A different experience for me. I was happy with Sky+ but told that in order to include Netflix in my package I would have to have a SkyQ box. It’s a prettier interface with some new features such as voice control but does not have all the features of Sky+ specifically some I found useful. I asked Sky to revert to my previous package and Sky+ but they refused so I waved them goodbye after twenty years.

The experience made me think about what I liked to watch. I realised that I watched very little Sky original content and much of what I was watching though the Sky Box was available free to air or through other apps. The combined cost of those apps is considerably less than what I was paying to Sky. Also, by exploring what is available via other apps you find a much wider range of viewing than Sky provide.

Of course, now I receive something in the mail each week asking me to come back for half of what I was paying before.

To compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime and others, Sky have started to up their game of late and are broadcasting more original drama content but eventually they sell these to other providers so I’m not tempted plus, of course, they want to bind you into 18-24 month contract.

My husband's new hobby is talking to the remote control and asking it to find programmes! It's great.

MacCavity2 It was £99 to upgrade, this was worth the money as the engineer repositioned the dish so the strength is much better.
I got the same box free for my neighbour as her Sky box was 13 years old and no longer working properly.

I think some of us did extol the virtues a while ago. My DH doesnt like talking to it and insists on all the scrolling rigmarole. I'll talk to anybody or anything.

The cost of Sky is huge and it does go against the grain but it is, currently, the best place for the football. And, two other people can watch SkyGo!

Sky upgraded me for free when my old box started playing up - even though it turned out to be a cable problem

However, I find the Q box strange. For example I recorded a series and sat down to watch it yesterday. It started half way through episode 2, when I forced it back to episode 1 it started 7% of the way in. Series links cancel themselves. It is not easy to work out which programmes you have watched to delete them. I now watch a whole series before deleting any. The voice activated search doesn’t like me - anyone seen that YouTube of two Scottish men in a voice activated lift? - that is my level of frustration

You say you watch very little telly. That’s where us who bought these products several years ago saw the adverts for them.

Sky Q not only listens but does as asked!

I had a new Sky Q box set up last week. It was cheap because my old box was very old. I didn't know about voice control!
I am still trying to get to grips with what has changed, but now I will have to try that too

We have a Virgin box in a room that has no aerial and we used to go in there to watch Netflix but was more comfortable in the room which had the tv which only half freeview. Then last year we bought a smart tv which gave us Netflix, Amazon Prime which was included in our Prime membership, bbc i player, itv hub, more 4, Five, and Catch Up. So now comfortable and no need to upgrade Virgin box to get Amazon Prime. Our Virgin box is part of a package which gives us wi fi and free landline calls 24 / 7. Also gives us a spare tv to spare me the motor racing so I can watch a film.

There is no need to delete stuff as there is acres of storage. The theory is that one should watch on Catch up etc but we find that if we don't record we tend to forget we wanted to watch something.

I have had Sky Q Box for several years now, and love it. I can record so many programmes on different channels, which are often on at the same time, something you couldn't do before. Also if you want to keep any of the things or series you have recorded you can press KEEP and they are there for as long as you want to keep them. At the present time we are all watching endless repeats due to the last 18 months of the pandemic. Because I had recorded many series and programmes of all kinds of my personal choice, I love good informative documentaries of many subjects, also series I follow. I am enjoying watching fresh programmes all the time. Thank to SKY Q.BOX. I believe it will record and store hundreds of programmes.
