Shouldn't be moaning as its Summer but even in shade i can't tolerate it...used to be a sun worshipper in the 70s now i hide in cool house☀️

After living in Oz for several years , when you see that the forecast reckons it will be in the high 20s, you get blase and think that's nothing! Then you remember that the heat over here is sticky and uncomfortable!
I try to practice a bit of mind over matter and try not to keep thinking that it's hot and I'm hot!
Must admit that I have been staying indoors, the curtains on the sunny side of the house closed, windows also closed , to keep the hot air out, until the evening and then open the windows to let the cooler air in.
Just invested in new pillows that are supposed to breathe to keep you cool, along with 100% cotton sheets and pillowcases as well as a lighter duvet that isn't filled with polyester!

BlueBelle , I'm truly glad - and envious - that you love this weather, but it's also true that, for some of us, it's hell, quite literally. With a very fair skin and seemingly lacking an internal thermostat to warn my body , I have never been able to tolerate the heat.
Quite simply I'm like the hydrangea bush - wilting, internally roasting and unable to perspire.
In 1976, pregnant with my fist child, I spent August in the living room, with curtains closed, and my feet in a washing up bowl of cold water.
I'm just about to email my choir to say that sadly I won't be able to attend the coffee morning in a member's garden tomorrow - to which I was looking forward, as there is no way I could cope with the heat, even if I sat in total shade.

So yes, all you sun lovers, ENJOY. Just be a little tolerant of those who are not.

I don`t like the heat so i stay indoors with the front and back doors open to get a breeze through the house, works for me.

MissAdventure Mon 19-Jul-21 10:44:52

It's actually advised to keep windows closed when it's too hot.
Opening them only let's the heat in.

Lady Stardust

For goodness sake open the windows!
Keep the curtains closed if you must but a through draft makes all the difference

Think the problem is no gentle way into it ?one minute in jumpers and then having to strip off!??

I am merely thankful I can enjoy it while it lasts. Current husband is also relishing life being able to see after cataract surgery.

When i was little; no fans ..no fly swatters/ used rolled up newspaper to swot...we dealt with Summer and harsh Winters with stories from Grandparents like ..you don't know you're born!! Never really understood this but with life experiences know i do?

I am always sympathetic to those that cannot stand the cold especially for those that suffer with arthritis, I commiserate when wet weather forces people to cancel plans but when I complain that I cannot stand the heat am told to stop moaning.

It's 25C in the sitting room but 34C in the garden according to DH's weather station.

I was going to sit outside in the shade with a book and a cool drink but thought better of it.

My windows are all closed upstairs or open a fraction. Open windows will only let hot air in when there is no breeze. Blinds closed until tonight when I open the windows. This is the Mediterranean way to keep rooms cool. It sort of works ?

Aveline Sun 18-Jul-21 13:37:18

I open windows in early morning to let cool air in but shut them as the heat starts to build. All blinds down fully too. It's a relief in the evening to open up again and enjoy the cooler air.

When my children were little we didn’t have aircon and I used to drape wet towels over a clothes horse and put the fan on them. Baby underneath!

Bea65 Sun 18-Jul-21 13:07:19

Hi Nanna8, my kitchen temp is 66..have portable fan which only moves round the warm air so switched it off as wasting electricity/wasting money/global warming etc... yes i'd love the lemon marshmallows..will have to increase my iced cocktails -?and lots of this!

nanna8 Sun 18-Jul-21 12:36:23

Flies don’t come much when it is over 35 C and neither do mosquitoes. I assume those are the temps you are having ? Grannyactivist those lollies sound lovely. How do you make lemon marshmallows? We have a lot of lemons this year, everyone round here has for some reason.

Every window in the house is open wide; French doors are open wide but there's not a breath of air blowing through. I'm with MissAdventure on this: I feel as though I'm being boiled alive.

henetha Sun 18-Jul-21 12:28:57

I HATE it. angry Really hate it. I watered the garden early and now have the patio doors open and intend to stay in all day.

Bea65 Sun 18-Jul-21 12:25:28

Amazingly haven't seen any flies perhaps its too hot for them to bother Anyone??
Happy Hot Sunday?

Aveline Sun 18-Jul-21 09:30:16

I'm not looking forward to recuperating from my hip replacement op in this heat. Our south facing flat turns into an oven at the first ray of sunshine. Blinds down all day for me and the fan set at gale force!

Ellianne Sun 18-Jul-21 09:13:53

Even hotter here today.
I'm so glad its next weekend I'm picking up my new puppy. I would have been very concerned in this heat.

sodapop Sun 18-Jul-21 09:02:39

I'm with you MissAdventure cool or colder weather all the way for me. I'm glad those who enjoy the sun are happy. We are having unusually cold and wet weather here for July, think I'm one of the few people not complaining about it.

B9exchange Sat 17-Jul-21 23:20:54

Well here on the Ardnamurchan peninsula it is overcast and drizzly, are you jealous? grin

Infinity2 Sat 17-Jul-21 23:15:26

Grannyactivist - bring some of your lovely grub round here !! It sounds fabulous.

grannyactivist Sat 17-Jul-21 23:12:14

Today I had a short business meeting at 10.30, in the courtyard of a local hotel and felt par-boiled by the end of it.

I have a grandson staying at the moment so after a trip to the allotment to collect some raspberries we made lemon marshmallows and some raspberry and white chocolate muffins. Fortunately my house keeps quite cool in even the hottest weather so I didn’t quite melt, but I was glad when it was cool enough for him to go off on a bike ride with his grandad.

I’m happy for the sun bunnies to have a few days of this heat, but prefer it a few degrees cooler myself. ?

MissAdventure Sat 17-Jul-21 22:55:26

smile
You must have had a gallon or two today?
Hotter tomorrow.
