I’ve never wiped the shopping! What do you wipe it with? What about fresh veg, bread, etc.?

monk08 Mon 10-May-21 12:56:58

No more wiping for me now we've had both jabs.

Susan56 Mon 10-May-21 12:34:14

DH still wipes the shopping.Ithink he always will now!

B9exchange Mon 10-May-21 11:47:06

Morning all, after a grey start we have sun, but still cold. Bit worried about the girl I used to sponsor in Kenya, now out of the programme but we kept in touch. No response to texts for over a month now, and she used to text almost daily. Hope it is a problem with her phone rather than herself or family.

Wonderful video of the ponies, thank you so much Ash and OldUdders will pass that one on to GC

Had a lovely visit to DS, DDiL, little Olive and her brother. Freddie (2) wasn't over taken with his tractor jumper saying it didn't have a trailer, and refused to try it on, said he wanted a 'different present' and had to be bribed with a home made biscuit! Hope he takes to it later. DS now fretting that he has a spoilt son!

Hope those waiting for news have a good outcome, and sympathy for those with worries.

muse my pharmacy doesn't deliver to my area. My hospital prescriptions, however, are fortunately delivered by courier.

Nannagarra Mon 10-May-21 11:38:16

Good morning from the Sefton coast.
I’ve been on that train Ash. Thanks for the link which brought back very happy memories.
I’m another wiper of shopping and not yet ready to stop.
Thinking of those with leaking roofs, prescription problems, medical procedures and results and those luckily enjoying holidays.
Have the best day you can everyone. ???

Good morning from sunny West Sussex.

I am feeling guilty having been lying in bed vaguely listening to radio 4 when I have a long list of things I want to do. And I have an empty as it is DH’s volunteering day ?

My plan is to put a washing on. I need a line outside but have small garden and don’t like whirlies so I am envious of EV - wind-dried clothes smell so lovely. Then I must send out an email about next book group read. After that I will go to the allotment and continue where I left off weeding yesterday - it is easier now that some rain has softened our clay soil. DH does most of the seed sowing and planting but there are several empty areas that I could put either flowers or veg in. I am very indecisive ?

I will stop typing now and start doing. Onwards and upwards as our union rep at work always signed off his missives.

Good morning all, looks like sunny intervals today for Lancashire. I’m on the run today as have a couple of men here trimming the shrubs and tidying up in the front garden. I’ve just skimmed through your posts, will read properly later. Happy Monday ?

Hello Mick from a sunny (just) Cornwall.

Gardener, Mark, has arrived so we've chatted and gone over all the needs for the three raised beds. First one is tricky. It's on a slight slope and 6.5m long and I don't want the bed level. It will mean loosing some of sleeper height at one end. I need to keep the slope as it helps drain water down to the ditch which feeds into our stream. The other two beds are much easier.

Had a lovely afternoon with SiL yesterday. He had a quick shower when he arrived. Sweaty bike ride up and down the wood's cycle trail near us.

My sleep was bad again last night. Due to me finding ways to solve all my worries. Read my book for a while but it's meant only 4 hr sleep. I'm attempting to talk to MrM early evening re house build. `I shall talk and not get interrupted hopefully and MrM will listen hopefully and give me answers hopefully.

Grandmajean Like a few others, I don't wash/wipe down anymore. Thinking back to last year, I stopped as we came out of the first lockdown.

Good luck with your wash EV. I have the same planned. The basket is overflowing.

Pittcity I envy you with the carpenter and wardrobes. I"m at that stage with our new build but with all our delays, the carpenter has to rebook us - Fingers crossed. I'm still to hear back from him.

Marydoll. I'm surprised the pharmacy don't offer free delivery. I hope there's nothing missing.

Lovely news about Iris GranMattie

Hope there is no Monday mayhem but lots of Monday magic for you all.

Grandmajean Mon 10-May-21 10:32:09

Have just read Grandmajet and Gelisajams opinions now so it really is a "do what you are comfortable with" situation. Won't start a thread on "To wipe or not to wipe" - that might qualify as the dullest thread ever !{grin}

Grandmajean Mon 10-May-21 10:29:12

Pittcity am inclined to stop wiping now but OH goes mad with a bleachy cloth and I put away so need to sort him out. I unpacked some dishcloths a few days ago ( had had them for ages ) and they were covered in mould so had to throw them out. Suspect the manic wiping of the plastic packaging did that ! Purplepixie - agree difficult to know what to do for best but we have both had two vaccinations so dithering.

Good morning Mick and all from Cloudy Chambers northwest Lancashire coast.
Off to the big city today to meet a friend, will actually make an effort, wear some make up and wear a bra? I’m going to a shop I discovered which has lovely scarves printed with artists’ designs like Klimt and Monet. Hopefully they will have some left and will pick one up as a birthday present for my sister.
Vivid dreams last night, I had been chosen as a soloist for the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, but knew in my heart I wasn’t up to it. The fear was real!
After the Hoover packing up, I now have THREE, son fixed it, before that I had picked one up at charity shop and then I found my daughter’s Hoover in the garden room where she is storing it.
Church yesterday and a poor man with mental issues, bless him and a regular, SHOUTS all the responses, sits at the front and is all over the place. Even the priest lost his way...
Watched Pursuit of Love last night and after looking forward to it, thought it was dreadful.
Thoughts to harrigran dragonfly Cherry Marydoll and anyone with a worry.
Will enjoy reading through later.

Gelisajams Mon 10-May-21 10:04:32

Grandmajean We are still bleaching all our shopping and deliveries or leaving it in quarantine! We are thinking it’s time to stop but old habits are dying hard!

grandmajet Mon 10-May-21 10:04:12

We never wiped our shopping, just a good handwash after unpacking.

Dogsmakemesmile Mon 10-May-21 09:55:17

Morning everyone. Dull here but currently dry. Tackling paperwork this morning including minutes of a meeting. Yesterday watched too many episodes of Scandi thriller and gave myself a headache! Going cold turkey today. May make bread. I always do but haven't tackled it for the last few weeks. Lovely to hear of others' plans. Take care.x

Nannytopsy Mon 10-May-21 09:24:05

Good morning Mick and all his followers. The sun is trying to come out in Suffolk after a night of heavy rain.
We shall be tidying the garden after we babysat DS’s dogs yesterday. They do make a mess of the lawn. Next time they will be restricted to the patio - I get so cross when they break things off.
Yesterday it was some onions, a martagon lily and lots of wallflowers. ?
Pitt I can’t believe it’s two months since you moved! Where did that time go?
I hope the day is kind to everyone.

olddudders Mon 10-May-21 09:17:50

Good Morning from a damp France, where overnight rain has freshened things, and more!

So pleased that DW Ashcombe posted the pony vid and it has found favour here. Shetlands and similar small breeds often have a lot more personality than larger horses. Many years ago, the Beeb used to broadcast major horsey events like the Horse Of The Year Show. One of the spectacles was called double-scurry, where two ponies towing a cart race around an obstacle course against the clock. Regular winners were a pair of Shetlands called Pablo and Peanuts, driven by Christine Dick. We saw them once live at a horse show in Herne Hill, and in the paddock area Mrs Dick was fettling the cart, while the ponies were trying to bite her bum!

Sir Lewis came from behind to win yesterday, but only because of clever strategy by his team. Lo and behold, the Head of Race Strategy, who effectively won the race by making the right call for Lewis to pit again, is a lady called Rosie, who today starts Maternity Leave! Women seldom make news as racing drivers, but as engineers they have had some key roles, including Audi's many wins here at Le Mans.

I hope your week goes well, Covid continues to retreat on all sides, and you are able to enjoy a few more treats you have missed for so long.

Good morning. Dull in Cheshire but mild. That will do me fine. Shopping coming later so a lot of unpacking then wiping. Has anyone stopped the wiping down ? It is a chore but am reluctant to stop. Will read mails later.

We have always wiped down all the shopping and will continue to do so until it feels safe to us. It is entirely up to everyone else what they do.

Urmstongran Mon 10-May-21 09:13:00

Ditto for us Pittcity.

EkwaNimitee Mon 10-May-21 09:12:43

Good Morning, Mick and everyone. It looks like a day of sunshine and showers here in Carlisle. More of the former I hope as I want to plant up a couple of tubs later.
I took advantage of quieter roads yesterday to take the car on the fairly unknown route to a superstore's petrol station. The roads in and out of the city I know but travelling radially is more tricky. I'm learning them gradually. Having refuelled, I went in the store hoping to get English asparagus and got the last pack, I don't think they'd restocked from yesterday. Naturally, I had to wander round the rest of the vast place and buy more than I set out to. They have a great home department which was useful.
Today, it's into the city centre with a list of errands and hopefully to lose a sack of clothes I've weeded out. I was spoilt in my last home, plenty of storage so I filled it...with lots of clothes I don't often need to wear. I'm going to take a stricter line with myself from now on. I was embarrassed by the amount of boxes that got moved into my new abode.
I hope you progress with your worrying leaking roof QuaintIrene and the relevant people get a move on quickly.
And the best possible day to all.

hulahoop Mon 10-May-21 09:12:43

Good morning from West York's hope you soon get roof sortedquaintirene .I am meeting friend for a walk today Hope rain stays away .Have a good day everyone.

Pittcity Mon 10-May-21 09:12:00

Grandmajean, I don't know anyone who even started wiping shopping. Wash hands before and after handling is all the precautions I take. Life's too short xx

Stilllearning Mon 10-May-21 09:04:25

Morning from S Lanarkshire, bright and drying up.
Lovely video to start the day Ashcombe, thank you.
I feel for you QuantIrene, you must feel quite despairing, managing things on your own is hard.

Weekenders Elizabeth and baubles sound so upbeat and happy, reminds us of what life can be, hopefully before too long.
I had a great few days a couple of years ago with my eldest daughter and family at the hotel I think you’re at baubles and stunned them by joining in with the Segway activity which, I think, is now banned. It was a bit dangerous but I loved it!

I continue to wait for the garage dismantlers, fingers firmly crossed.

Wishing everyone a good day ??

Lins1066 Mon 10-May-21 08:53:50

Good morning Mick and all from a dry and brightish S Welsh coast.
Garden waste collection today, fortunately Mr Lins put fertiliser on the lawn on Friday before all the rain. Ironing to do this morning which I've been putting off.
We need to ring a plumber as our shower keeps going cold, full joy.
Hope Cherry is ok and some ? for all in need of them for whatever reason.
Hi to Maw and Rosie.
Stay safe everyone.
