wherever they can.

I have heard that houses are bring sold in Inverness sight unseen . It is in the posh part of the town but still a worry for locals.
