Celebs That You Rather Like, Actually?

Hello Everyone! ?

As a companion thread to nanna8's 'irrational dislikes on sight'.

Who, in the public eye, do you think comes across as rather a good egg?

Extra points if the celeb in question is usually found in the other camp
(is there anyone out there who actually likes Schofield or Holden??)

For me, it's Rylan Clarke-Neal.
I think that he is a TV natural, and he seems really warm and friendly.
I'd really like to be his mate.

So, which Celebs do you have a soft spot for, and why?

Thank you!

I don't think Monty has the wow factor, Bluebelle, he just seems like a very pleasant and kind man.

BlueBelle

Shapa corsandi pretty and very very very funny
Miriam Margolyes a heart of gold and a very sane head ( forget her foul mouth)
Raj Bisram lovely chap , seemingly kind and positive man always smiling
Paul Martin seems a genuine bloke comes across as gentle

Can’t believe how many like that bumptious Clarkson and I agree about the Angel woman seems very fake
Never have seen any wow in Monty Don he’s ok but I don’t understand the appeal
Matt Hancock nottooold after today’s revelations are you still a fan

DH read an article about Escape to the Chateau that said they were a nightmare to work with. She is, however, unbelievably creative.

BlueBelle Fri 25-Jun-21 18:25:52

Oh forgot I really like Sarah Davies in Dragons den

A friend saw Christopher Biggins in a shop in Birmingham. She spoke to him and said he was friendly and jolly.

I’d be SO disappointed to hear that Biggins wasn’t lovely!

I think an evening out with Janet Street-Porter and Christopher Biggins would be great fun!

You'd probably have roadkill on the menu, GrannyGravy!

Casdon - re Angel, you're going to think I'm a right cow bag now, but here goes.
I think that she is fake and a fraud.
I think that her persona is extremely contrived.
She is a very good business woman, granted, and she has done very well with very little real artistic talent.
(Sorry! blush Please don't anyone come back and have a pop at me - we are all allowed our little moments of outspokenness!)

No pop from me, we knew her and her parents when they had a restaurant at the end of our road, I will say no more…

Dick Strawbridge was our AC’s Commanding Officer many years ago and a really nice man (not sure his ex-wife and children agree though)

NotTooOld Fri 25-Jun-21 17:22:44

Phil Spencer, Adam Frost, Monty Don, Matt Hancock, Sarah Gilbert, Jonathan Van Tam, Jenny Harries, both the Frenchmen on Chateau (owners), Jeremy Clarkson, Boris (admire his optimism), Wayne (the Cockney on Auf Wiedersehen), Daniel (Coronation Street), Mo Mowlam, Kate Middleton (doing a good job)............I could go on but you'll be bored by now.

Mary Beard anecdote...

I saw her speak about her latest book a couple of years ago. It was a bit of a comedy of errors, none of it her fault. Late starting, problems with the sound etc. About halfway through someone took ill and had to be stretchered out.

Prof Beard was so thoughtful and concerned about the person who was ill and took it all in her stride.

Grandma70s Fri 25-Jun-21 17:05:15

The newsreader Jane Hill comes across as a lovely serene person.

And yes, Mary Beard should definitely be on this list.

Paxman presented an excellent series a while back about Victorian society through the lens of the work of Victorian artists. Really good stuff.

Dinahmo Fri 25-Jun-21 16:48:57

Monty Don, Adam Frost. Don't like Carol Klein - too much fake enthusiasm. Paul O'Grady - love the Battersea programmes. Patrick Grant and Esmee Young (hope we'll get another Sewing Bee). Jeremy Clarkson - very good in Millionaire. Paxman but I doubt we'll see much more o fhim, sadly.

I found it impossible to dislike Clarkson (even though I feel that I should) ever since he did a lovely series about Europe many years ago.

Yes, I remember that series about Eurpoe MayBee70 . It was really enjoyable and Jeremy came cross so well in it, rather than being a complete a...e. I rather like him in Millionaires too.

As an antidote to this (almost) all-male love-fest: Mary Beard.

Me too annodomini

Another fan of Simon Reeve here. I also love Edd China from Wheeler Dealers, although I can't stand his co-presenter Mike Brewer, and I also love Tim and Fuzz from Car SOS.

Callistemon Fri 25-Jun-21 16:35:08

Oh yes, Simon Reeves

Artaylar Fri 25-Jun-21 16:24:46

I enjoy a good travelogue and favourite presenters of this type of programme - Simon Reeves, Ben Fogle, Michael Palin, and Martin Clunes.

Also loved Timothy West and Prunella Scales on their canal jaunts. Jane McDonald on her cruise jaunts comes across well too.

AA Gill, sadly no longer with us, was not universally liked, though he did write excellent and thought provoking essays about places all over the world.

Callistemon Fri 25-Jun-21 15:41:36

Ellianne

Jeremy Clarkson now on both threads for me! An instant irrational no, but a yes when he is being funny.

Yes, I agree.

I used to loathe Top Gear but I rather liked him on Millionaire and have yet to see the farming programme.

Gyles Brandreth
Monty Don
The BBC Points West team - David Garmston, Alex Lovell, etc and lovely Ian-On-The-Roof giving us the weather forecast.
Hugh Jackman
Sally Magnuson I only came across her in RL once but she was lovely

DD met Gordon Ramsay through work so I'd put him on both threads - awful on TV but kind and considerate in RL, apparently.

Kalu Fri 25-Jun-21 15:13:40

I have met Anita Manning a few times at her Antique Rooms in Glasgow. She is a genuinely lovely lady who I have enjoyed chatting with be it antiques or hats, which we both love!?

Monty Don
Miriam Margoyles
Ian Hislop
Jeremy Clarkson
Harrison Ford
Diane Keating
Helen Mirren
Kirsty Wark
Sally Magnuson

Alegrias1 Fri 25-Jun-21 14:44:58

Can I put in a word for Sean Batty, weather presenter on STV?

He gets a bit over excited about isobars but last year he did such a lot of activities for children during lockdown, and anybody who didn't shed a tear when he presented that wee boy with his own weather map must be very hard hearted indeed!
