Good Morning Everyone,
from a vey wet and windy brackley this morning.
My usual shop today , and then maybe nip to the chippy for fish & chips takeaway, followed by a nap and then cycling on TV .
I had the results of my MoT yesterday despite still to have a proper blood test , and have to arrange an appointment with a surgery nurse as to outcome and suggestions to me .
Take Care ,
Mick

Good evening, Canadian Gran, you will get plenty of support here as you will probably need it! wink

I hope your husband recovers quickly!

CanadianGran Fri 21-May-21 19:15:37

Late due to time difference.

It's so nice to hear all of those that are meeting friends for lunches out. We are still under lockdown until after this weekend, when they will make a new announcement.

Working today as usual (logging on while it's slow). DH had a knee operation Wednesday so he is home resting on his reclining chair. He's a hard one to keep still, but this is perhaps tougher than he thought with crutches. Recovery should not be too long, but he is supposed to stay off of it for two weeks. Our house has 25 steps up to the front door, and 8 steps down to the back garden, so he is housebound for now. I may need emotional support....

We have a very cold spring here as well. I did put some bedding plants in and hope they thrive. I'm not one to pamper them too much. Snapdragons, dahlias and osteospurmum. Hopefully will get some nice arrangements for indoors.

Have a good weekend all.

Harris27 Fri 21-May-21 18:06:31

Thank you all x

Borrheid55 Fri 21-May-21 17:30:22

Grandmafrench you made me laugh! The nurse tore him off a strip. By the time she arrived he had also managed to open one of the (small) wounds. “I was having a wash” he said. Now under strict instructions to play the game! It’s like looking after a two year old.

muse Fri 21-May-21 15:20:59

Good afternoon from gusty wet Cornwall. I started this at 9:30 this morning. Days rarely go to plan here.

Harris21. I do hope things get sorted for your DH. An upsetting time and hope you have family + friends close by for support.

B9exchange I'm very intrigued with a plumber working your freezer. Wondering if it runs on calor gas like our last fridge.

Apology accept Nannagarra. Jax sends me a ? so I return the same in my messages.

Welcome to Blossom5. I've driven through Weymouth a few times. I used to go to Portland for my yearly dose of stone carving.

I'll finish with my update then read what posts have overtaken me.

Great news from dear son. A text this morning (2 lines). He's been offered two jobs. One is a 9 month contract. He is so pleased. So am I. I'm beaming for him. Can't wait for him to ring to find out which one he has gone for and all about it. Yippee ??‍♀️

Keep wondering why others have been asked to supply photo or video to prove identity for the NHS app. That came as a choice with me but I'd didn't chose it. I'm now wondering if by using touch ID on my iphone, it negates the need for the photo.

Empty days never happen here☹️. Well, they do, but I have to make them happen. Just ignore the gardening and household tasks and bingo, I can have a jolly. Sort of planned that yesterday and for today but not picked my book up or watched Sewing Bee yet.

Corner - Truro is my go to place. I've tried all the cafes there since moving to Cornwall six years ago but now lunch is always at the Arts cafe. ?

Currently waiting for a text or call from the chap that helps us maintain the woods. A birch is leaving the ground?. It stands close close to our bedroom annex hut. The gusting has brought a few dead branches down around the place too.

Also waiting for a call from the garage. He's done a video of a car I'm interested in. Can't risk being without a car again, living where we do. He omitted to put the price on the running commentary.

Rain is currently easing as is the wind. Take care everyone. Thoughts with those in hospital or feeling under the weather.

Lets hope we all get some sun tomorrow.
???

Grandmafrench Fri 21-May-21 14:36:49

Borrheid for pity's sake - what are (unwell) men like?! I hope you do clype him in/dob him in/grass him up !!!!! That'll teach him to think he's superman. What about all the stress and pain and sadness that going backwards after surgery causes? And to you? An uncomplicated recovery aided by you with him following orders and behaving responsibly might be nice? Tell him I said so.....I'm possibly sufficiently far away to escape eye rolling and bad language. ?

dustyangel Fri 21-May-21 14:35:57

Thank you Litterpicker, I love your name. Yes they are Pennisetum setaceum. I knew the name as soon as you said it and I just looked up the variety.smile

Grandmafrench Fri 21-May-21 14:31:21

I'm sending sympathy for your DH's time-wasting journey, dusty - I'm sure that hospitals often think that people have nothing else in their lives! Love your grasses. I should imagine that they did spread themselves about quite a bit, but things are lovely in clumps. Only thing banned in this part of the world is Pampas grass - and possibly too much of a fire hazard at certain times of year.

I think you're right Litterpicker - the only thing I can find that fits the bill is Pennisetum setaceum. Not seen it before, it's very pretty. I do love the Pennisetum villosum - Feather Top. It has lovely very fat and fluffy little rabbit's tails which blow about in the wind in the same way. You can expect a boxful of Stipa grass coming your way, dusty!!!!! I've run out of places to send baby plants to - given that importing and exporting plants from the UK on a casual basis is now out of the question. ?

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 21-May-21 14:15:20

Harris do hope your DH is better soon. Also thinking of Grandmajet
Welcome Blossom5 and any other newbies I may have missed.

what a kefuffle Cherry but coffee does smell good!!

Litterpicker Fri 21-May-21 14:08:23

I love these dustyangel. Are they pennisetum?

dustyangel Fri 21-May-21 13:39:57

It’s a beautiful day but windy, the grasses are now dancing wildly in the wind.

dustyangel Fri 21-May-21 13:23:49

Quick update fro me. DH just phoned to say that he is about to return but he had been sent to the wrong department. He should have been seeing a surgeon, so the whole process starts again. sad

Grandmafrench, I like your Stipa grass and expect it would do well here. I have something similar but with what I can only describe as tassels on the end. I have it contained in a pot now but when we had it in a bed some strayed onto next door’s boundaries and I have seen some has been blown further up the road as well. Next door obviously likes it as when his fields are cut back, he leaves the pretty clump of grasses on the edge. I’ll try to get a photo later, maybe the name will come back to me or somebody might know it.

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 21-May-21 11:44:44

Good morning , Drizzly and grey this part of the Scottish Borders. Thinking of those who have a difficult day to get through and enjoying reading about plans and excursions. Tackling the bedroom. All clothes off the radiator, ironing done and away, bed stripped. Now lying down on top of it to write this and have a few minutes on emails. Jeans on for the first time since accident. Strange how something so small can make things seem so much better. Will make bread later.
Reading The Changing Mind. A neuroscientist's guide to ageing well (it says that on the cover). Fascinating and inspiring. Had some lovely WhatsApp messages from the children today. Have a lovely Friday.x

brook2704 Fri 21-May-21 11:41:49

Oh dear Cherry I hope the rest of your day goes better then this morning - take care
A sad anniversary today dragonfly ?
Hoping your DH is much better soon Harris

Litterpicker Fri 21-May-21 11:30:57

Good morning Mick and all from West Sussex. No need to describe the weather as we all have the same today! Two wood pigeons were balanced side by side, high up in a tree in neighbouring garden. The branch was going up and down like a fairground ride!

Hope you will have better news of DH soon Harris. So sad for the anniversary of your GS Dragonfly.

Glad to hear Mr Borrheid is improving but why won’t these patients ‘dae what they’re tellt’?

Marydoll I hope you escape further restrictions - it does seem so unfair. It was good to hear of your coastal excursion. DD2 and family are hoping to be in Largs this weekend with their little campervan. If it’s too windy they can’t put the roof up and all four of them have to squeeze up ‘downstairs’ which is really not fun now that the boys are nearly adult-size.

I too came back with a car boot full of plants yesterday, after a visit to the charity where DH volunteers. They do mainly bedding and container plants so I have some vanilla scented nemesia, trailing fuchsia, lobelia and that silvery- leafed plant for baskets and tubs, the name of which I know perfectly well ?

DD3 may come to stay next weekend with 6 year old and 2 year old. The house needs some radical preparation for that to happen. I can’t remember when anyone but us last went upstairs!

I hope those on the move today are not blown away.

Marydoll Fri 21-May-21 11:22:44

Borrheid, why am I not surprised you managed to grab a millionaire! I have memories of you turning up at my home with your soldier boyfriend and his friend in tow and asking me to go on ablind date with the friend! I thought you were so sophisticated! I on the other hand, was such a shrinking violet, I think I hardly said two words all evening! Oh how times have changed!!! ?

I hop your husband is improving, but taking things easy.

DD is treating us to this surprise break in Pitlochry , as it's been such a difficult year healthwise. It should be us treating her and SIL, I don't know what I would do without them.

dustyangel Fri 21-May-21 11:18:52

Good morning everyone. I have an empty today as Marydoll would say and what have I done apart from washing my hair. I’ve spent the whole morning cleaning the bathroom and trying to sort out a whole load of DH’s shorts that were stored in a wardrobe that although isn’t damp smells inside of damp!
So far the shorts have been on the line overnight then had two washes on a long 40°temperature, (although it actually says 30°on the label) with the strongest smelling detergent I own.

I’m feeling cross because DH has driven up to Evora at what felt like the crack of dawn and left on the side a large bottle of water which he can obviously replace, and his kindle. He has a hospital appointment which always means hours of hanging around. I just hope he’s got his phone and his notes. I’m going to have a cup of coffee and catch up till I feel more myself.

B9exchange Fri 21-May-21 11:17:30

Greetings from a horribly cold and windy SW Herts. Thinking of Grandmajet and wishing her a speedy recovery. So glad you are having a wonderful time Ash

I am sure you are not in the least bit interested in our freezer saga, but the repair man came out yesterday and condemned it, the cost of a new one is not in the budget!? New one coming Saturday, but have to get neighbours to help pulling the old one out, and a plumber to disconnect the old one and then back to connect the new one. We are going away on Sunday, and the live in cat sitter will need a fridge! She came over yesterday, and Bruce bit her! He was only playing, and it was more like a hold than a bite, but now I will worry that he will behave, as she is on warfarin! ?

Tonight we are having our first meal out in a restaurant with friends. Wish we felt a bit more bright and perky, but perhaps someone other than ourselves to chat to will help.

Wishing you all as healthy and happy a day as possible.

CherryCezzy Fri 21-May-21 11:05:09

How can the contents of half a cup of spilt coffee end up everywhere ?. Why do I even have a cuppa whilst still in bed in the morning ?. I had to mop myself off, strip the bed, wipe the bedside table down, wipe the side of the bed down and clean a bit of the rug ?. I can still smell the coffee ?

Marvelous to hear so many goodmorningers having short breaks, seeing friends and family and going out to eat indoors. I hope all of you are thoroughly enjoying (or will enjoy) it ?.

Harris, I hope your DH is well again soon ?. I've had kidney stones and it wasn't pleasant - three operations to remove all of them.
dragonfly flowers
Hope you are not feeling as low today Georgesgran ?????
Thinking of grandmajet, Susan and Auntieflo.

Thank you Dwmxwg, Marydoll (don't overdo anything today, d'ya hear me! That's you told ?) and holly x

Have a good Friday everyone, including our Friday girl gillybob (if you are reading) ❤️

Grandmafrench Fri 21-May-21 10:57:27

Good Morning everyone from a sunny, warm, bit hazy South of France where the birdsong is almost silenced by my wild sneezing! Never had a big hay fever problem last year - think I need to visit a large supermarket to entertain. That'll teach people who used to make me so anxious sharing their actual germs during the last lockdown!!

I'm waiting in for a parcel delivery, otherwise I could have gone to the Tip with DH - ooooh the glamour !!

Have yourself the most super of times, Grandmabatty - come back filled with laughter and extra positivity. Welcome Blossom - go find that energy! Maybe someone has already told you, amserlerin - you need to go to the top of your page on this thread and you'll see two little buttons on the right, one of which says INBOX. Press that one and your personal messages will show.

Truro is so lovely, corner. So pleased you had a lovely time - if a bit wild and Cornish!

Get well soon, Mr harris, and so sad for your baby GS' anniversary, dragonfly. ?

Hope your trip isn't dogged by that headache, Gelisa. Travel safely. x

jax you seem to be making the most of the unseasonal weather...my Wiggy plants are in fact the same as muse has mentioned. Stipa tenuissima/Mexican Feather. I know they're invasive (my strolls around my garden will bear that out), but I do love them. I was always hypnotised by fields of Barley in the wind and this gives me the same feeling. They need lots of dry and well-draining places to grow - require special permission to grow them in Mexico, I think. Monty Don (my hero) recently cleared all his in a special garden he had for such plants, because he couldn\t get the dryness required and they were a big disappointment. However, I reckon that in a pot, you'd have huge success. I just keep an eye on little baby ones that suddenly appear in other pots! Or somewhere in a patch of bare ground. They're easy to pull out and don't have a massive root system so I feel I'm safe.

Non-stressful, please yourself days to everyone. Try to make it a Fun Friday (even for a small part!). Take care and fingers crossed that the long march to freedom will be ending soon.
?‍♀️

Urmstongran Fri 21-May-21 10:54:11

Morning to you Mancgirl ? we are off to Wester Ross 4 weeks tomorrow and my stepfather (who will be 90y next year) wants us to have a trip up to Ullapool while we are up there. He wants a stroll down memory lane.

We’re back from taking the children to school - the 4y old chatted all the way. Too cute. When we got home, as we passed through the square we decided to enjoy breakfast and coffee in our independent cafe bar (where I have been getting the takeaway coffees during lockdown!). So nice to sit inside with my plate of toast, poached eggs and smoked salmon!

Grandmajean Fri 21-May-21 10:48:41

Borrheid55 myDH ,DS and DGS have a week each summer in a beautiful cottage in Kinloch Rannoch. Wonder if it is on that estate . This boys' holiday has been going on for nearly 30 years with husband and son and now grandson. They used to stay in the Highland Lodges which are also timeshare but things got unreliable with these rentals and they have been in this beautiful cottage for the last three years.Marydoll a trip to Pitlochry and House of Bruar are essential parts of the week as is cycling round the Loch !
