Good Evening Thursday;
Just had a very entertaining walk along Hadrian’s Wall with Robson Green.
He has reached the end of the 80 mile walk and it was full of interest. We inspected the production of the Cumberland sausage; might go well with Vegemite!; as you probably know, Cumberland is now called Cumbria;
We also inspected emoji-type symbols scratched into the stone wall by the Romans which a party of girls deciphered for us, then Rob finished off with a flight in a micro 2-seater helicopter Marvellous views, but not for me!
That storm in the Dandenong Ranges last week caused more damage than first thought, although that was bad enough!. Power Co. engineers talking of putting in a totally new power supply system; Underground too expensive!
Over 3,000 people will remain without power for several weeks and now the major electricity supply generator is in danger of failing if a dam retaining wall should give way!
That will take out 25% of the State's supply.
As they say, “It never rains but it pours!”

Having some success with picture-posting. Now comes the tricky bit of getting the pics onto the desktop, but it’s good mental therapy especially when practised indoors when it’s too cold to be digging the vegie patch!

Marvellous things computers! Self diagnosis tells me I’m going down with tenosynevitis of the left fore-arm. I only got as far as typing “teno” into Dr,Google and up pops “tenosynevitis”
Now wish I hadn’t broken my golden rule!
Wasn’t caused by digging the vegie patch; nor playing tennis; just suddenly happened! Possibly Old Age! sad
Good Health wine wine wine

Hi Rufus, mention of your weather I just saw this picture of the spider webs making a spectacular appearance in Gippsland, very spooky. We had some rain overnight, but no storms, boo, it’s still a bit clammy, more rain coming. Non sports people won’t be happy with TV this afternoon, football, tennis or Royal Ascot across three of the main channels, football in this house. The big game tomorrow evening, it’ll be a busy night for venues showing the game. Hope your ‘itis’ improves ?
Take care ?

Grr

Aveline Thu 17-Jun-21 15:17:15

True enough - too much sport for people to sit about watching rather than actually playing! Rufus2 what was your sport? Cricket? Lacrosse?
Humid here but forecast for rain soon. Suits me.

Rufus, in my student days, I walked parts of Hadrian's wall on a number of occasions. It was pretty baltic to say the least!!!

Good evening all, I love Hadrian’s Wall country, it was one of our favourite places for walking. I was planning on doing the full coast to coast walk before fate stopped me in my tracks.

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Jun-21 15:59:24

My Latin teacher took us on a trip to Hadrian's wall in the early 70s. I loved the sense of history but agree with Marydoll. It was so cold and windy! I live very near to Antonines wall which isn't as well preserved.

Rufus2 Thu 17-Jun-21 16:09:39

It was pretty baltic to say the least!!!
Marydoll OK! Just in case I put my foot in it again I consulted Dr Google and what do you know!?
He identified "baltic" as being a Glasgow term (note the correct spelling!) for "frozen"!, but he didn't mention any particular adjectives preceding. hmm
And I always thought the wall was built by Hadrian to keep out the Barbarians!
He'd have a fit if he knew people actually walked on it! grin
We live and learn!
Keep warm there in Glasgow!
Good Health

Rufus, you are learning! wink

De Quervain's tenosynovitis was one of the reasons, I had to retire on ill health grounds. Excrutiatingly painful, to say the least! I hope I have misunderstood your post and you don't have that.

Rufus2 Thu 17-Jun-21 17:04:34

Rufus2 what was your sport? Cricket? Lacrosse?
Aveline Just on my way to bed, but couldn't pass up an opportunity to outline my sporting career starting with Rugby, (Union, of course) , Soccer, Cricket, Darts, Snooker followed by marriage followed by darts, dominoes, Crib mainly against Father-in-Law and finally concluding with Lawn Bowls.
Unfortunately my trophy cabinet is not exactly what it was because my darts hand tends to drop things nowadays!
I don't know why! grin
That's just a brief outline.
How about you!?
Good Night!

Aveline Thu 17-Jun-21 17:21:01

Night night. I was a fencer ?

Megs36 Thu 17-Jun-21 19:17:17

HelloRufus, had a smile when you mentioned darts! Every night here at 11 ish there are rereuns of Bulls Eye on Challenge ( must be40 years old) it’s our last watch with our Horlicks!!
I guess you might, like us,have watched it first time round??
Little things please little minds.
Cheers ????????

Evening Rufus, I hope they can do something short-term about the power supply but this sounds like a major re-think is needed ' wind turbines or other alternative sources perhaps?

mention of your weather I just saw this picture of the spider webs making a spectacular appearance in Gippsland, very spooky
I just had a look, Jaxjacky - very spooky.
Gippsland makes me think of yogurt, not spiders, Gippsland yogurt is lovely.

Netball and tennis here (if I can remember that far back).
Someone I know was a champion bowls player, Rufus, could have played for Australia if running a business hadn't got in the way.

Jaxjacky Thu 17-Jun-21 20:05:03

Callistemon yet again photo wouldn’t post…sigh..I’ll try now.

Callistemon yet again photo wouldn’t post…sigh..I’ll try now.

I googled it, Jaxjacky - very weird indeed.

I'll try now

Aveline Thu 17-Jun-21 20:45:33

Wow. Seriously hard work by spiders. Creepy somehow.

Jaxjacky Thu 17-Jun-21 20:50:10

Thank you Callistemon for the picture, so frustrating mine don’t work.
I’ll happily remove, by hand, the odd spider in our house, this spider stuff is a different ball game….

Ashcombe Thu 17-Jun-21 21:06:54

Jaxjacky: try reducing the size. After selecting your photo, click on ACTUAL SIZE and you should be offered four options. I usually opt for medium.

Evening Rufus very late tonight. You really were a good all round sportsman back in the day.
Goodnight

Rufus2 Fri 18-Jun-21 14:47:47

Rufus, you are learning! wink
De Quervain's tenosynovitis was one of the reasons, I had to retire on ill health
Marydoll Thank you! It all depends on how good, and patient, the teacher is of course! smile
I do hope you don't still suffer too much because it can be excruciating apart from being immobilising!
Dr.Google (again) q.v. tells me that your form of teno involves the thumb and the palm; even mentions a "Finkelstein" test, would you believe!? and is caused by repetitive use of the hand such as "carrying shopping bags" or "lifting children in and out of car seats!
Find that hard to believe! In that case half our members would be casualties! hmm
More likely caused by constant use of modern equipment involving typing or such-like! Otherwise known as RSI.
Glad to say my forearm is much easier today, but I now operate taps and door handles very cautiously.
That's something else I've learned today! grin
Good Health

Marydoll Fri 18-Jun-21 15:17:42

I can assure you, I was renowned in teaching circles! ? My condition was caused by my RA and aggravated by my job. Had it for over twenty years, not as painful now, thank goodness. Good health to you too!

Jaxjacky Fri 18-Jun-21 15:28:21

Just seen that advice Ashcombe thank you. I’ll try with something now…sorry Rufus.

Jaxjacky Fri 18-Jun-21 15:28:46

Ta da.. ??
