Good Morning Everyone,
Its a grey and wet start here in Brackley this morning , will watch some of Olympic mountain biking this morning , before going out to Bicester later .
I have had thoughts on doing what I have done before lockdowns ,and make a full day of it and include Buckingham in the journey , but will see what changes occur over coming weeks.
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning from the NE where we have watery sunshine.
DH's hospital appointment went well but BIL was not allowed in with him. Security guards are on the entrances preventing escorts and visitors. Covid numbers are high with people going out and about more.
Quiet day today before DH's chemotherapy tomorrow.
Nice to read about your holidays, you are all so energetic.

Good morning everyone from an overcast Peak District. We leave today for home, I am really very tired now and will be glad to get some rest!

Stopped for ice creams yesterday at a viewpoint overlooking our cottage, picture attached.

Good luck to those with medical appointments, stay well everyone.

Good morning everyone from a dull overcast start to the day here on the east coast of Fife. My DH is getting ready to visit his DB with his birthday gifts

The mean b has stopped giving anyone gifts himself I’m getting annoyed these days (unchristian like) by his behaviour especially as he’s not short of a Bob or two.

When he told me what he’d given to his poor wife for her birthday I called him a cheapskate

I wonder if he ever listens and does it really matter

Does anyone else have this problem I’d love to hear from you.?

Moving on I’m getting excited for my next visit from my dear niece she’ll be a breath of fresh air. I did so enjoy my DS visit yesterday morning when he came to say goodbye unfortunately he had to stay in a holiday inn on route to his home as the traffic was horrendous to say the least. Hope he gets safely home today

Have a good day everyone may goodness shine on all of you today keep safe and DAE AS YER TELT flowers

Good morning Mick, morning all from cloudy South Lanarkshire.

Yesterday’s outing with DGD was a joy, we had a lovely time together and it felt so good to be in the city again. The only blip was that the train home broke down so DH had to come and rescue us.

I’m meeting a friend for lunch today, the last couple of weeks have been really busy catching up with people which has been made even more enjoyable by the glorious weather. I fear today may be the last alfresco meal for a while though.

Fab belt Alizarin!
Sorry you’ve had a bad night gM.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day.

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 27-Jul-21 08:26:50

Good morning all from bright Harrogate
A welcome cooler day today!
That’s quite some belt Alizarin
There was a change of plans yesterday, Dgs did not stay overnight (phew) I just had him for a bit in the afternoon. My sister phoned so he told her he was Jack and the Beanstalk. Then we went in the garden to look for beanstalks - he planted some seeds then came in and had his tea! He is such an endearing child.
After your comment Marydoll about Virginmedia, I am going to investigate their high speed, I believe it comes at more than a price, but is condensed to a smaller area. I’ve had their engineers out twice this year but they can’t do anything apart from charging more for broadband to cover the whole house.
Will keep you informed
Today will be very quiet. DH has to have a PCR test before having his procedure on Friday.
Have the best day you can folks

Marydoll Tue 27-Jul-21 08:30:17

Gwen, there is an App, which allows you to check for weak spots in the WIFI, you can then ask for Virgin to supply boosters or reduce your payments.
I will be back later, once I check with DH what it is. He says he is going to contact them today, there is more chance of pigs flying!

Lovely photo of Monsal Dale, B9; one of our favourite haunts.?

Good morning from Durham - where we’ve had no rain for weeks. The ground is rock hard and but at least it means my grass has stopped growing.
I’ve bags to drop off at a Charity Bin then the neighbours are having a meeting about an unsuitable industrial development that has outline approval near us.
Hope everyone has a good day.

ginny Tue 27-Jul-21 08:40:03

Good morning all. Overcast but fairly warm here this morning.
We had a lovely day on the beach yesterday although as you can see , 5 year old DGS nearly got eaten by a chair. No harm done to either.

Today we are staying in Aldeburgh. We’ll find somewhere nice for lunch and have a wander . Then, probably some time on the beach , weather permitting.
Hope you all have a good day with a smile along the way

Good morning from Shetland where low cloud sits on the top of the nearby hills.
Yesterday’s weather turned out better than forecast so we got an unexpected walk in, just round a nearby headland. However in true Shetland tradition, a squall came in and we got soaked for the last half mile. The attached photo was taken just as the sky darkened. All a bit strange as the sea was so unusually calm.
Today we will get wet again. We have booked a session in the leisure centre pool. It’s ages since I did any swimming-hope I can remember how!
Take care and stay safe everyone.

Another good morning from S Lanarkshire. A long day yesterday which included an appointment with my optician before my child watching. I had been dreading it because the sight in my right eye has deteriorated hugely over the last lockdown and I was really afraid that it was the macular degeneration to blame, ergo nothing to be done.
What a relief to find it is a cataract which has regrown, which of course, is fixable.
The optician then explained that because the eyesight in my left eye is sufficient for daily life, I will not be considered a priority in the present circumstances, with waiting lists of up to a year.
Given my age, I have decided to bite the bullet and have it done privately. I know it’s not a fair system but my quality of life is really being impacted now, I can only read when I can enlarge the print and am now only driving when I have to.
To be honest I shouldn’t even be doing that and have been screwing up my courage to make the decision to stop entirely.

A quiet day planned now, with a friend coming for coffee later,

Wishing everyone the best of days??

Pittcity Tue 27-Jul-21 08:59:32

Gwen and Marydoll, I had luck with Virgin Media when we moved house. I told them that we were going with BT because we couldn't afford their prices. VM matched the BT price plus we still had the fast speed...half of what we were paying before. Press the "thinking of leaving" choice and the person who answers has more discounts to offer.

Good Morning everyone from hot and sunny etc.,

Not surprised you’re tired B9 - wonderful view by the way. I think we’re very unused to going off on holidays now. Shame. It’s going to take some time to re-adjust, I reckon. When I worked, it was a different problem. We worked very long hours and even worse before and after any holidays. But once on a holiday, I’m afraid we used to get rather over-excited and go a bit mad. Many holidays involved driving - as I got more and more disenchanted with flying. So, there were times when we’d start a holiday in one country and return home really tired - having been tempted by the delights of one - or two - more. Ridiculous fun, but almost always lived to regret it!

Ash is quarantine for visitors from France to England to be abolished from 1st August? Hope I didn’t dream that and your DH can start making some plans.

Alizarin that’s a fabulous knitted belt. Unfortunately, I’d need to start by knitting myself a waist first. ?

Glad he’s able to start some more Chemo, Harri. Does seem as if the bad numbers are dropping in the UK - or is that just England? Hospitals, Clinics etc., should - in my view - still stick to the highest standards of care possible and although it’s hateful, non-patients need to be discouraged from attending. Masks, sanitising, all of it to a high standard around those who are sick or vulnerable. The French President’s determination to make all medical staff and Care workers be vaccinated - without further delay - has been passed in law. Most people, thankfully, are more concerned about Covid than the views of those who are happy to please themselves. It was a disgrace that only 40% of such personnel had bothered to be jabbed to protect those they were treating!

In our family, Elizabeth we tend to stick to cards for everyone, presents for children (and each other) and presents for everyone on ‘big’ birthdays, like 21, 40, 50 etc., I think you should give presents to whoever you choose - it’s a lovely thing to do and a personal choice, but I wouldn’t consider giving regularly to anyone who never gave presents and was mean! So, know how you feel!

I’ve invited 12 people to lunch on Friday - having worked out all the garden seating. They haven’t confirmed yet, but I hope I don’t live to regret it……already trying to visualise 24 large half peppers on trays in my oven for starters. Think the rest of the food must all be prepared in advance, to avoid heat (and heated kitchen debates!)

Have yourselves a lovely day, all. Keep safe and ? smiling.
?‍♀️???????? and hugs !

Stilllearning. Your health, your responsibility, your life to live as you choose it, your money, your decision. So pleased it wasn’t what you dreaded and you’ll be able to sort your precious sight out soon. ?

Ashcombe Tue 27-Jul-21 09:18:00

Ash is quarantine for visitors from France to England to be abolished from 1st August? Hope I didn’t dream that and your DH can start making some plans.

Grandmafrench: as far as I can understand this will only apply to travellers from France who have had their vaccine abroad but are registered with a UK GP. The interpretation varies according to the source so we aren’t making plans. I have family visiting this month who can only do so in school holidays and then my surgery is already advertising plans to deliver combined flu and Covid vaccinations in September as a joint operation with other local practices.

Nannytopsy Tue 27-Jul-21 09:21:37

I presume those 12 are all from this thread GF ? Lunch in your garden will be lovely and do we bring our swimming stuff? Looking forward to seeing you!

Alizarin Tue 27-Jul-21 09:28:46

I'll come too GF and bring you a waist. winkwink

Grandmafrench Tue 27-Jul-21 09:38:50

Yes, NannyT - and that’s just the first tranche. I shall be passing amongst you with available dates soon - so sort out that diary! And BYO swimming cozzies. ? Oh, how I wish. Wouldn’t that be fabulous - so many lovely people to meet up with in person.

Ash insane (of course) and makes no sense (of course). The same vacccines (most of them) are used in every European country. Like everything else, we probably need to wait until it actually happens. Then all we’ll need to do is watch for the time it stops happening!!! Wonder what the Govts will do with all their spare time once Covid has gone? Just as well you have a life and can be happy getting on with it, eh? Have fun with those Props….it sounds rather like ‘de-cluttering on steroids!’

Grandmabatty Tue 27-Jul-21 09:39:00

grandmafrench my invitation must have been lost in the post. I'm on my way ?

Grandmafrench Tue 27-Jul-21 09:44:08

Good morning Mick and all Morningsters

Rain in mid Cornwall but I must attempt a walk with Mya

I’ve filled the last hour catching up with various threads on GN, a lovely pm and emails. Some have brought a smile to my face and lifted my heart but one hasn’t.

MrM are both at the doctors this morning so there are worries from both of us about each other.

Ashcombe Tue 27-Jul-21 09:51:07

Sounds wonderful, Grandmafrench!

hollysteers Tue 27-Jul-21 09:51:36

Good morning Mick and all from Cloudy Chambers Lancashire coast.
After not really looking forward to friend’s visit, really enjoyed it. About time I had company. I think it’s being alone, doing my own thang and getting selfish that has come over me.
Sun, tea I garden then into town for a nice italian ? Rather noisy in restaurant and I should have asked for table upstairs with a view, massive chandelier and quieter.
Yesterday into town and an extensive antique/vintage maze my friend hasn’t seen before. He loved it, it seems to go on for ever. Then on to an exhibition at our arts centre, really good and afternoon tea, or rather meal at our equivalent of Bettys in York, wood panelling, waitresses in proper gear, silver teapots and Al Bowlly music.
It’s a pity my back gives up the ghost after tramping about, but we can’t have everything.
Very touched reading about Oopsadaisy’s friend. Very sad.
Will return to read through.
Hope you have a good day.
