Good Morning Everyone,
Its a bright and sunny start here in Brackley this morning.
I noticed yesterday , the increase of traffic locally, due to the forthcoming F1 GP at Silverstone this coming weekend .
Mind you with one F1 team based in the town , plus motorsport related others it will be busy locally .
Take Care,
Mick

Agree about the battle bamboo can give Grandmafrench. The variety that was planted here puts out runners and Oh Boy, they do run! Everywhere ?.

Grandmafrench ??? I'll be taking no food, just my hard hat !

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest Lancashire coast. GD, D1 and S1 here today, so glad it’s a good one weather wise. Not sure what everyone wants to do, but the egg chair on the back patio will be put to use and DD cooking tonight, lasagna or spag bog. I might even put a little makeup on and make myself look human.
Sat through Love Island (although reading my kindle) with DD last night, crumbs, pumped frightening lips and general superficiality. I once watched Celebrity BB but this really is trash. Good job I had a Trollope to hand?
Love Chester, I had a caravan not far away near Delamere Forest and love the countryside around there. I miss it, but not the faff of packing stuff up and going to the well for the water (tap) it was just a simple site which I liked, a small tin box in a field, now being upgraded to big static homes.
Good news Ashcombe, back to read through later and hope you all have a good day.

Good morning all - I read all the msgs on this thread but seldom post.

But I had to send a msg for Alizarin - you will love the Mexican Feather Grass. I've had one for many years and of all the plants I have in pots, it's my absolute favourite. Never gets more than two feet high, comes back every Spring. It's glorious and feathery and I love to run my fingers through it as it waves in the breeze.

Taking car for its MOT this morning and then have an actual conversation with a real live GP this afternoon so what passes for a busy day in this house. Hope all is well with Marydoll.

Good morning from a very cloudy Essex by the sea. The forecast for the rest of the week is looking good.
I have a couple of visits this morning, one to a friends house to open his post, he is away for the next couple of months and one to our accountant to drop off last year's accounts. Then its off to the supermarket and the charity shop.
I may go and give the inside of the car a clean this afternoon, it's very dirty, mainly from DH's visits to the boat yard.
Great news Ashcombe, I hope you and Olddudders will be reunited soon.
I do hop Marydoll is ok, it's not like her to not post.
Have a pleasant Wednesday everyone xx

Good morning, Mick and everyone from a still grey Carlisle. Where is the sun this summer?!
It is dry though so I managed to mow both lawns yesterday. The new turf does have a lot of rye grass in the mix and it's mostly its flowering stalks I'm cutting off as the actual leaves aren't growing much.
Today may/should involve ironing and putting some shelving together to go in my hall cupboard. I need to do the same in the garage also but that's a bigger job. So far, I've had no problems putting things together but quite a lot of things seem to need 2 people so I am limited in what I can do.
I might well go to the garden centre after lunch, I have a token for free coffee and cake so I can't pass that up. It will be a miracle if I come away without a plant or two though.
I hope that trip happens, Ashcombe, I've heard of others getting to France and elsewhere recently.
A sunny day to you all.

Good morning Mick and all from hot and humid Lueneburg.
I decides yesterday to make the best of the hot weather and went to a swimming pool in the next village. Natural water and 22° warm. I did my best swimming a few rounds (didn`t manage a lot). Then I rested on the sun lounge and read my book. Later I ate french fries and curry wurst (sausage) and swam some more. Just a little bit of gardening when I came home. So I had a lazy day - I am rather lazy by nature any way. I was pleased to read what Ashcombe wrote. I didn`t know about that. So maybe I shall be able to visit Britain soon ass well.
Have a pleasant day all. I hope that Marydoll is ok. Missing Urms , Panache and sheep.

Is that the name for Stipa? If so, I absolutely adore mine. But you must be a very strict owner, supernanauna1, because my grass (Wiggy) has successfully raised his enormous family all around my garden. Everywhere I look there are small plants. OK they’re so easy to pull out or re-pot (they cost a fortune from garden centres) and I just love them, but they could be invasive! We have tremendous hot winds here and the grasses really do look so pretty, so I’m a fan.

I swear our bamboo in Normandy could have grown out of the grass and up my trouser leg when I just sat for a coffee, muse. Secateurs in a belt and a beady eye at all times were necessary. If I say that a murmuration of starlings dropped into some of it every night……you’ll probably get the idea. ?

Apologies for the drunken photos.

Morning everyone! Sunshine everywhere with me at the moment. Utter bliss! Esspee, my husband used to say how strange he found it that people didn't find flowers or plants appropriate gifts for men as he loved both. Think on but....you know your friend....... Hope everyone recognises at least one high spot today.

supernanauna1 Wed 14-Jul-21 09:51:17

Yes it is stipa Grandmafrench - I'd love if my plant had babies but it never has. Maybe it's a male plant? As you say, they are very expensive and I'd love to have offspring to give away but it's never happened. Mine came as a baby from my sister's garden. The first two she gave me I planted in the soil but they didn't survive. No.3 went into a pot and has thrived ever since. They are very graceful elegant plants and when the ends go fuzzy at this time of year they always remind me of hair with split ends!

Grandmafrench Wed 14-Jul-21 10:08:03

Since the UK left the EU, there’s no way to import/export plants (other than with a licence) - otherwise I’d happily send you a boxful! Such a shame!

Loved your comment, holly - seems like there were plenty of trollops around.

muse Wed 14-Jul-21 10:41:39

supernannual I’m another fan of grasses.
Do you watch Gardeners’ World? Monty Donn planted up his paradise garden with Mexican grass and tulips. Photo. It looked amazing when the tulips were out. He grew the grasses from seed - nearly 100 plants I think. I plan to do something similar for our new garden when we’ve finished building! I need about 50. ??
I call them pony tails. ?

Grandmafrench Wed 14-Jul-21 11:05:36

I'm getting really annoyed now, muse because I have so many that I will just have to throw away, dozens and dozens of healthy little plants. A boxful for you would have been easily organised, France - Cornwall, in the Good Old Days.

By the way, I recently watched Monty pull up and dispose of all of his. They didn't grow successfully, it seems, due to the wrong (too damp) site/drainage? ?

Borrheid55 Wed 14-Jul-21 11:16:31

Esspee what about a some lottery tickets? Or a donation to his favourite charity?

Dogsmakemesmile Wed 14-Jul-21 11:18:13

Good morning everyone. Beautiful day in the Scottish Borders. Housework done. Just walked to local supermarket for the first time. Used crutch. Bought newspapers and strawberries. Wonderfully liberating. Spoke to several people I haven't seen for months. Lovely. So grateful to have reached this stage in a very simple journey of recovery. Heat was the real issue so kept to the shade. Planning this afternoon's venture. Have a good a day as possible.

muse Wed 14-Jul-21 11:21:05

Missed that one grandmafrench. I remember seeing Longmeadow flooded. Huge thank you (clay soil here) and also because I hadn’t realised they were so invasive. Need a new idea.

Alizarin Wed 14-Jul-21 11:45:19

Sounds like I've been given a little beauty, with the Stipa. How lovely, and this time yesterday I didn't know they existed. I've pm'd you
supernanauna1.

Nannagarra and Grandmajean - Chester is the city where I was born (quite a long time ago!! I do love a visit, but haven't been for quite a few years. My sister and I used to run along 'the rows' must have been a pain to other shoppers. Lived first of all in Newry Park, then moved to Long Lane, Hoole. Moved to Scotland just before I was 6

Opposite for me Gwenisgreat as I am originally from Scotland and moved to Cheshire over forty years ago. Am still Scottish but love it here. Chester is our nearest "big town"
