Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Ellianne Sun 25-Jul-21 21:04:16

Perhaps this was the precursor?

Ellianne Sun 25-Jul-21 20:59:53

I agree. A bit Madonna-ish?

Calendargirl Sun 25-Jul-21 20:57:01

I’m no fashion expert, but always thought the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress was a bit spoiled by the rather prominent bra cups.

Ellianne Sun 25-Jul-21 20:07:03

Yes, I agree, it was very nice.

Alegrias1 Sun 25-Jul-21 19:51:06

The long blue/grey one Ellianne. It was very elegant.

Mollygo Sun 25-Jul-21 19:49:40

Alegrias1, I’ve not seen that exhibition although I’d like to, but I saw an exhibition of wedding dresses in France-and like you I liked the ones I could picture myself wearing.

On the subject of wedding dresses, I went to an exhibition of royal wedding dresses at the V&A a few years ago. I wasn't really looking at whose dresses they were but surprised myself by thinking one in particular was much nicer than the others. It turned out to be Camilla's dress from when she married Charles. Maybe it was an age thing, that I could see myself wearing it.

Do you mean the floor length blue one with the coat or the shorter cream one with a jacket Alegrias.

I know this isn’t a fashion thread but I’m not always a massive veil fan, sometimes it can detract from the dress?

Lucca Sun 25-Jul-21 19:11:00

Yes that’s better. Very splendid and so good to see dresses without the obligatory strapless arrangement

Ellianne Sun 25-Jul-21 19:07:13

I think it looks a bit weird! Maybe just an odd photo

In what way Lucca?
Try this one from Tatler. I think the bra cups are less prominent in b & w!
The lace does it for me.

Anniebach Sun 25-Jul-21 19:05:29

Perhaps witness , perhaps not .

Diana's niece. Beautiful wedding dress and veil, Dolce and Gabbana.

Oh come on. He's left a role as a minor Royal doing things he was probably bored stiff with to live in a mansion next to a sunny beach. He has two children to play with and enjoy. He can dip in and out of public life when he feels like it and he has a wife who will organise things for him (some men like that you know). Why shouldn't he change his life if he wanted to?

Of course he can.
As we are a family who have had many émigrees over centuries as well as those who moved from country to town, all over this country too it seems normal to me.

But to publicly trash the family you left behind who feel it is their duty to carry on working in the family firm (whether they want to or not) is unforgivable.

So if someone moves away from a family where they haven't been happy, where they perhaps witnessed their mother being spoken about and treated abominably they should keep quiet about it? Isn't that a bit Victorian? Don't we urge survivors to speak out?

eazybee Sun 25-Jul-21 13:14:21

Absolutely no reason why Harry shouldn't change his life if he wanted to. After all, nobody attempted to stop him, did they?

Wonder if this is what rankles, as he does not present as a happy and fulfilled person.
Is this what has unleashed the Great Disgruntlement?

But if he and Meghan had stayed I don't think they would have just been "minor royals". I think at first Charles and William (as in The Fab 4) were pleased to have them on board, as was the Queen (as in The Commonwealth). Meghan promised to bring so much to the monarchy, it is disappointing. So many, "if onlys".
They moved away but took the baggage with them, which is ironically exactly what they want.

We don't need the Fab Four and family costing us a fortune Do you think it's good queen can have say in laws especially thoses that affect her private interests and change a transparency law to hide her embarrassing wealth. Her staff of Asian or mixed race are still not covered by the race and equality law from decades ago queen opted out of that law. The book The Palace Letters out now. By professor Jenny Hocking the Australian 75 PM dismissal She was kept fully informed but did not warn the then PM

So RF spend public money freely
Does not involve herself in our constitution
So has no role to play
Do not have an impact on tourism
Finding Evidence proved in independent report Royal patronage is not worth having. As RF do not visit over 70% of charities which gives them plenty of time to pursue their own interests.

So what are they there for why do we have them?

I hope the Billboards about monarchy going up tomorrow will make people think. We deserve better

Callistemon Sun 25-Jul-21 12:27:30

It's interesting, there's a similar but converse situation in our family from a century ago but the youngest was left behind to run the family firm and the rest emigrated.

If Harry had deliberately set out to cause his 95 year old grandmother the maximum amount of hurt and upset he could hardly have done better.

I am absolutely disgusted with him.

Sparklefizz Sun 25-Jul-21 12:19:57

trisher Why shouldn't he change his life if he wanted to?

No reason at all, trisher, but did he need to trash his family? It's the way he has done it that is the problem.

I was brought up to treat people as I wanted to be treated. Would Harry like it if William did the same to him? Would you like it if you family tore you to shreds on social media?

Ellianne Sun 25-Jul-21 11:42:44

crossed post, same ideas Fanny.

But trisha he certainly never gave any previous indication of being bored or unhappy.

He seemed very happy in his various activities: doing whatever he did in the army; in the company of his family- dad, brother, sister in law, cousins; with his various girlfriends; larking about Ed Sheeran and that car share bloke; travelling all around his beloved Africa; finding purpose and validation with his Invictus charity etc etc etc

While he seems so happy and fulfilled now…
