Good Morning, Friday on behalf of Mick/Mawbe
(72 Posts)Good morning to one and all from a rather humid Torbay with a temperature of 16 degrees already but no sun. ?
From tomorrow, I’m spending a couple of nights at my holiday home near Okehampton with my bubble mate whose cat had to be PTS on Wednesday. Poor girl had spent over £1k on vet fees, trying to help the poor little moggy?⬛. We are hoping the sunny forecast is proved accurate. I had planned to be away for longer but she only wants two nights away from home, which is understandable. This will require a visit to Lidl this morning so that I’m prepared for company!
Every good wish to those in pain and happy weekend to you all! ?☀️?
Grey skies but no rain in the forecast so I have DH’s quilted bedspread in the washing machine dealing with the bloodstains caused by his fall the night before last. He had a better night last night but I woke every hour waiting for the disaster which didn’t happen.
I have a trip to the dental hygienist shortly and then we have a visit from the chiropodist. May do the Tesco run but that could wait until tomorrow.
Good to see visits planned - Marydoll and Stilllearning - and indications that life is returning to some sort of normal.
Morning All. Grey and drizzly in our corner of Somerset. Anyone with sunshine to spare please direct it this way.
Eventually wandered out yesterday, enjoyed lunch in a garden centre before a sunny walk by the sea. Had planned some planting today, see if the drizzle clears. Need to excavate the guest bed, somehow it’s been covered in ‘stuff’. How does that happen?
Pleased you’re out of hospital alizarin. Pleased your husband is improving harri if saddened there has been no hands on care. Sound advice from jax about gas grammaretto, not worth the risk. Enjoy the break ashcombe, I can imagine your excitement marydoll, enjoy every minute. Good luck stilllearning, I know you’ll be fine. Safe journeys to all travelling.
Have as good a day as you can everyone. Hope Friday is kind to us all.
Well said Jaxjacky - I have also PM’d her - gas smells should not be taken lightly!
Good morning all from a sunny start to the day here on the east coast of Fife. I hear the usual rattle coming from the roof tiles and yet the man was repairing the roof on Tuesday hells bells is it still needing attended to. Yesterday was a good day for me after himself changed the duvet for a lighter one. It’s made such a difference to my sleep.Marydoll if Mick has an Apple tablet of sorts I would suggest he makes an appointment at his nearest Apple shop they’ve got whiz experts who sort out computer problems in seconds. I went to one where they were most helpful a man stood at the entrance with his gun thermometer ensuring safety measures were in place.
Yesterday I had such a lovely catch up with an old colleague where we put the world to rights. My hairdresser also came to do my hair.
Me and himself are going to take a flow test today I received 7 in the post. Only because we’re having our grandchildren to visit soon and we don’t want to be carriers. they are so precious to us. I’m looking forward to getting my long overdue boasies aka cuddles as they say in Aberdeen ?
I’ve decided not to go to a funeral on Wednesday it was kind of the daughter to invite me and dh. But as there’s been a spike in that town I’m just going to ask her to invite a close friend (I wasn’t so close) who she’ll probably appreciate more than me to the funeral.
Hope Nicola doesn’t put Fife into tier 2
but if we have to we have to just because of silly folks gathering to see a snooker final. Sorry I wouldn’t give that the time of day. Everyone to their own eh.
Have a good weekend everyone be safe and be kind to your fellow man we all deserve a little kindness
Grammaretto ring * 0800 111 99* and open the windows/doors.
Ash enjoy your weekend away with your friend.
And a reminder for all, because I know you might have forgotten…the Euros start tonight ???
Our Yorkshire Lass dubbed her nephew and niece ‘the smalls’ of the family and I like it!
??
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
urmstongran minding the stalls brings up images of you minding the underwear drawer!!! ??
Morning from S Lanarkshire, it’s been raining but dry now and looks less windy at the moment.
I do hope this continues and the sun makes some appearance as I am off to the seaside for an overnight visit to a friend who moved to the coast just after lockdown was lifted last year.
Furthest I have driven for a long time into ‘unkent’territory and I must confess to being a bit nervous.
I have not told any of my offspring I am going as I do not want a series of lectures/ warnings/ advice!
Wishing myself a safe journey and everyone else a good day ?
Morning Mick and all, thank you Ashcombe for opening up!
Marydoll we had our French doors replaced on Tuesday, ease of opening is bliss!
Pleased you are out of hospital Alizarin , Sar53 have a good shopping day with your DD, especially your champagne lunch ?
We have the imp today, so a walk is on the cards, then this evening we are going to our friends Gastro Pub with another couple (known them for many years) so looking forward to catching up in person.
Keep safe and well folks ?♀️?
Two youngest grandchildren for tea today
I hope you won’t find them too chewy Grandmajean!
??
Good morning everyone from south Manchester. Like you Ashcombe our weather is warm at 17°C now but we have dark clouds forming. Rain is forecast this morning then brighter this afternoon. Enjoy your 2 day break in your caravan - the weekend weather is amazingly hot (apparently).
I read that book last summer during our Spanish lockdown Maw it’s a powerful read. I’m reading a non-fiction at present ‘The Book About Getting Older - for people who don’t want to talk about it’ by Dr Lucy Pollock, who is a consultant geriatrician. It got rave reviews and I was curious. So far I’m pleasantly surprised at her upbeat yet sensible take on ‘old age’.
No plans for us until 4pm when, as last Friday, we will mind the smalls whilst their parents go out for a couple of drinks alone (bliss, they say!) and a meal. Himself will take the boy wonder to cricket practice in the grammar school grounds round the corner so that will swallow up a couple of hours. Doubtless I shall be playing Barbies with l’il miss before I bath her and tuck her up in bed. She goes to bed without a peep which is a novelty compared to her brother at this age!
Enjoy Friday those who can. All who are struggling are in my thoughts. x
Good morning from Cheshire - where's the sun ?
Two youngest grandchildren for tea today. There is a Covid case in their school so DS is going to test them both before I pick them up.
The best day possible to all. Will read posts later.
Good morning Ash and everyone from a wild and windy Scottish Borders. I knew that heat wouldn't last.
I'm blaming it on the eclipse.
Your poor DD Marydoll the Pentland Firth can be is usually choppy.
Off to get more paint today. But first I must do something about a possible gas leak. A friend came inside for a cuppa and smelled gas in the kitchen. I didn't but I am probably desensitised. I don't spend much time in the kitchen so it's not urgent - or is it. Who do I call?
I am glad to hear you are recovering from the op Alizarin I hope someone is looking after you.
My advice harrigran is let her help if she wants to.
How lovely Sar53 being with your girls. A precious time.
I still miss Gillybob's Friday girl.
Enjoy your weekend away Ash
Good morning Ash,Mick and all from Shropshire. The sun is trying to break through the clouds and there is a strong breeze so not the promised heatwave!
Goodness baubles that’s a long journey. We drive 60 miles to look after our DGS and that can seem like a long journey home.
Another Henry day.DGD has a play date after school so no school pick up today.
We have arranged a couple of meet ups with friends and another couple of days away. The calendar is no longer empty. For so long all we have had on there are the children’s initials the days we are minding them.I am looking forward to getting out and about but still feel a bit nervous?
Glad you are home Alizarin and harri glad the antibiotics are starting to work.
Thinking of Cherry and hoping she is recovering and resting and that we hear from her soon???
Enjoy your weekends away Ash and Mary.
Thinking of Ellan and all our absent friends?all who are unwell, recovering, worried or anxious?
Have a good day all??
Good morning everyone! Suffolk is overcast with a cool breeze but yesterday began like this and was cloudless later. I am up early again to get into the garden. The down side was yesterday afternoon spent on the sofa with my leg elevated because my knee was unhappy.
I’m glad you had a good day yesterday Marydoll and do enjoy your weekend of shopping!
Hope MrH continues to improve, although some professional care would be a bonus.
We have some new friends for the village dropping in for a cuppa this afternoon - I am determined that DH will get to know people! We are now getting two DGC for tea and a sleepover too. DGS always sneaks downstairs when his sister is asleep and we are teaching him about rugby by watching the Friday night match.
Keep your eyes peeled for flamingos! I hope the day is kind to everyone.
Good morning all from an overcast S Hants, I slept in as I’m back to wearing my eye mask, first time I’ve got up to an empty house for months as MrJ has left for work. Thanks for opening Ashcombe. Enjoy Pitlochry Marydoll, how annoying with your new glasses.
I’m taking my friend out to lunch later, straight after my nose is being cauterised, then Asda are delivering. kitty yes, our local is on reduced hours with a 10pm close, we’re in the 5-7’ish ‘club’.
Pleased Alizarin is out, awaiting news from others missing. Harrigran two weeks with no support is really not good enough.
Have a pleasant day all, those with troubles some respite and some ? with ???for us all.
Good morning from a warm but overcast Colchester. Hot again today.
We had too much cloud to see the eclipse but the birds went eerily quiet for a while yesterday morning.
Weekend shopping and an appointment with a bathroom designer today.
Big hugs for all x
Good morning from a sunny village just outside Ely where we are in our caravan.
We think we’ll find a boat trip and have a wander along the river. Then a leisurely lunch somewhere.
DD2 will join us late afternoon.
Hoping for fast healing for those who have had op’s or been ill and kind thoughts for all with worries and troubles and that you all find a smile along the way.

I have messaged GNHQ to ask them to offer some support to Mick.
Thanks for opening up Ash and enjoy your weekend away
It’s another warm bright start in Inverness today, so we’re off for a walk in the hills somewhere but I’m popping in to see DD2 first to see how she is
Have a wonderful trip to Pitlochry marydoll and enjoy the House of Bruar en route - you lucky lady! I hope your DD and SiL arrive safely and the crossing wasn’t too bad
Yesterday’s trip to the dentist was better than expected, I’d starting with a bit of sensitivity on one particular tooth and had worried that all sort of treatment might be required. But he checked it out and said all was well! When I asked what type of sensitive toothpaste was best to buy he wrote me a prescription for some toothpaste to try that you can’t buy over the counter. Let’s see if it helps
Another busy day for you dwm or aka supergran
Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings ?
Morning all from another misty morning here on the south coast. If it is like yesterday, the sun will come out later but it was too late for us to see the eclipse through the thick cloud layer.
DH is leading a group of riders from his bike club, to Hamble and Warsash today. which will involve two ferries and some beautiful coastal scenery. He has the route all planned. I plan to potter and enjoy the garden and some
solitude. We also have some deliveries arriving so I will be available for those.
Sending kindest thoughts to all those finding life hard.
