While I don’t deny the UK has beautiful places, I love going abroad (not to lie on a beach and drink sangria by the way). I love the different food, culture, history, scenery, people, language etc. In the rest of Europe.
I am missing that so much.

I also need to go abroad to visit my son in Australia but wouldn’t through choice !

Maybe people need to get creative and do home swaps. Trouble is, my house comes with cats to feed! (And they get on the beds too!)

Hmmm. Tempted to let out my flat in north Yorkshire.! Not really. I’d have to tidy it up.

We 'attestation d'accueil' we only planned for those staying with family or friends- not second homes. However, it seems the information given by several newspapers and internet sites, was not accurate. However, Covid rules are another matter- whether you have paid your fees, local taxes, etc, will make no difference.

We own a mobile home in France, have had to pay our annual site fee and want to stay in it. I doubt we are the only ones in this situation.

I'm guessing there might be some UK cancellations available where people have double booked to stay here or in the hope to go abroad. You might be able to register interest with a booking agency just in case, though of course last minute isn't ideal.

That's the problem, EllanVannin. Holiday places to stay in are almost zero.
I said elsewhere that I have offered stays at my house to friends and family from London, it's the least I can do. Children and working couples deserve a break here by the sea.
(Please don't start the criticism that I am bragging or wanting a halo again. I am doing what my friends would do for me, I'm sure.)

I enjoy holidaying abroad, but I am equally happy to stay in the UK. Providing the holiday is totally different from what I have at home, (accommodation, food, scenery) that's fine.

We are just biding our time as we have a GC in an Amber Country and their parents in a Red Country.

When I was working full time I needed a holiday in the sunshine so that meant getting abroad.
Now I work part time or not at all due to COVID it’s not as important as I enjoy the sun in our garden or will go off hiking in the sunshine.

I’d love to have enough money to go visit every country in Europe several times a year !

Not that there's anything wrong with lying on the beach - in fact I can do that for a couple of hours if not too hot.

Maybe you are, in fact, my kind of holiday person Lucca?

I'm missing it so much as this year will be another 'staycation' . Hopefully next year travel will be safer. I love the sunshine, the relaxed way of life, cafe culture, the history and lovely old buildings. There are some fabulous places in the UK but it's a break more than a holiday.

We have found Italy to be just right for us and I am really missing it.

I'm not a "lie on a beach" person as Lucca is but I love the slower way of life in the south there. The straight-from-the-fields veg, hand picked olives, fresh baked bread, pastas, wines. I love the off-the-beaten-track places where centuries of feet have trodden. The moving archeological sites.... I just love the feeling there - and the people who are local rather than just on holiday.

But, this year, again, I'm not trying to visit.
That's just the way it is.

I’m not a lie on the beach person!!

I love going abroad, but right now I think it's unwise, so I cancelled our up and coming flights a while ago. The whole airport palaver puts me off going overseas at the moment, particularly mask wearing for hours on end.

When I was younger the idea of holidaying in Britain didn't appeal at all, but as I've got older I've come to appreciate how beautiful Britain can be. The weather hasn't been great so far this year, which does put a dampener on holidaying at home, our recent week in Dorset wasn't great in that respect only. Fingers crossed it will improve now we are nearly into June. We are having a week in Wales in July I hope the weather will be better by then, but as beautiful as it is, Wales is green for a reason! although the unexpected can happen, Wales in April for us a few years ago, it was positively balmy we could have been in the Mediterranean like that every day!

Very sorry for those with children abroad under the present circumstances.

I think lots of people actually need a dose of sun to make them feel better. You can be lucky in U.K. and have a good spell of sunny weather and I agree lots of places are beautiful but you have a more guaranteed sunny week in places more southerly.
I want to have a visit back in U.K. and will put up with grey skies etc because I need to see our children and grandchildren - not seen anyone for eighteen months like many other people. However we don’t intend taking any risks till it all settles a bit.

For me the “holiday abroad” means seeing DS, daughter-in-law and grandchildren in Singapore. We used to see them regularly but haven’t seen them since Christmas 2019. We ache to see them again and miss them dreadfully - we can’t hug over zoom.
