It’s late May- and it’s cold. I haven’t yet turned my heating off it’s still on the same settings as it was in January. Anyone going by the calendar?

Magrithea Sat 22-May-21 12:19:33

Off on Monday, back on yesterday!! And we're still using the electric blanket!

PaperMonster Sat 22-May-21 12:17:52

No central heating here. All the heaters have been off for weeks. The upstairs windows are open most of the time. If it’s especially cold we put a heater on in one room, and/or I chuck my Oodie on. I’m in NW England.

Still pop the heating on for a few hours in the evening but the logburner in the kitchen is going all day - I spend a lot of my time in there. It seems ridiculous having it going in May but its been SO cold!!

Purplepoppies Sat 22-May-21 12:08:04

It was dreich here yesterday, I had the heating on most of the day.
At night I prefer to be cool, summer duvet and window open. The joys of menopause..... ?

No choice as ran out of oil for the Rayburn at the start of the month, which is when I normally turn it off.
As there have been some really cold evenings have used a ceramic electric heater so the dogs don't get cold!! Just a throw over my knees if necessary but never any heat in the bedroom as I wouldn't be comfortable. Hopefully there will be summer offers on oil prices, then fill up again ready to light the Rayburn in September.

mine hasn't been properly off since last autumn. The tortoises woke up in february and are living in my spare room (BIG tortoises) as its too cold in the garden so i have to run it for them and the dog!

biglouis Sat 22-May-21 11:46:14

Mines on low today because I have arthritis and its bloody freezing!

Alioop Sat 22-May-21 11:45:10

I put mine on just before I have my shower, hate getting out of it when bathroom cold, I've never had to put the heating on in May. The poor dog got her summer groom start of the week and she has sat shivering all week.

GrandmaMia1 Sat 22-May-21 11:44:49

Mines been off since 1 April. I am not joking.

Yes ours is on, it’s a bit of a battle in this house I feel the heat and my husband feels the cold so I end up stripping off down to shorts and tee shirt in the evenings while he keeps fully dressed even with his jumper on. Yet when the summer arrives he is the first to wear just his shorts in the garden or around the house.

bongobil Sat 22-May-21 11:23:31

Yes on today, unusual for my heating still to be on in May but it has been cold last few days!

SingleGram Sat 22-May-21 11:21:19

I live in Canada and I leave the heat on in my apartment all year. If it gets cold I hear it click on if it is hot it doesn't turn on. It has only been warm here a few days here and there so far! Yesterday we were up to 19 degrees so it did not turn on. At the end of the year I get a bill that gives me the amount I spent on each month and it is always a lot less in the summer but it will click on if it dips below 20 which I leave it there all year on the thermostat. (electric heat)

Krispii Sat 22-May-21 11:20:31

Mine is set at 20C - if it's cold it comes on. Three periods a day, morning, noon and evening.
All year round.
In the good old days when we used to go on holiday, we would leave it set at 15C to avoid freezing.

LovelyLady Sat 22-May-21 11:14:05

Heating not been off. Some are proud they don’t have heating on. If you are cold. Isn’t that why we have heating. If you can afford to heat the house, keep the heating on. If you are poor, sadly turn it off. I don’t understand people boasting about no heating on, in my mind that’s poverty. I know some will say they don’t like the heating on, to my mind that’s institutionalised poverty.

It's blooming 6°c outside just now. My heating is on! I have the thermostat set at 18°. I would love to turn it off for the summer but I won't be cold!

Yammy Sat 22-May-21 11:09:04

Central heating morning, lunchtime and evening we gave in last night and put the log burner on it is so cold.
Aga has been on and off because we have no radiators in there. Whoever planned the house was not a woman we had to install plinth heaters and a cooker for summer, no room for a radiator and it's like cooking at the north pole.
If we get hot weather the Aga gets so hot you cannot cook on it. It's all just been for show.

micky987 Sat 22-May-21 11:07:57

Ours is on most of the time, unless it’s very warm weather. Also the Aga is on 24/7 and has been for the last 60 years apart from when it was changed from coal to oil then three years ago from oil to electricity so the house is always nice and toasty warm.

Aepgirl Sat 22-May-21 11:07:18

Still on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. However, some afternoons I turn it on as it’s cold and damp.

cupcake1 Sat 22-May-21 11:06:54

Definitely on here, it’s too bloody cold otherwise! ?

nipsmum Sat 22-May-21 11:06:29

I'm in N/E Scotland. Heating is set at 19 all year round. If its cold it comes on if its warm it doesn't. I'm not a martyr to the calendar. Weather on these islands is so unpredictable , and I have no intention of freezing to death. We waited half of my lifetime to have central heating, I don't need to be cold and will pay what's required for that.

Corkie91 Sat 22-May-21 11:05:32

If its cold the heating comes on. My sister wears a coat around the house rather than put the heating on and complains she's feeling ill

Shirls52000 Sat 22-May-21 11:05:04

Mines still on, usually switch it off end of April but I hate feeling cold plus need it on when babysitting as I don’t want my little grandson feeling cold when he’s having a nap, it feels more like October at the moment

Bijou Sat 22-May-21 11:01:31

My heating is still on. I have a small bungalow and storage heaters Economy 10 and it is warm day and night. At my age not being very active and with bad circulation I feel the cold. I have to get up in the night. I just don’t worry about the electricity bill.

TheMaggiejane1 Sat 22-May-21 10:59:16

It’s on the thermostat all year round. It’s set at 21, if it’s warm it won’t come on, but I hate being cold.

leeds22 Sat 22-May-21 10:58:55

Turned off the automatic settings when it was warm in April, now we just flick it on when cold, ie most of the time. Still got the winter duvet on.
