Toys We Still Have From Long Ago.

What a touching story Maywalk, you must be so glad it survived. My toys only exist in my memory - particularly a tiny plastic bear, a large dolls house that ended up on the fire on Bonfire Night, and a small baby doll, new for me, that went backwards and forward to each new baby in the family, including mine, for many years. I do still have The Complete Works of Shakespeare from age 11 - very practical - and a very special baby doll with long hair (mine never had hair as a child) which I bought many years ago in the early days of my marriage to comfort me through a sad time. She is waiting to be given to my oldest DGD.

What an amazing story Maywalk. Your teaset is beautiful. I’m so glad it’s treasured by your dil. I have a little doll - Rosebud-from my childhood. My Mum made a set of clothes for her which she still wears. She is in my cabinet and a lovely reminder of my Mum and my childhood. ?

I have my teaset which is from the 1950s. I also have my Pedigree walking doll from the 50s, complete with coat made by mother with offcuts from the coat she made for me.

A couple of teddy bears, one from when I was 4 bought by my parents and another which my eldest of my elder brothers brought from Germany when I was 8. Both show the signs of age and love! (I'm over 60 now and they take pride of place in my bedroom). I also have a toy donkey which I've had from about 9 years old which my middle elder brother (long deceased) gave me. I treasure them all.

Maywalk that’s a poignant tale. Thank you for sharing it. That teaset is beyond priceless in memories what a generous by your brother. I bet he never realised when he was saving up for it just how much it would become to mean to you over the years. Also, it’s lovely your daughter in law values it as highly as you.

Beautiful tea set maywalk. I have a teddy bought by my grandad the day I was born. A doll, about 8 years younger. Two Pelham puppets that I can’t recall not being part of my life, no idea when and how they arrived. Some books and two Bibles I was given when I was five. All greatly cherished.

I think that’s it, I took them all with me when I left home, Mum never kept anything, so I was sure she would throw them away.

That is lovely. My mother was an inveterate thrower outer, so I have only memories of my toys?

I still have most of my dolls and my teddy.

I renovated my dolls pram for my granddaughter. My mum had renovated it for me when I was little. It originally belonged to my aunt who was probably given it just prior to the First World War.

My poor old teddy is now over 80. My aunt gave him to me when I was born, He is a rather bare bear nowadays, but can still sit in a corner of my dresser owning the place as he shoule.
