Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

I do admit that I'm being nasty.
I'll take any opportunity to have a pop at him! ?

And still religion divides us.

She looks lovely and he looks like he's made bugger all effort.

There is another photo of them when Mr.Johnson has he jacket and tie on, I assume that this was later on in the day.

Sorry should have said ..I was refused Communion.

Apologies for my long Covid brain cloud.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 30-May-21 12:32:10

theworriedwell I hope they celebrated with bottles of bubbly and that Wilfred spent the night with his Grandparents.

Rules are :-
2 baptised people - 1 a Catholic
Previous marriages of divorcé weren't in Catholic churches so therefore not recognised by church
Says BBC

Try that reasoning if you're an ordinary person. I was married in a Registry Office but after my divorce was refused I was Communion on the grounds that I was a divorcee. The Church made it very clear that my Registry Office wedding counted. There is no way the Church would allowed me to marry in my parish church let alone Westminster Cathedral.

I don't care about them getting married. But I object to the Catholic hierarchy bending the rules to allow the marriage in church.

The other point about a Catholic PM. A Catholic can be PM but it raises questions when he/she advises the monarch on ecclesiastical matters as the C of E and RC don't agree on all points.

The dress looks much nicer in that picture GrannyGravy than the one I previously saw. I like it now.

Whatever you think they both look very happy and in love in this photo

He looks like he's had a few glasses to celebrate to me.

She looks like something out of The Wicker Man. Still it’s good to be able to recycle old tablecloths and she is supposed to be a conservationist.

Sorry, that is a really nasty comment to a bride on her wedding day!!!

Fashion especially ethical fashion has moved on from the days of brides having to look like a meringues.

My Father had multiple marriages and had a child with the majority of his wives, all his offspring (myself included) are close.

As we gained adulthood we grew to understand him, and loved him very much.

MayBee70 Sun 30-May-21 12:26:11

Just read on Facebook that, now that they’re married she can no longer testify against him. Interesting.....hmm

I wonder what Carrie's parents think of it all...
If she were my daughter I'd be worried sick

“Three weddings and 130 thousand Funerals”

What a nasty post on what is supposed to be a wedding thread.

FannyCornforth Sun 30-May-21 12:14:54

Thank you Chestnut, well that's not me then. It's my first ever foray into Boris bashing on here. I probably won't bother again. I've said my piece!
I admit that my comments about Johnson were nasty. It was absolutely my intention.

I am all for people in the public eye, keeping their private life private...

As our Queen says never complain, never explain...

A wedding isn't private and the insult to other Catholics who have been denied a church wedding isn't private either.

I think I will be contacting my parish priest to ask if I can now, after nearly 40 years have a church wedding.

It might all be gossip and speculation to some but it is heartbreaking to others.

I suspect that a lot of Catholic priests will be very perturbed by this news, there have already been several who have taken to Twitter to express their concerns about the impact this news will have on people within the Catholic Church who have been denied a second marriage.

In fact there is no need of ‘annulment’ as BJ has not previously been married according to Catholic custom and therefore his previous marriages were ‘invalid’ in the eyes of the RC church. His children from previous marriages are legitimate as they were born of marriages that were legal.

Well the custom must vary. My first marriage was a civil marriage. When I married again, we are both Catholic, I was told we could only marry in church if my first marriage was annulled. I had grounds for annulment but wouldn't do it as it effectively meant my children became illegitimate.

The teaching was that a marriage that acknowledged the joining of one man and one woman in a marriage that was meant to be for a lifetime was regarded as a marriage so the church would not allow a church wedding.

The priests are almost certainly right as I can name two people who are angry, there are bound to be more.

Chestnut Sun 30-May-21 12:10:39

Chestnut it's his third marriage.
He won't even say how many children he's got.

I do hope that you are not referring to me as a 'usual suspect'.
I can assure you that I am neither nasty nor bitter. As many on here can attest. smile
I am, however, a very good judge of character.

The 'usual suspects' are those who take every opportunity to bash Boris (and the Conservatives). I'm not calling anyone bitter or nasty, just the comments that have been made are.

Hear hear! ?
It must be a nightmare for anyone in the public eye now. Everyone wants to know about your personal life so they can be judge and jury and tear you to pieces on anonymous forums.

leeds22 Sun 30-May-21 11:59:13

Apparently his first two 'non-Catholic' marriages don't count. When my first, catholic, marriage failed (aged 32) I was told by a priest that I would have to live the rest of my life through god. I became an avowed atheist and never looked back.

Ilovecheese Sun 30-May-21 11:55:52

Yes, it is Carrie Symonds first marriage, and yes, it is understandable that she would want a church wedding. That does not mean that the Catholic Church should have changed its stance on divorcees just because one of them is the Prime Minister.

Anniebach Sun 30-May-21 11:51:38

It’s Carrie’ first marriage so a Church wedding is understandable
