Sitting on a beach here having difficulty reading the sunny screen, so do excuse me if the Maths is wrong. But I did notice this RF thread already has nearly 100 posts in a few hours whereas the royal/politics one barely has 40 over a period of 2 days.
I think Chat is the operative word.

Could it be connected to the fact that this one is in Chat, for those of us who like a more lighthearted approach at times? The other thread you mention is, rightly, in News & Politics.

I would be honoured to be asked to a Royal Garden Party, but never will, so the fact that I would immediately be thrown into a tizz wozz about what to wear, getting a train down there, booking a hotel, etc. etc. really is of no consequence.

Alegrias please don't look down on people who enjoy lightweight stuff.
It doesn't mean that we are thick; or don't enjoy more highbrow stuff.

I’ve got an incipient migraine and have to take a poorly cat to the vet in twenty minutes so I’m struggling to have an opinion to add to this thread. Someone tell me what to think, please!

I'm not looking down on anybody Fanny, I apologise if it came across that way. Chatting about baby names is probably more interesting than discussing the constitution, its certainly more fun. But maybe just a wee bit less important? Now someone will come and tell me that GN isn't important, its just fun etc. I should stop talking now.

But as Blossoming has pointed out, it might be expected that a thread in "chat" would have more posts than one in "politics".

I actually wanted to apologise as well for my comment about being asked to start another thread - I just noticed that you welcomed me and another poster further up.

In fact, many of us may have a lot of other things to worry about so a lighthearted thread is a welcome relief.

As others have said there are other more serious threads and posters are welcome to start their own too if something concerns them.

Doriana is the name of DH’s favourite crackers. Usually out of stock on Sainsburys online. I prefer Ryvita thins myself.

Reply for Blossoming. Yes, I would certainly go and I would wear something colourful with a knock-em-dead hat. This would be weather appropriate, of course.

Facts.... I have been to one garden party and one evening reception both related to my husband's work. Furthermore I currently have one garden party credit (this time on my own merit) for this year as last year's was Covid cancelled. Rather think it will be pushed on to next year now. They're frivolous, interesting and fun events. What's not to like?

People have called their children after the place they were conceived- Chelsea- Brooklyn for example. Any idea where the Sussexes were when this happened. It wasn't Frogmore thank goodness. They'd left Toronto I think which wouldn't have been bad. Hollywood?

calendargirl thanks for replying. It would be quite a difficult choice for me. The Queen has been there all my life and while l’m not too keen on Monarchy as an institution or form of government I think she deserves to be treated with respect. I’m used to long train journeys to London, though not for over a year now. I always book assistance as I’m disabled. I’m a shorty and cannot get on and off trains unassisted. I swear the steps are getting higher every year!

Calendargirl Never in a million years did I expect to be invited to a garden party at the palace. I was dragged up in a not very nice part of Birmingham in a violent, abusive household. I have never done anything of consequence (apart from survive it all).
I worked for a government department and they chose someone every now and again to go. I was the longest serving employee at the time so I was chosen. I enjoyed every minute of it despite initial misgivings. I didn't feel 'posh' enough but there were all sorts of people there.
