Sorry Jaxjacky, I see what you mean now. If others did hug him we didn’t see them on TV doing it anyway, whereas these two were caught on camera, so there was no choice.

I and my family have obeyed every single Covid restriction for 15 months and to be totally honest after the last week, G7, Ascot, Football fans travelling here there and everywhere, etc. I am done!!!!

I think I am going to organise a family get together call it a demonstration and hug every single one of them (all adults have been vaccinated) ?????

Casdon, GG13 was querying why only the two English players have to isolate, not both teams…because the two hugged Billy, my assumption is the rest of the teams members didn’t hug him. I think we’re in agreement!

Casdon Mon 21-Jun-21 20:42:59

They did Jaxjacky

There were also a raft of instructions in my DDs office. Masks, distancing, and I’m pretty sure they were not hugging each other !

Jaxjacky Mon 21-Jun-21 20:38:44

Granny Gravy13 I assume, dangerous word, they didn’t hug him.

Marydoll Mon 21-Jun-21 20:38:32

I agree, GrannyGravy. Do footballers think theCovid advice doesn't apply to them.
Why on earth were the English players hugging Ian Gilmour (or vice versa) in the first place?
Also if the Scottish team were in a bubble, how did Ian Gilmour catch Covid?

It makes a mockery of everything we have been asked to do. I shielded for well over a year as I was advised to do. I still haven't a hug from my DGD as she was shielding too, yet these idiots can do whatever they like.

There’s a raft of FA rules for changing rooms to allow players to socially distance, so that isn’t an issue for team mates. Players only need to self isolate if they touch and hug each other, so one would assume that the other players didn’t do that, just the two who are self isolating. They aren’t being singled out, they were shown on the news to be hugging Gilmour at the end of the game.

Jaxjacky

Interesting as there is rumour that those people double vaccinated may not need to isolate for 10 days if tested daily, maybe footballers are being used as a testing ground for this proposal?

Maybe, but if so why are the two English players being singled out and not the Scottish team who share a dressing room with Mr.Gilmour ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 21-Jun-21 20:23:03

Totally ridiculous !!

If one child in a bubble of three classes tests positive all three classes in that bubble are sent home to self isolate.

If I get bleeped by the Covid app, because someone in the pub garden I was in tests positive, I have to isolate.

I am a football fan, but this makes a complete mockery of Covid restrictions, obviously both teams need to isolate.

It should be the same for all of the population regardless of profession, including the G7 shenanigans.

Wether they are being tested or not the fact still remains that they have all been in contact with those who have tested positive.
They may be outside( although I can’t believe they all had separate changing rooms) but if I eat at an outside table at a restaurant and someone on the next table who I had nothing to do with, is found to be positive the next day I would be expected to isolate.

Casdon Mon 21-Jun-21 19:46:21

According to the news They are all tested regularly, but Mount and Chilwell hugged Gilmour straight after the match, whilst still on the pitch, that’s why they are self isolating.

Chardy Mon 21-Jun-21 19:43:09

I would be surprised if they're not being tested daily, or at least every match day,
Scotland played Friday, and will play tomorrow, Tuesday. (It was announced Gilmour had tested positive this morning, so he was tested sometime between Friday night and Monday morning.)

Marydoll Mon 21-Jun-21 19:27:35

England players Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount are isolating after interaction with him, the Football Association has announced.

Riverwalk Mon 21-Jun-21 19:20:06

Only Gilmour has tested positive as far as I know.

Presumably the others don't have to isolate as the event was outdoors.

Kali2 Mon 21-Jun-21 19:15:48

hear hear.

Sarnia Mon 21-Jun-21 19:10:55

I am with you here. Billy Gilmour who played in the England v Scotland match on Friday evening came into contact with everyone on the pitch including the officials plus several others off the pitch. Surely they should all be isolating. I love football but I think holding the Euros this year was a mistake which may come back to bite us.

ginny Mon 21-Jun-21 19:04:58

How is it that only a few footballers in the Scottish and England teams are having to isolate after several have been tested positive for Covid .
Surely both teams plus trainers, and managers , physios etc should have to as well.
One of my Dds was in a work meeting last week. Next day one of the participants tested positive. She and 10 other colleagues are having to isolate for ten days. She has missed meeting up with a friend she hasn’t been able to see for almost 2 years, missed a family celebration and next weekend a long awaited holiday. She also lives on her own so will see nobody.
She knows she is doing the right thing but is spitting feathers about the different rules just because somebody kicks a ball around a field.
