That is really sad Emily, do you think it was for scrap, or might it turn up on eBay? It looks very unusual, at first glance I thought it was an elephant, then a flying saucer, but then I saw the snail shell on the top! Perhaps you can enlighten us?

EmilyHarburn Fri 18-Jun-21 15:56:01

Not the best day for us. Woke up to find a metal garden sculpture we commissioned from an arts student has been stolen. Presumably for scrap value.

Thank goodness for lunch breaks.

2nd good morning from sunny Cornwall. Had a long read of all posts whilst waiting for MrM to sit down too.

Steady does it Mick. Hope the TV keep you pinned down and engrossed. With with other about GP.

Nannagarra I have my eyes peeled for a kite. One spotted locally and made the news and apparently they have been spotted close to us. Your photo wow

Will there be a photo of your creativity Beechnut? Love seeing everyone's crafts.

Jax Sounds like the rumblings and aches have ceased. Glad you've had some of the wet stuff for your new plants.

Grandmafrench Updated photo attached - taken at 8:00am. MrM has had to put a longer ladder down the abyss. I'm dumbfounded at how much these 2 men have done in 4 days.

As I read through the post and make notes, I see more rain mentioned. Fingers crossed a little will arrive here tomorrow - no weekend digging

Ali. Are you staple free now?

Sars53 Well done GD. Does she have a favourite author?

harrigran Two lots of good wishes: DD can stay longer by your side and the other for DH. Hope he copes with the injections.

Safe journey susan

Lins1066 Thank you for the grass seed information. Mya has been scratching her ear to the point of rawness. Vet saw nothing yesterday "clean as a whistle" but now I wonder.

Love the photo Maw. I miss mine too. Lost her to the dreaded dementia 15 years ago.

Yummy Yorkshire Pud photo B9. Well done. Must plant goosegogs next year. Very fond of sharp fruits. Rhubarb tart this weekend.

Hearing aids are getting a mention today. Must put mine in before I sit down for food with MrM. My excuse is, they hurt my ears when wearing ear defenders. Have them on this morning ?

Phew - lots of news today to catch up with. The hunger pangs are growing.

Had an upset of sorts yesterday. Almost ready to set off to see a new kennel with Mya. Lady rang to say that she'd turned a lady away who was dropping off her dog. It hadn't an up to date dog cough vaccination. Was Mya up to date? Quick ring to the vet. No. She should have had it when I took her in the other jab last December. Apologies from them? So it was a visit to the vet and not the kennel. Mentioned her ear. Recommended E45 cream. Surprised but am trying it. These grass seeds do worry me.

Building control have passed first part of the drainage.?Infill now starts. Part two in a week's time when the 2 massive tanks are in place.

I started this nearly two hours ago. Still not had lunch as I had to break off to get on to building supplies for a long list of materials needed asap.

Bound to be loads of errors in this post. It's not getting a read through. I'm starving.

Enjoy the rain or sun. Take care and tread carefully everyone.

Good morning Mick and all from hot, hot and humid Lueneburg. 33° at moment, could be up to 36°later. I could do with granmafrench's swimming pool. Marydoll, yes it can be very hot and humid here - as you know. I have been shopping, but from now on, I am just chilling. I shall read all your mails later. Lots of people are spending the weekend at the Baltic sea - I wouldn`t like the traffic to get there. Even though we need the rain - 30 % of the trees or there about are suffering from the luck of water - I am quite happy with this weather. Especially as we can`t go on holiday.
Have a good day all.

Lins1066 Fri 18-Jun-21 11:23:22

Maw and Alizarin ?? so true about the end of childhood, the safety net's gone.

Naninka Fri 18-Jun-21 11:16:08

Good morning from Market Harborough, Leicestershire. Currently raining but lots to look forward to. I retire in less than a month. We have a new GD due the same week - DGC no 5. And a new extension being built imminently. Very exciting.
The lift of the ban means that we are now able to mix with siblings and partners too - I'm one of 5 and my DH is one of four.
All in all... happy days!
Sending everyone else positive vibes! xx

Dwmxwg Fri 18-Jun-21 10:20:50

DGS1 “granny does too much lemon juice make you crazy?”
Me “no, why?”
DGS1 “think I had too much on my pancakes”
5 minutes later see photo ?

Elizabeth1

Good morning from a sunny (do I feel a nip in the air?) east coast of Fife I’m getting excited for the day ahead, an early lunch with friends in the beautiful town of st Andrews however it’s debatable whether it’ll be inside or outside, followed by a good nap getting ready for that important football game on tv where no doubt I’ll be hearing himself cursing swearing and shouting from afar. shockThe flags outside the house should get many aroused. wink

Have a really lovely day Elizabeth

lavenderzen Fri 18-Jun-21 10:08:00

What a lovely picture of your Mum Maw.

Megs36 Fri 18-Jun-21 10:02:30

Morning all, Marydoll had a smile (grimace’) about your husband’s denial about being deaf, mine insists it’s me turning away when I speak or having the telly on too loud….despite me repeating things over and over.
Our grandsons imminent wedding in two weeks is still on but lots of rearranging, masks, a marquee, social distancing, oh dear. I hope we still get there. Already postponed from last year as many others are.

MawBe Fri 18-Jun-21 09:45:39

So right about the end of childhood - plus the uncomfortable feeling of losing the “cushion” the generation above us provided against our mortality.
Rosie also attempted to squeeze under the sofa yesterday evening chasing a spider. The sofa does not have legs just the approx 2” clearance of the castors, but she got the tip of her nose in and wasn’t giving up.

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 18-Jun-21 09:35:27

Good morning everyone. Scottish Borders currently sunny and blue skyed. Wash done, breakfast dishes away, bathroom next and then physio. Desert Island Discs keeping me company. Watched great broadcast ( not sure if correct word) from British Museum last night. Curators of the Thomas Beckett exhibition showed us round the various artefacts and narrated his story. Great to be taken out of my head and house. Have become very insular. Think the programme is available on You Tube. Have a good Friday.

Grandmafrench Fri 18-Jun-21 09:01:18

What a super photo of your Mum, Maw. We’ll always miss them. I lost mine 2 years ago tomorrow at a great age, but it still hurts. A Psychiatrist friend of mine always says that’s the last little bit of childhood!

Could you ask dear Rosie to contact Alizarin? I feel compelled to put her in touch for all under-bed retrieval jobs that A can’t cope with yet, due to a new hip. This could be Rosie’s chance to get out of bed … and shine! smile

B9exchange Fri 18-Jun-21 08:57:57

It is chucking it down here in SW Herts too, DH moaning because he wanted to cut the grass and do the hedges before the invasion starts tomorrow.

Ash your fresh plaice lunch sounds amazing!. Grandmafrench I’m glad you enjoyed your get together lunch.
Sar congrats to your little GD. You must all be so proud.
Baubles sympathy on the hearing aid problems, DH wears his when he remembers, but after having them for many years, I am not sure they make that much difference. Of course it is all just down to me mumbling... sound familiar? grin

The gluten and dairy free crumble has turned out to be a gooseberry upside down cake as I though something cold would be less hassle. Still to do the trifle for Sunday, now do I make the whole thing gluten and dairy free, or a separate one for DS1?

Still missing a cat sitter for our trip to Scotland in two weeks, just had a 'ping' from a possible, have to go. Keep dry everyone!

Alizarin Fri 18-Jun-21 08:52:26

It would have been my mum's birthday yesterday too. A popular day!

Anniebach Fri 18-Jun-21 08:51:09

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

MawBe Fri 18-Jun-21 08:45:23

Good morning everybody, this says it all about the weather here in N Bucks this morning.
A lovely lunch (but inside although with the patio doors open ) with my daughter’s in-laws yesterday. As always the time flew past but once I’d cleared up I could settle down to the tennis knowing I had the leftovers for supper, so no further action was required.
It was also my Mother’s birthday Lins1066 she was born in 1919 and died in 1996. How we miss them!
The garden will no doubt benefit from its drenching, what a good thing I got the grass cut, front and back on Wednesday, despite the heat.
With thoughts for all with worries or health issues, I hope you all have a pleasant day (and that it stops raining - enough already!)

ginny Fri 18-Jun-21 08:43:55

Good morning.
I’m late getting going today so will read all your news later.
We have rain which looks set in for a while.
Lunch with DD1 today and a quick call into a big supermarket to track down some tins of haricot beans.
Feeling concerned about DD2. She had to go into her office on Wednesday ( normally works from home) and yesterday morning was told that one one her colleagues had tested positive for convid.
She now has to test and isolate for 10 days. She’s sad as a Father’s day outing was planned with her two sisters and a long awaited trip to Bath with a friend have had to be cancelled.
Hopefully she will not succumb to the virus.
Thinking of our missing posters and sending wishes to all who are poorly or troubled.
Hope you all find a smile today.

BlueSapphire Fri 18-Jun-21 08:34:31

Good morning everyone from a very wet Northampton where it is chucking it down, and definitely very much cooler.

We managed our evening walk yesterday in the dry, and just two of us went to the pub afterwards. There was a very loud group on a table near us which worried us; we probably wouldn't have noticed them had they been quiet. They weren't much bothered about masks when they got up and left either. Pouring with rain when we left and quite chilly.

DD texted later on when I had got home and asked if I'd like to go to them this weekend, so she will pick me up this evening after her riding lesson, which is at a stables near me. It will be nice to have the company for the weekend, as Saturday and Sunday seem to go on forever when I'm on my own.

A quick tidy round today before I go, and remember to pack my knitting!

Wishing all a pleasant day whatever the weather.

cornergran Fri 18-Jun-21 08:30:57

Morning Mick, morning All. An overcast start to the day in our corner of Somerset.

Two very enjoyable if tiring days over the bridge, it was a first social outing for the friends we met yesterday, I’m not sure if they were excited or terrified. grin. If the system cooperates I’ll attach a couple of photos from the gardens we visited.

A trip to Waitrose this morning then generally catching up this afternoon while the machine deals with the laundry.

Step away from anything resembling a gun marydoll, if it’s any consolation similar havoc is a regular occurrence here.

Hope Friday is kind to us all.

Lins1066 Fri 18-Jun-21 08:29:00

Similar hearing aid experiences here with late MIL baubles and Gingster, her TV volume control was on 64! Good thing they were detatched.
When we pleaded with her to wear them she used to say firmly " I WILL put them in - after lunch" ?

Oldbutstilluseful Fri 18-Jun-21 08:26:42

Good morning from a very wet and much cooler North Hants. At least I’ll have some energy for pottering as the heat reduces me to a completely useless article.
The older I get the more I put things down and they somehow move themselves to somewhere else! My daughter introduced me to the Find my phone app when I ‘lost’ mine. She pinpointed it to the car, where it had slid down the driver’s seat!
Love the photos Ashcombe it’s good to treat ourselves isn’t it? In fact, I really enjoy all the photos everyone shares, proof that life does go on.
I hope everyone has as good a day as possible. I think I’ll treat myself to a walk in the rain ☔️

baubles Fri 18-Jun-21 08:18:12

Haha Grandmabatty and Marydoll I had a conversation with the eight year old DGD the other day about the word thrawn. She of course had never heard of it but had the grace to admit that at times it described her perfectly. grin

Lins1066 Fri 18-Jun-21 08:17:48

Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy but bright S Welsh coast, no rain forecast here though the garden could do with some.
Lovely photos Ash I saw lots of foxgloves yesterday out in the countryside when we took flowers to my mother's grave, it would have been her birthday yesterday.
Have a safe journey Susan, I will give you a big wave across the estuary, Sam hails from there. He went back to the vet yesterday as he was shaking his head and scratching. The vet extracted two huge grass seeds from his left ear. Apparently they were so excited to find them and get them out, they took a picture of them alongside a proudly sitting Sam. The vet is going to post it on their Facebook page, he is going to be the face of their dangers of grass seed awareness campaign. ??
Will phone the butcher shortly, I think we will have a roast on Sunday after several weeks of BBQ's. Hoping for a quieter day today and thinking of our missing Friday girl.
Have a pleasant day everyone.

Gingster Fri 18-Jun-21 08:12:51

Good morning all from a very soggy Suffolk Coast. We had downpours of biblical proportions yesterday. Dh was stuck in the shed for an hour before the rain eased and he could get back in to the house. The lanes were flooded and the beach paths were like lakes. What a difference from the hot weather we’ve had for the last 3 weeks.

We have friends arriving for coffee early on, as they have to be out if their rented (fabulous) house by 10.. we’ll probably sit in the summerhouse and watch the sea and the weather from there.

DS2 is staying at our house in Essex and working from there for a couple of days. He’s meeting up with old pals to watch the footie tonight, in a pre-booked pub garden. It’s going to be raining and stormy, so I don’t know how that will work. I might suggest they all go back to ours and watch it there. Not so much atmosphere though!

Baubles - my DH got hearing aids about 2 months ago, after a couple of years of pleas from me and the family to get tested. All on the NHS and he arrived back home with them fitted. I was so excited and pleased. His first words to me were ‘those damn birds are making a racket’ ?. After a few days of fiddling with them, whistling and turning them up and down, they now sit in their case and haven’t been used. ?. So frustrating!

Ash your lunch sounds delicious. Mmmm!
Grandmafrench I’m glad you enjoyed your get together lunch.
Sar well done to your little gd. How lovely !
Grannygravy enjoy your Thai meal this evening. I love Thai, so please let me know which one it is.

Safe journey to all going on their hols. Have a great time away.

Best wishes to all ♥️
