I don’t have a smartphone & don’t want one. Himself has one. He uses the ‘Butler’ app in the bar we go to. The order & payment goes direct to the till apparently. I asked the waitress what would happen without a smartphone? She said she’d serve as and when she could, but if the bar was busy and orders were thick and fast there might be quite a wait.

You can just give your name and address if you don’t have the app.

I love these apps. It’s reducing the risk of Covid and if you’re ordering a meal you don’t need to touch any menus Md you can pay online, too.

I went to one of my regular pubs yesterday. I don’t have a smart phone either, so unable to use the app, but I already knew what I was going to order (always the same!) so just told the manager.
I have a piece of paper with my name and phone number to show on entry - saves faffing about when checking in.
I won’t be getting a smart phone any time soon, either!

There was a recent story on Twitter, some old fella in his local pub sitting bemused as he couldn't order a pint. A younger fella and his chum, orded and paid for a couple for the older man.
But totally agree, not everyone has /wants a Smart Phone, its going to be they way now, including menus via a QR code.

I'm not happy with using an app either, and most pubs and cafes are allowing customers to fill in their details on a form.

We objected to having to pay before we had the meal but we were told it was just the same as ordering anything on line where you have to pay for goods at the point of ordering.I don't think it is the same thing at all.

Use it all the time to check in on QR code from NHS Covid app, also has my two vaccinations registered. Other apps used to order food, drinks and view menu. Less contact than bits of paper, pens etc and as it seems the way things are going, I’ll go with it. It allows track and trace to a degree too.
However, most reasonable places will allow paper as they are obliged to register their clients.

Last week we were shown into a riverside bar. We were shown to a table and duly sat and waited. After a while the waitress asked why we hadn’t ordered. We said no one had asked us. Again we’re told we needed to use an app. Felt really daft sat there waiting. Waitress did say she’d sort out a table service but we’d have to pay cash. We were so fed up by then we left. Over dramatic I know but we just wanted a quick lager.

Had this last September, had to download an app to book a table, then order off the online menu.
A real fiddle but service was quick and efficient, extra drinks and dessert, again, order on the app

We have been away on holiday lucky we took our grown up kids and grandchildren with us Our son and daughter sorted out the apps
My husbands local has a much more user friendly idea they have a wood spoon that you stand up when you want serving with the letters MBPM which apparently stands for more beer please mush

The staff at my local seem more than happy for me not to use the wretched thing. I have used it to check which draught beers are available - saves time when ordering face to face.

Exactly Polarbear I don’t have a smart phone - I have an ancient mobile phone which I love. I do have an iPad but I chose to have one which I can only access on WiFi. We were however talking today about maybe I should get one as suddenly it seems that proof you have had the vaccine etc and results of tests are sent phones/email which you need to access when travelling.
I can sort it understand it but still prefer to have a piece of paper in my hand!

I don't have/don't want a smart phone, so can't do any apps. Life's getting complicated grin

I’m increasingly fed up that it seems every time I want to go in a pub or restaurant lately I’m asked to use an app to order. We went walking today and just wanted a couple of halves in the beer garden at the end of the walk. Need an app to order she says. We walked out. I know I’m being a grumpy old woman but really!?!? What if you don’t have a smart phone ??
