Does anyone else hate the sound of lawnmowers?

I'm sitting out in thexgarden and the peace is disturbed by these awful whiney lawnmowers. As soon as someone stops, another one starts up.
Gone are the days when to hear an old fashioned roller type mower was a calming, summery sound. The lovely wee clip clip noise, I found quite soothing. Don't get me started on the petrol driven ones as those are even worse.
Am I alone in being annoyed at the sound or do others not notice?

I’m not annoyed Polomint, but then it’s been too darned cold and wet to sit out in the garden so far!
Petrol mowers I agree can be very noisy but most people seem to use electric mowers and it’s soon over.
I recognise that grass needs cutting when we can - and weekends are an obvious time for those who go out to work.
No, just something “up with which I have to put”.

polomint, every weekend (highday and holiday too) there's a depressingly predictable cacophony of machine noise.

Lawnmowers, strimmers, hedgetrimmers and powerwashers (next door use all of them) - drown out the gentle click clack of my push mower and snip snap of my shears - along with the bird song.

I sweep the paths and patio with my lightweight corn broom, while, it seems, a power sweeper is required equipment for others. It creates an impressive cloud of dust.

I despair, I really do!

The sound of the old fashioned lawn mower being pushed was quite restful but the modern hover thingies and strimmers are irritating. Good thing about electric mowers is that it doesn't take long.

Not really, because it goes with the lovely smell of newly cut grass.

I don't mind the sound of lawn mowers although we have decalared our lawn a 'no mow zone', where we walk in it is kept short naturally and I suggested to OH that we leave the rest to create a wild habitat for insects. OH didn't argue on that ?.
However, I find the sound of strimmers really annoying and the noise created by hedge trimmers sets my teeth on edge......I've seen too many casualties from hedge trimmer accidents ?

No Mow May at the moment. We're sticking to it. We have hedgehogs and numerous birds in our garden.

Might have to get the back garden done though . It's beginning to turn jungle like and we have all the family round at the end of the month so needs must and all that.

I do think it sad that so many front gardens seem to get paved over these days. Young couple moved in further down our road and they're in the process of lifting the block paving in order to turf which is good news.

I'm taking part in No Mow May...mainly for our bees but the birds are enjoying all the daisy and dandelion heads!

We're about 300m away from nearest neighbour but what annoys me is his use of chainsaw and all the hammering and banging. It really carries.

I used to love lying on my sun lounger hearing my neighbour the other side of our high hawthorn hedge mowing his lawn with his push-pull mower. The sound of summer for me.smile

I love the sound of lawn mowers, especially when they wake me up early in the morning or when it's really really hot outside. I always feel so lucky that it's not me out there doing the mowing. smile
