I think, as they named their son Archie Harrison -- 'Harry's son' -- they should come up with a similar name for their daughter.
Henrietta Meghansgirl? Sounds like a racehorse, I know, but it's all my tired brain could think of.
Meghanslass? Rachelslass? Well, it worked for Good King Wenceslas!!! grin

A nice idea for a thread, but as there are so many different topics it might get confusing. I think there should be a separate forum for Royal Family with the various threads under there. There are so many things to discuss!

I titled the thread Royal Chat, to indicate that that is exactly what it is - chat.

No specific topic, or worse still, argument based binary positions.
Just friendly, companiable meandering discussion.

Having a laugh and maybe learning something along the way (Royalty stuff is full of interesting historical facts).

Disagreements are more than welcome too, and hopefully no-one will start banging on about 'kindness'.
I'm a big fan of being kind, I do it all the time, but it's used too frequently these days to try to shut people up.

That's what I hope anyway - obviously you can do whatever you want! ?

In Iceland your surname is your dad's first name suffixed with either son or dottir.
For example, I'd be Fanny Frederickdottir

They could combine their mother’s’ names and call her Doriana. (Diaria wouldn’t really work though).

How about a Republican joining in?

What do you think of a Head of State that involves him/herself in politics, it's not in their job description, do you agree with it do you mind? Head of State don't do politics.

Queen and Charles. Queen's consent John Major said the queen lobbied him and Charles wrote letters to ministers William will too.

So the monarchy is corrupt which means in public office for private gain which they get away with.

Unaccountable Charles and the Duchy. Should Charles get over £20 million?

The Duchy of Cornwall isn't a private estate. It belongs to the nation. From its profits we pay Prince Charles more than £20m a year, almost as much as all the presidents and prime ministers in the world combined.

Secretive exempt from FOI

Above the law. Andrew

We spend £345 million on this one family Do you think it's money well spent?

Last year the independent group Giving Evidence did a report into the impact royal patrons have on charities. The answer? Pretty much none.

We do not have a written constitution.

Queen as Head of State is pointless and powerless remember prorouge of parliament?

She does not have a role to play can only do as PM asks her.

I know royalists will disagree but we do not have proper democracy Ok had my say.

....AND THE SECOND IN LINE TO THE THRONE HAS PRIVATE MEETINGS WITH FORMER PRIME MINISTERS!!

Sorry, I'm shouting. Its only me that cares......

Right, as you were. Baby names....

Calendargirl Tue 01-Jun-21 12:44:33

I think that Beatrice’s daughter is called Grace

?

But Princess Beatrice’s baby is not due until the autumn,

Is there another Royal Bea? Queen Bea?

Grandma70s Tue 01-Jun-21 12:49:30

Baby names..They might do that American thing of giving a girl a surname as a forename (think Taylor, Harper) and use Windsor or Markle.

Do we know it’s a girl?

Oh - someone in the family recently had a baby called Grace.
I did say that I wasn't sure!

Pippa has recently had a baby called Grace.
Lovely name.

Well, that's not quite true, but I can understand why you think that, I am rather an enthusiastic member of GN.
I don't however understand why you are confused

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Jun-21 13:11:45

Grany NotSpaghetti et al
Why don't you start a republican thread then if you want to?

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Jun-21 13:12:37

Ah - you have! Sorry, sorry, sorry!

Too enthusiastic again...

Alegrias1 Tue 01-Jun-21 13:18:49

Now this is interesting.

Here we have a shiny new Royal discussion thread. All are welcome, it says. All sorts of lovely talk about babies' names.

Couple of posts about republicanism, as positively encouraged in the OP, and there's a suggestion that we start another thread.

hmm....

LauraNorder Tue 01-Jun-21 13:20:52

Sitting having lunch with Orlin in glorious sunshine, suddenly became dark and overcast, the forecast has suddenly changed. Now that is a right royal pain.

Ellianne Tue 01-Jun-21 13:26:54

Sitting on a beach here having difficulty reading the sunny screen, so do excuse me if the Maths is wrong. But I did notice this RF thread already has nearly 100 posts in a few hours whereas the royal/politics one barely has 40 over a period of 2 days.
I think Chat is the operative word.

Blossoming Tue 01-Jun-21 13:27:55

I have 2 questions and am genuinely interested in the replies.

If you were invited to a royal garden party, would you go?

If you decide to go, what would you wear?

I’m a republican so would probably refuse. On the other hand, perhaps I could use the opportunity to promote my views.

Alegrias1 Tue 01-Jun-21 13:28:52

Chat, yes.

Made up baby names are more interesting than the Constitution. Fair enough.

Like I said somewhere else, Bread and Circuses.
