Good morning all from Edinburgh. I haven't a clue what the weather is like, since we have no Alexa and no view from our hotel window, the only view is the back door of Primark! (BTW, the visit was a success got the lilac knickers I have been searching everywhere for!) At 8am, we were the only people in the shop, it felt really strange, to say the least.
Yesterday was very full on and a tad stressful. (Once again, poor hearing and inability to listen on DH's paid a huge role in that chaos!)
It started with breakfast and went downhill after that! We went into M&S for breakfast and decided on Ciabatta rolls for breakfast. While we were waiting, I ran into the food bit, then ended up going round and round in circles, trying to find the way back to the café. This was not any old M&S café, this was M&S Princes Street, of which the basement is a warren!
The breakfast arrived, it looked delicious, but it wasn't what we ordered. ? Unfortunately, the lady who served it was deaf and couldn't speak. She thought we were complaining about her. ? I was frantically trying to reassure her and remember basic sign language from my teaching days. All I wanted was my blooming breakfast!
It was eventually resolved, with a refund, smiles and apologies all round and I have to say, I can thoroughly recommend recommend the oak smoked bacon and ciabatta roll!
Edinburgh was full of good humoured ( some of rather hulking appearance) rugby fans and there was a great atmosphere, but they were walking in huge groups, taking up the whole pavement. Social distancing was ignored, so we spent a lot of time wandering through the gardens.
There was some fantastic singing in the streets, everyone was joining in with all the national songs. However, it was totally surreal, sitting in our hotel room, hearing the Marseillaise, being sung, France weren't even playing!!!
In the middle of lunch, my phone rang, it was DS2.
DS2: Mum is my dad there, I need to speak to you, urgently? ?
Me: Your dad, sister and BIL are here too, we are in a restaurant.
DS2: I need to speak to you alone, now! ?
^ Me^: I will come outside, but it's really busy and noisy
Outside I went, phoned DS, but couldn't hear a thing, as the restaurant staff, decided at that moment, to empty the glass into the recycling bin beside me, rugby fans were singing and a multitude of buses going by.
DS2: Mum we bought dad a whisky barrell, table for the garden, but we can't get it past the cars. We are stuck outside your house!
Me: You have two options, either put it in the Ebay queen's garden or get my car keys and move my car.
DS2: Is that the keys with a picture of all of us on the keyring? I am in your bedroom!!
Me, Wow, you would never had the initiative to think of that in the past!
Phone rings again.
DS2: How do you put out your mirrors and why is the display in German?
Me: Actually it's Dutch! ( That's another long story.)
Then radio silence. Our parking is really tight, we have two cars, parked side by side, parking is down to a fine art and DS2 has never driven my car. Boy was I worried.
I then got a message from my friend across the road, this is all that was on it.
??????????????!
Phone rang again.
DS2: Mum, do you have a different alarm? I'm trying to put it on, I've managed to move the barrell. Oh, no.........
^ Me^: Aaaaaaaargh!!!!!!
Anyway, I have posted a photo of the final outcome. Oh and my delicious, long awaited Mexican lunch was cold, by the time I got back. ? Of course it was all DH's fault, because his birthday today was the cause of it all!!!
I will fill you in tomorrow about DH going missing, (because he didn't listen ....!!!) I have rambled enough.
We are off home, but there is a rail strike. We are catching the Megabus instead. I'm not looking forward to it, because DD suffers badly from travel sickness.
Fortunately, DS2 is picking us up at the bus station, otherwise we would have a convoluted journey home. Into the bargain, we have purchases to carry. DH got carried away in the book shops. I of course, am innocent. [Wink]
Sending warm wishes and hugs to Grannysomerset and hoping you are feeling a bit better. Sue and Kitty, praying you have better news today. ? Auntieflo, as always you are in my prayers and I hope pain free.
I do like the title of that book, Ashcombe. Going by the events of the last few days, it may need to be two novels! ?
Its Mr MDoll's birthday today, so he has a reprieve! I love him dearly, just not at the moment!!!?
For those with plans or meeting up with family, have a great Sunday!
My photos won't post, I will be back later
