Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

I’d guess they can go to confession now and be absolved of all the bad things they’ve done (tongue in cheek - I know I know..).

Whitewavemark2 Sun 30-May-21 09:36:45

Are people who have paid for an abortion allowed to get married in the Catholic Church?

Gingster Sun 30-May-21 09:37:13

The Catholic Church disregard the previous marriages , civil or In a non Catholic Church, and don’t count them. They didn’t happen. They regard this as his first marriage.

How does that make the previous wives and children feel, I wonder.
The Catholic Church is a law unto itself!

JaneJudge Sun 30-May-21 09:37:55

I'm sure all Churches, including Catholic have rules around divorces remarrying especially when the divorcee was the cause of the previous marriage collapse and children are involved.

I'm intrigued too Callistemon.

I don't understand why any woman would be remotely interested in this oaf.
Since Carrie is interested in him, I'm very dubious about her powers of reasoning.

I think her powers of reasoning are absolutely sound. She is able to live a most luxurious lifestyle at absolutely no cost to herself or her new spouse. He has already turned a blind eye to a £200,000 refurbishment of a flat, taken her on luxury holidays at other people's expense, arranged for free high end takeaway meals, provided her with a Union Jack flagged plane for those little getaways, and, as a wedding present, is providing a luxury ship, called a Royal Yacht (a snip at £200million of public money) for when they want to travel in a more leisurely fashion.

He's clearly settling in for the long haul at No. 10, Carrie's prospects for future lavish spending financed by the state and by tory donors are excellent.

And people wonder what she sees in him? Duh....

It was on Apple News as it came up on the iPad screen. It’s on there now. Westminster Cathedral was cleared for the hour and a half ceremony. The bride was reported to have worn a long white dress but no veil. The baby was there as well.

No comment what he wore. what is with the no veil comment?
nice the baby was there.

They may be Catholic in name, but the way they live their lives Boris in particular, shows no adherence to Catholic teaching. Unless he's had a Damascus moment, Boris is being hypocritical and disrespectful.

Pippa22 Sun 30-May-21 10:13:44

Boris has married his mistress creating a vacancy ! Cynical me...

Marydoll Sun 30-May-21 10:15:58

Beswitched, I totally agree with your post!
I have a friend and ex colleague, married in the Catholic Church to an abuser, who once divorced from him for the sake of her mental and physical health, was denied the scaraments and a second marriage to a thoroughly decent man by the Catholic Church.
No wonder I, as practising Catholic, am becoming very disillusioned with the Church, when a serial adulterer is allowed to marry in the Church.

well Carolie Louise B Symonds has raised her status at number 10.
photo of wedding on dm now

But look at the compensation she gets (see my post @ 9.57).

I'm sure she'll be very good at turning a blind eye to little infidelities.

Wow - I really can't believe all the nasty unpleasant comments on this thread against a couple who have just got married.

It must be wonderful to have never made a mistake or wrong decision in your life.

GN used to be a place where people could air their views without resorting to snide remarks - unfortunately those days are long gone - one of the reasons I no longer post.

Galaxy Sun 30-May-21 10:21:28

I am sorry if people having different views to you makes you uncomfortable. I have made lots of mistakes that's why I recognise some of them.

Lillie Sun 30-May-21 10:21:44

well said wadesnan

pretty dress. i like the sleeves.

fairfraise Sun 30-May-21 10:22:52

Well I hope they have a long and happy union. As a former RC myself I hope the press aren't going to seize on him every time he doesn't go to Mass etc. I wish them both well.

MayBee70 Sun 30-May-21 10:23:59

Won’t it be difficult for him to have little dalliances now due to having 24 hour police protection? He therefore is totally dependent on his now wife for (ahem) everything. If he controls the country she pretty much controls him. So much for ‘taking back control’. Even worse that she’s a marriage breaker with expensive tastes who, along with her husband has been sacked from a previous job for wrongdoings. Interesting that the first newspapers to get the news were The Torygraph and The Scum.

maddyone Sun 30-May-21 10:25:06

I’ve just seen a small item on SkyNews about the wedding, and one picture of them on the day. Boris and Carrie are apparently both baptised Catholics, and Boris was confirmed into the the Church of England. Apparently Carrie is a practicing catholic. They were married yesterday in a small ceremony with no more than thirty guests. I wish them well, as I would to any other newly married couple.

MayBee70 Sun 30-May-21 10:30:24

I think it was pretty two faced of her to wear white. I wonder if there’s any significance in the fact that she didn’t wear a veil? Was it from choice or was she not allowed to? I know how betrayed children feel when their father leaves their mother for another woman so all I can think of is how his (acknowledged) children must be feeling now.

You are so right here WadesNan. If anything, it gets worse all the time. Lots of people get married more than once these days, including many Gransnetters. Unfortunately marriages break down for many reasons and normally people aren’t vilified because their marriage has ended, whatever the reasons, which after all, are nothing to do with the rest of us.

Alegrias1 Sun 30-May-21 10:30:43

Oh, I've been staying out of this because the PM getting married is very low on my list of priorities just now.

But calling Carrie a "marriage breaker" is completely out of order, whatever her failings. We're not living in the 19th Century.

It takes two to tango.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 30-May-21 10:32:28

I wish them well but assume that Mrs Johnson the Third knows what she is letting herself in for. She has the child and no doubt a title when BJ resigns for health reasons and is sent to the House of Lords.

Another famous woman got married in white, with a veil too. Many people vilify posters who comment on that person, but it’s okay to make unpleasant comments about Carrie!

lemsip Sun 30-May-21 10:35:02

Alegrias1 watching from the side lines ready to step in then. not quite staying out of this.

Harris27 Sun 30-May-21 10:35:05

Some good news good luck to them. Did it quietly well done.

maddyone Sun 30-May-21 10:36:15

Alegrias, you’re probably right to stay out of it. Most likely I should have too, but I don’t like the unpleasantness I’m seeing here.
