Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

Crikey believe me he is not an alpha malegrin. Unless you mean that all the husbands of the people who have managed to remain faithful are somehow less of a man?

Boris definitely is an alpha male. But an alpha male is not necessarily a womaniser, so there's no disrespect to any alpha males who stay with one woman.

So would Westminster LA display notice of the forthcoming nuptials, surprised no one noticed.

Hmm?

I just wish them all the best, whatever. I'm not perfect.

A bride wearing white was a symbol of purity in the past, now I see it as a tradition rather than a symbol.

I think it was pretty two faced of her to wear white. I wonder if there’s any significance in the fact that she didn’t wear a veil? Was it from choice or was she not allowed to? I know how betrayed children feel when their father leaves their mother for another woman so all I can think of is how his (acknowledged) children must be feeling now.

Another famous woman got married in white, with a veil too. Many people vilify posters who comment on that person, but it’s okay to make unpleasant comments about Carrie!

I can’t quite believe that in 2021 anybody thinks it is 2 faced for anybody not a virgin, to marry in white!
A quick straw poll among Gransnetters themselves, their daughters or even their mothers, might reveal a different story.....
As for divorcees of either gender marrying in church - Anglican or Catholic- are we all so perfect?
I’m not particularly religious but I always liked that thing about exhorting those “without sin to cast the first stone “

Do you have much experience of womanisers chestnut. Because I do. I played that game a lot in my youth. And I can tell you without exception they were incredibly insecure the exact opposite of an alpha male.

Congratulations to Carrie and Boris and I hope they have many years of happiness ahead of them with their little boy Wilfred. ??

Galaxy Sun 30-May-21 11:22:34

Once you got beyond the front it was all smoke and mirrors. We do enormous damage to women in general in presenting the idea of an alpha male. Actually scrub that I think its more damaging to men.

I don't like the dress.
It's a nice style, but the fabric is awful.
It looks like too white polyester.
It would have been better in ivory.

Oh dear, you are bound for disappointment I’m afraid.

It looks terribly cheap tbh.

Perhaps they are a bit hard up ????

BTW there must be many “hypocrites” among us (myself included) who wore white wedding dresses as was the fashion in our day but we weren’t virgins.
Now it has become the fashion for wedding dresses to be ivory or other colours. Still nothing to do with our virginity IMHO. ?

The dress looks lovely to me. She's tall and willowy and can carry it well.

Puzzler61 Sun 30-May-21 11:27:52

I’m a glass half full kind of gal Whitewave . ?

Catholics can marry in a catholic church if they have only been wed previously in a register office- (or somewhere else by a registrar, like a stately home, etc) as that's not recognised by the catholic church.I know this as i did it myself some years ago.

I think the fabric is likely to be organic silk if Carrie's views are anything to go by.
I think it is lovely and suits her.

Nannan2 Sun 30-May-21 11:29:36

Also as they dont recognise that, they dont recognise the divorce of such a previous marriage.

MayBee70 Sun 30-May-21 11:29:48

I don’t have problem in general with anyone wearing white on their wedding day but this is a case of someone having a highly religious wedding in. Catholic Church that is opposed to divorce, adultery etc and rules seem to have been bent to allow them to do so. For what it’s worth I was married in a registry office and wore black. Not that I’ve ever had an affair with a married man. Mind you, I’ve often thought that it could be a good thing to join a religion that allows you to do whatever you like because all you have to do is confess it and you’ll go straight to heaven.

FannyCornforth Sun 30-May-21 11:31:39

There is no evidence that Carrie is a 'marriage breaker'.
Carrie was linked to Johnson in 2019, and Johnson and Marina announced their divorce in 2018 (when Marina was undergoing cancer treatment).
Johnson's marriage to Marina had been broken for quite some time prior to that I believe.

I'll put my hand up to the accusation of being a 'Boris hater'.
It's got nothing to do with his politics, and everything to with his moral compass; overblown ego; sense of entitlement; and generally being an unpleasant, untrustworthy git.

Callistemon Sun 30-May-21 11:31:42

I agree WadesNan
Where are the people who leap to Prince Harry's defence but are not defending a couple who have just got married?

Yes, but Sparklefizz you have missed the point.
Meghan and Harry were both virgins when they got married and never accepted any public money.

poshpaws Sun 30-May-21 11:36:59

Baggs

Carrie is.

Well, obviously not a committed one, since she committed adultery and had (gosh! wow!) sex out of wedlock.

Chestnut Sun 30-May-21 11:38:17

So many bitter nasty remarks here (yes the usual suspects!) ?
I'm sure many men have had mistresses in their youth but settle down when they get older. I don't think there will be any more, and I hope they will be happy together. (I'm not saying it's right or acceptable, it's just a fact).

GrannyGravy13 Sun 30-May-21 11:40:48

When a man marries his mistress it does not always create a vacancy, if Carrie is the one I wish them every happiness.

I should imagine that the percentage of virgin brides in the UK is down to single figures so wearing a white dress is not a problem. It is her first marriage and obviously wanted it to be special (as does every bride)

A happily married man will/would not stray, and as Mr.Johnson refuses to kiss and tell no one on GN or in the MSM knows both sides.

If the Catholic Church is now allowing divorcees to marry, well done them.
