I found the key that soop left.
I must complain that getting down to retrieve keys then getting up again is very tricky! Please leave them in a more accessible place in future.
Anyway here’s a bottle of Dom Perignon and a large iced bowl of caviar to open the kitchen!
( we’re going posh this time!

Puzzler61 Thu 17-Jun-21 18:56:53

Have a wonderful trip brook. Hope you’re there in time to surprise your GC by being at the school gate to meet them coming out ?

Jaxjacky Thu 17-Jun-21 19:14:50

Hi all, it’s raining, properly and has done for about 3 hours, lovely.
soop I really hope your meeting tomorrow offers a solution for your dropbot problems, here’s multiple ??.
I too hope you’ve had a positive update kitty any information would be better than none, on the optimistic side an absolute plus.
How exciting brook, have a wonderful time.
JL should be delivering our new sofa and chair tomorrow, I’m awaiting the text with the 2 hour time slot, please not 7-9am!
Have a lovely evening all, thoughts with those in distress, x.

Doodle Thu 17-Jun-21 19:42:53

kitty I hope there is good news of your brother. ?
annsixy I realise it will take a deal of courage to visit your friend. I am hopeless with directions and would panic myself but I do think a visit to your friend would bring such pleasure to you both. I hope you get to make it.
Hugs from me to you too grandmafrench I hope you had a lovely lunch with your friends. So nice to do something normal again. ?
Dear soop if I could paint half as well as your discarded portrait I would be really happy. However, I know when I’m quilting, if you are not happy with what you’ve achieved then you will try and improve it.
Glad Sweetie Pie ( gosh Mr Soop is an old softie ?) is still visiting and enjoying her food. Good luck with the drop bot surgeon tomorrow. I wish they could do more to help you.
brook have a lovely time with your family. I bet you can’t wait.
urms even though you’re on a break I miss you ?

brook2704 Thu 17-Jun-21 20:36:02

Thank you all so much - my bag is packed and I’m ready to go ✈️ ?

muse Thu 17-Jun-21 20:58:45

annsixty. No rain in Cornwall. Thought I felt some last night as I walked Mya. Dry as a bone this morning. Only advantage for me is that the groundwork boys are finding the clay soil easy to dig out for the drainage. I've prioritised the polytunnel fruit and veg. I do hope you visit your friend. I'm thinking of a Cornwall to Warrington train journey (2 changes) later this year. Seeing my daughter once this year isn't enough. She's here in one week though for 7 whole days?

anno The abyss is cavernous now. Taking a photo tomorrow morning when light is good. It's dark down there!

All the best for Saturday Blossoming.

Grandmafrench. Inside loo will be bliss. When I moved in with MrM six years ago, all he had was an outside compost loo?. Derbyshire gals are stern stuff but there is a limit. We built a bathroom on the back of a bedroom annex. Not ideal. Quick dashes outside in the night, in winter, in pitch black (head torch always handy) are tricky to say the least. How was that divine lunch?

Thinking of you kitty. Hope the news arrives very soon .

soop A smile and a full tum. Good luck with the surgeon.

Sorry, the plate is empty folks. Cake and strawberries are no more. Still lots of beetroot in the freezer though. Beetroot brownies might be in the kitchen this weekend. I'll not mention it to MrM.

Smooth flight Brook. Cambridge is a lovely place. I lived there for all of 6 months when I was 18. Oh crikey - that was 53 years ago ☹️.

Doodle. Missing Urm too. Hope tomorrow brings us news of Panache.

Grandmafrench Thu 17-Jun-21 21:24:35

Leaving on a jet plane, ? Brook. I so wish I enjoyed flying.
Lovely just to drop back into your GC's lives again. Have a wonderful time.

Tomorrow is your big chance, soop, give it your all please and don't be fobbed off. You're looking, not for a small miracle but some empathy. Make it clear - "How would you manage living like this?" See what answers you get. Keeping everything crossed for you. Hope you know that. As for the painting, lovely. If you are capturing the essence of that little dog in the way that you did for our Nouba, then you're doing more than your best. Such a lovely thing to be able to do.

Thinking of you dear Panache. Hoping your Brother is calmer today and you'll soon be able to see what treatment options are available, kitty.

Nice to see that Sweetie Pie is still turning up at Bistro Soop. She's a little Madam. I still think that her regular table booking will become more regular once the weather turns in the Autumn. More apartment cleaning for you both.

Our lunch was a delight. I still can't believe how different everything was - threw me a little - but very enjoyable and only one member of staff no longer there. We were driven so that I could have a glass or two. I'm normally the driver on those occasions. There was nowhere to park in the massive car park. That put me off the moment we arrived! However, it was perhaps due to loads of visitors to the winery which is attached because the Restaurant couldn't possibly hold those numbers.
Plenty of 'foreign' registered vehicles, but from other French regions. Normally there would be cars from all over, including the UK.

Perfect table in the window, air conditioning lifting the atmosphere and jolly staff who only returned to work from last October at the start of this week. It felt peculiar wearing a mask into the Restaurant and until we were seated - remember this is the first time for me. The waiters stayed masked. Yesterday our local village ended the obligatory mask wearing everywhere, now it's just in the market and inside shops.

And what did I eat? Well, I was determined to make the most of it so we chose, starters, main course and dessert. Cost of that was approximately £21 (in English money, per person). We were given some interesting little glasses to try and accompany our apéritif - mostly goats cheese based, which I adore. Then with the most wonderful bottle of local Rosé, I had an Oeuf mollet - a soft-boiled egg on a basil infused creamy type base with tiny salad vegetables and croutons. Then I had a lamb dish with little rice moulds, a sauce with ras el hanout and a vegetable gratin. Then a Tiramisu with raspberries. We were very good and skipped over the cheese which is served before dessert. We had some lovely home made bread with our meal and drove home and collapsed into a garden seat and stayed there.

Really enjoyable. We had to fill in our names and addresses and telephone numbers on a form on the table - just in case the worst happens! I shall not think about that. All in all, and after waiting 15 months to eat out, we're very glad we went.

Early this evening very loud rumbles of thunder have been making threatening noises. Storms due for the weekend and then back to high temperatures again. So tomorrow I shall hopefully do all I need to in the garden and concentrate on indoor stuff - which always needs attention.

Do hope your new furniture doesn't arrive in the middle of breakfast, Jax - does take the edge off the fun, doesn't it. However, as long as it actually arrives you probably don't care too much. Hopefully you've been feeling loads better today.

Going to open some sort of Transport Café, Muse? All that tea-making will stand you in good stead and your cakes will certainly sell well ! And wouldn't it be nice if you discovered something interesting with all that digging? Well, perhaps not gold but something you could keep about the place to remind yourselves of the Big Dig. Maybe you'll just have to be content with The New Loo. That's a cause for celebration.

Pleased that the Pilates seems to be making a difference to your aches and pains. If you can cut down or do away with the medication that'll be so worth it....even if you have to share the experience with the Village Idiot. We all have our crosses to bear.

I'm possibly going to forget one or two important things following all your posts, but it will have to wait until tomorrow now. If I do an anno and even attempt to look back, I know that will be my post gone forever, so won't risk that.

Sleep well all, hugs all round. Is it tomorrow that Urms marches North? Have a wonderful break #lazygran - we'll try not to move much until you return but a little 'postcard' might be nice?

Nighty night ??‍♀️?

Grandmafrench Thu 17-Jun-21 21:31:49

And after all that.....forgot the impending appointment, Blossoming. Please try not to worry. I'd like to think that you will be anaesthetised like we are here, but maybe that's why you are so concerned? Try to focus on the 'afterwards' and having a small celebration and getting the news you want.
You can do this!

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Jun-21 21:53:47

That meal sounds delicious Grandmafrench. Salad for you tomorrow!

Jaxjacky Thu 17-Jun-21 21:59:40

Text received Grandmafrench between 10 and 12:29am…love the preciseness! Your lunch holds memories for us of many in the Dordogne and further afield in France, just enough of eat,
muse digging for Britain is personified with you, good job you don’t have rain..slipping and spilling mugs of tea!
blossoming your ‘procedure’ is one I haven’t had and hope never to have…it’s ridiculous, I know from friends ‘it’s not that bad’ and that the prep is the worst bit. All I could do is fast forward to after the event with a treat awaiting, get yourself something sorted…I’ll be with you in spirit..well , I’ll try xx
Sleep tight all, no bitey things x

Hellogirl1 Thu 17-Jun-21 23:31:46

Good Luck tomorrow Soop xx
Yia, isn`t Slapton Sands where some wartime action took place just before the Normandy landings? It rings a bell about something anyway.
My daughter can hear again, after more than a week totally deaf. Am I glad, it`s been driving me bonkers! Good job it worked after costing £140.

cornergran Thu 17-Jun-21 23:33:24

Good luck blossoming, sleep well it’s truly not that bad.

Yiayia4 Fri 18-Jun-21 07:24:56

Your right Hellogirl Slapton sands was used as a dress rehearsal for the D Day landings called operation Tiger. It went terribly wrong and at least a 1,000 men died,an awful disaster.
Good luck for tomorrow Blossoming

soop Fri 18-Jun-21 12:47:30

Dearest you lovely lot, home again having seen the drop bot surgeon. Next step - an appointment with a specialist team in Glasgow, possibly at the Queen Elizabeth hospital. It will involve a much more in-depth hmm scanning the pelvic floor dynamics. Something positive to hold on to. The surgeon has done all that she can perform in the local Oban hospital. We look forward to making further progress elsewhere.

Before I begin the new portrait, I shall return to read through your latest happenings. I confess to be being very much "out of the loop".

Puzzler61 Fri 18-Jun-21 12:57:09

I hope the Glasgow hospital have all the most advanced treatments at their fingertips soop.
Any idea on how long until you get an appointment to go? Will you be fast-tracked?
I hope you are feeling optimistic at today’s consultation?
Someone must know how to put your bot bits into a comfortable position and functioning well. Fingers crossed you are prioritised and get an appt. soon.
Get up for the rest of the day.
PS Is it time for Mr soop to get another stock of delectable cat food for Fern - she must be going through it at a pace ?

Puzzler61 Fri 18-Jun-21 12:58:27

Flowers for you soop especially, but all kitchen friends.
Picked for a garden (not mine) yesterday.

Marydoll Fri 18-Jun-21 13:12:35

Glad to hear you are safely home, Soop. I have every faith in the QEUH, speaking from personal experience. Fingers crossed for you.

soop Fri 18-Jun-21 13:14:12

N&G HAPPY Christmas celebrations with your nearest and dearest. I'm willing to bet that there will be wall to wall laughter and hugs a plenty.

kitty I am also wishing your brother well. If only we had the gift of healing powers. We could rally around our kitchener friends and sort all manner of buggerations in a trice.

muse The cake looks far too good to eat. Although I may indulge in a chocolate coated strawberry...or three.

Blossoming I am with you in thought. This will be a trying day. Soonest over, the better. sunshine flowers for tomorrow.

annodomini Fri 18-Jun-21 13:24:10

Oh soop, all round the houses again! But your surgeon has let in a shaft of daylight by referring you to a specialist team. Why hasn't that been thought of before, I wonder.
That Fern, eating you out of house and home! I'm mystified that, since she is a female, and evidently living rough (unless she has another home) she isn't obviously pregnant time and again. Maybe she has, in the past, been spayed. Either that, or she is very good at fighting off the toms.
I see from the 'teleview' at the Queen's Club tennis, that it's pouring in London. Here it is overcast but dry, so far. When my new hose is delivered, it will, almost certainly, rain.
Am I going to watch the football tonight? Maybe - from behind the sofa, with my eyes closed.? DS2 will text me and gloat if England win. His brother is more tactful. Both DSs were born in England, while I remain staunchly Scots, though exiled. Hopefully the Tartan Army will behave well!

soop Fri 18-Jun-21 13:32:49

Thank you, Marydoll. It's true that a little hope goes a very, very long way. grin

Puzzler The colour of your flowers is my number one favourite. I have an outfit that reflects those same tones and I intend wearing it on my birthday.
Mr Soop has indeed replished stocks of feline favourites. All we need is, a cat to call. Even so, we love her for her free spirited personality. She knows that we care.

Hellogirl1 We said hello to David en route to Campbeltown.
I know Slapton Sands well. There is a tank beside the beach commemorating the tragedy you mention.

Grandmafrench You are a wizz with words. You put me to shame.

Panache continues to be in our collective thoughts.

Enjoy your trip, Brook. I used to love the song - 'Trains and Boats and Planes'. Who sang it? can anyone remember?

annsixty Keep visiting the kitchen, please. smile

Yesterday's painting was "over-worked". That is a sin. It muddies and ultimately ruins the ideal that I have in mind.

The tennis is on hold because of the rain in London. It be sunny here. Therefore, after lunch, I shall don my arty farty hat and get to work.

I apologise to any Granspal that I have omitted to mention. I assure you that I care about you all.

Doodle Fri 18-Jun-21 14:06:55

Hello all. Will be back to catchup later but for now just want to leave you with this message I’ve received from Panache

* The following is from Panache*

Although I have little time I wanted to let you know what’s happening so you can pass it on to others.

Because someone did not adhere to his semi-liquid diet, two days ago the nurses found MrP unconscious, ashen white and gasping for breath. They had to use a rather painful manoeuvre to assist him and found it was a small morsel of chicken.

He fortunately seems to have recovered with only nasty bruising but it was indeed a close call. So of course, I no longer trust the hospital.

They now say he cannot come home because of his too many complex needs and he needs to be transferred to a nursing home because of course, once again, the very sad point, we have no hospice.

They admit he has been on the end of life pathway since February but because of his fighting back, they have no real idea of what happens next.

What a predicament. An animal would never be left in such a suffering state.
Needless to say I am now totally left voiceless. This is cruelty in its worst form.

I have replied to Panache sending love and best wishes from us all.

Puzzler61 Fri 18-Jun-21 14:30:19

Feet up (not Get up) *soop !

Puzzler61 Fri 18-Jun-21 14:35:55

Oh dear the poor Panache ‘s . What a plight they find themselves in and the news just worsens, but thank you Doodle anyway.
Sending warm wishes to them both. ?

Susan56 Fri 18-Jun-21 14:53:16

Glad that there is hope on the horizon re the drop bot soop.

Sending love, thoughts and prayers to the Panaches.

We have just arrived in West Wales.FIL is very unwell. We had planned to do the journey there and back in one day but our DD has booked us a room at a rather lovely hotel. She knows we always bring an overnight bag just in case..We have just checked in and can see the sea from our window.

We will now go and visit DH’s parents.

TOYA

Jaxjacky Fri 18-Jun-21 14:57:50

Thank you Doodle for the message. I’m lost for words, the situation with the Panache’s is deplorable.
A glimmer for you soop, hopefully not a long wait for your consultation ?. Someone has sunshine! it’s poured here all day and I mean hammered down, just had a brief respite, so I nipped to the butcher’s, but the sky is darkening. Our furniture was delivered earlier and I’m acquainting myself with my new chair, I loved my old squishy one, but it was literally falling to bits. MrJ’s sofa will easily accommodate his occasional snoozes. We’ll be watching the football, me at home, him in the local, my days of drinking for ages have long gone, he has the advantage of relative youth. May the best team win ??????? ??.
Not long now Blossoming……
Catch up later all. X

Grandmafrench Fri 18-Jun-21 15:04:48

Thank you so much Doodle for the update. The emotional cruelty being meted out is mind blowing. If someone has lost or has almost lost their swallow reflex, why would they be given anything at all that might risk such a situation.

And how in God's name can an area not have a Hospice? Surely this must have been brought up endlessly by sufferers and families alike over the years. Families and loved ones should not have to suffer in this way and need to be with skilled and fully trained personnel who give their all to ensure that patients at the end of their lives are safe, pain-free, and cared for 24 hours a day; and that they are with those they love at all times if they choose.

Dear Mr P is not a prisoner and "what happens next" should always be the best possible continuing care. Panache should be able to be fully involved in all decisions on his behalf. Only she knows what he would want. Maybe in turning to Macmillan Nursing support she'd get the the best advice now, especially if she wants him at home. Having that kind of support and someone on hand to deal with the difficulties and ensure that he spends his final weeks at home without the stress and sadness that is being suffered by both of them could be the answer. Someone will at least be on hand to explain and answer all the questions. There's a helpline 7 days a week (8-8pm) and always someone to listen.

0808 808 00 00.

Worth a try speaking to an independent advisor with a wealth of experience? Give Panache my love, please.

soop I am really pleased. It will be worth so much to go to a more Specialist hospital and, if necessary, get the referral you need for possible treatment. Since your particular 'problem' and similar conditions are finally now being acknowledged as a national scandal and for so many, it appears that specialist centres have been created just to deal in up to the minute treatment procedures, which may just be the answer for you. I know you'll go for it. You owe yourself that - and don't forget we are ALL behind you. x (That's supposed to feel like a blessing, by the way ! smile

Have a relaxing afternoon now. All you lovely Kitcheners too.
