Extending curtain poles for nets

So sorry travelsafar, my Arthritis is worse in my hands than anywhere else, I sympathise with you . Many a time I’ve had to wait and ask for help and that’s something I don’t take easily too like you,??

I sympathise with you travelsafar, I spent the whole of last week trying to change the bulb in my oven and put the door back on after cleaning it. A phone call to my son and he came round and did both in minutes. He was happy to do it and was shocked I hadn't told him sooner but it goes against the grain to ask for help when we have always done things for ourselves. What I want to know is why does everything have to be so hard??? I am sorry for your loss and hope you feel better.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one that you twist. The ones I’ve used in the past have been spring loaded. They work okay but the springs are quite strong. No twisting involved though.

I use the twisting ones . The trick is to start with it slightly too long and force it into place by sliding it forcefully down the plastered window recess. If it takes no real force to slide it into place i.e.
horizontal, it is too loose to stay put.

BTW you need to have threaded the curtain on before you put the rod up!

I have got both types in various windows but the last time we decorated one bedroom we bought a net rod that sits in two u shaped holders. It's a wide window and this is so much easier than the old twist rod. Bought quite cheaply from B&Q.

thank you for all comments. My dear sister and i managed to put it up tis morning when she came for coffee. I held on end and she the other and so far they have stayed in place. I may investigate the ones from B and Q as hate having to keep relying on others and i have these rods all over the house. It is the ones for wider windows that struggle with. Once again Thanks.

These are the sort, the inside bit keeps the pole from jumping out. You screw them to the recess wall. There are different sizes/finishes. You may just have to buy brackets if your poles will sit in them. Ours was wrong shape, but the new pole was cheap enough.
