Countdown and Ann Robinson in the Chair

I haven’t watched Countdown in years but have recorded today’s first episode to see if Ann is a little less hard on the contestants.

AR was interviewed on Woman’s Hour today and she was talking in general about certain phrases which are no longer acceptable and she didn’t understand why and neither do I. She said ‘mixed race’ was out and ‘mixed heritage’ in. I suspect she will tread on a few toes in the coming months as that is her style.

The previous presenter Nick Hewer offered to give her a few pointers which I believe she declined.

Anyone else watching it?

When I saw the ad for the show- I thought it was a spoof and wondered who they'd used to portray her. Looks like she has had so much plastic surgery, her all expression has changed and she can barely move her eyes or mouth!

I'm not sure I could watch the programme having seen the advert as she looks so odd now.
It makes me feel rather squeamish.

Me too, I feel slightly nauseous when I see her.
She has been so “lifted”, collagened, botoxed, hair dyed and made up that one wonders how she still functions.
What saddens me is that she is 76, surely the job could have gone to a younger person?

She said she won't be allowed to be as rude and outspoken as she was on The Weakest Link. PC and woke have curtailed that but we will see.

Well thank god she can hardly move her mouth, but it`s what comes out of it bothers me.
Surely she can`t talk to contestants like she did on the Weakest Link.
I can`t see me or dh watching tbh.
She must be cheap to employ.

I am sorry that casting directors don't give new, young talent these opportunities. We seem to see the same people recycled in different roles, all the time.

Don't care what she looks like, don't care how old she is.

Do care that she is an attention seeking person without much in the way of brain power, but a good ability to court controversy. Won't be watching.

Wasn’t impressed I’m afraid-can’t see her lasting very long

I love Countdown and I'm really sad Nick has left. I'm not going to criticise AR's appearance. I wouldn't do that. But I do think there was the opportunity to give the job to a younger person.

What I liked about Nick was that he was intelligent and courteous. I wish they had found someone else that was educated and intelligent not just another media person that we get ad nauseum.

I watched her being interviewed this morning, it really upset me, her face, so sad .

BlueBelle Mon 28-Jun-21 18:11:58

Her poor face she can barely open her mouth to talk what vanity that a woman of 76 feels she she needs all this stuff done to herself
What a daft mare
Can’t be bothered to watch

I haven't seen her on Countdown yet, but heard a snippet on the radio of her talking about it, and was struck by how how her speech has changed - sort of laboured, indistinct. If that is now her 'normal' speech, whatever the cause, I am surprised that she was chosen for countdown.

I wonder how pleased the surgeon(s) is/are with their work.

I agree Bluebellwould. I wasn't sure at first about Nick but I grew very fond of him.
I think AR is a mistake. Nothing to do with her looks, more her personality.

grandMattie Mon 05-Jul-21 15:33:08

I wonder if AR will last more than one season. No one I’ve spoken to or read had anything positive to say about her.

Surgeons regularly just pocket the cash and discharge their patients. And onto the next one!

At least with AR on screen daily, they have the opportunity to continue to see what they have achieved.
