Have you still got the heating on?

Our CH system is controlled by the thermostat and clock only. During on hours it is set at 18.5C and during the off hours it will still come on if the temperture falls below 12C. That applies all year round.

We can advance the heating to on or off at any time, but we prefer to set and forget. During sub-zero days we light the stove.

YES!
Today is positively Autumnal ????

On when needed; usually about 7pm for an hour at the moment. If we’re cold, it goes on.

I have a digital thermostat which is brilliant. It's set a bit higher in the evening and off at night. It stays on all the time until I feel sure it's not actually coming on at all, then I switch it off altogether. At the moment it's still coming on but not very much.

Yes mine is on first thing in the morning till i have showered and dresssed. Turn it off if going out or busy in the house or garden. When i sit to watch ETTCountry at 3pm it goes on again most days for an hour, cant bear sitting down and feeling cold. If i keep door to the lounge shut the heat is retained until i go back in for the evening when a throw usually is enough, if not it goes back on. Its very wild and windy here at the mo with the odd shower now and again. Crazy weather!!!!!

Though the 22 degrees is what is measured at the underside of the heater. The thermometer on the upstairs landing typically reads 24, because hot air rises and that hot air is not controlling the heater.

Talking of heating .......can someone tell me why my thermostat turns up on its own......I turn it down to 12degrees before I go to bed ....and in the morning I find it’s turned to 23......a gremlin?

I don't know what system yours is, but electricity powered wall heater in the hall was set up by the installer, at my request, to always use Greenwich Mean Time (so that it aligns with economy seven in both winter and summer) and turn off at 23:55 GMT and reset to 22 degrees C at 12:30 am GMT.

So it warms up the house at the lower rate overnight and if I think it too warm in the day and use the control on the top to turn it down, perhaps to 20 or lower on a hot day, then it will automatically reset before the economy 7 rate starts. It is not a storage heater but the rate applies to everything in the house during those hours.

So it is possible that your system has a similar feature and it is just doing what it was set up to do.

I leave the heater on all year. If it gets warm weather it just goes cold as it does not need to do any heating, but acts promptly if the weather turns cold.

However, I do get large electricity bills, but I value keeping warm, so I persist.

Of course it’s on, it’s bloody freezing here! Never been off!

grandMattie Thu 20-May-21 13:51:52

Still one first thing. At the moment we’ve got little oil heaters which we use if it’s cold.

No central heating here either, not had any of the heaters or the living room gas fire going since the end of March.
Bedroom windows open slightly during the day, mine is open all the time unless it's really howling winds.

Charleygirl5 Thu 20-May-21 13:33:35

If it is cold I switch mine on which I ended up doing here today.

BlueBelle Thu 20-May-21 13:33:33

I don’t have any central heating but my gas fire goes on every evening ...still amazingly cold just like November here no wonder the seedlings are struggling

Puzzler61 Thu 20-May-21 13:27:10

Same as Poppyred.
I can’t be doing with feeling cold when I’m home.

Blossoming Thu 20-May-21 13:26:05

Ours has been off for a few weeks now, but we’ve just turned it on as it’s cold and rainy today!

I felt very embarrassed arriving at the holiday home we are renting in Cornwall. We had to call the agent out to re programme the heating it was soo cold. There was no problem, though the owner might not be pleased with the oil consumption!

ElaineI Thu 20-May-21 13:19:44

Had to get my winter coat back out today - brrr! Heating on if cold but not set.

Tizliz Thu 20-May-21 13:19:15

Never turn mine off, just turn it down if it warms up - I am in north Scotland

nanna8 Thu 20-May-21 13:17:10

Blaring out and has been for a few weeks now. It’s getting cooler every year, we must be in a freak pocket of the world. Either that or someone’s telling porkies about global warming.

Urmstongran Thu 20-May-21 13:14:54

Not here, but I put on the summer duvet 3 weeks ago ... can’t be bothered to change it back so just put on long sleeved pj’s!

grannylyn65 Thu 20-May-21 13:11:15

Off atm

Poppyred Thu 20-May-21 13:10:43

Mine has been on and off the last few days - if it’s cold it’s ON!

Some of my friends don’t put theirs on until 1stNovember and switch it off 1st April and are quite proud about it.

Whatever floats your boat. ??

vegansrock Thu 20-May-21 13:07:05

It’s late May- and it’s cold. I haven’t yet turned my heating off it’s still on the same settings as it was in January. Anyone going by the calendar?
