Many years ago I had a premonition that a situation that I longed for would come true.....It hasn't yet but is still possible.
(I can't give any details)
Have any of you had a premonition that came true?

No

Just coincidence. As my father used to say if you think that something is going to happen and it does some say they have had a premonition. Same as when people say things ALWAYS happen in threes - they don't you only remember when they do otherwise it goes out of your brain.

yes, none of them earth shattering, wish I had more though
One I do remember is when FIL was going to have open heart surgery I had a strong feeling it was going to be postponed, and I said that, and he said that no it would go ahead, he'd been taken off the medication he needed to be taken off. It was postponed - for a week - no premonitions that time. Odd as he lived a hundred miles away, knew nothing about the hospital and he didn't much like me, so no idea why it came to me. But maybe because I was used to being told I was wrong when I was right

Most of my premonitions occur when I am fully awake, doing something quite ordinary, and not thinking of the person involved.

They have nearly always come in the form of my suddenly feeling that a friend or relation was in some kind of trouble or needed me. If possible I have grabbed the phone and got in touch with the person the feeling was about,

Often there has been something wrong, occasionally I was told everything was all right, only to learn later that it definitely had not been all right.

I have also seen people in places where they swore they had not been. Some time later I would see them in the flesh in that place, or learn that they had been seriously worried at the time I "saw" them.

I have on the other hand had many premonitions that never took place (that I know of, that is).

All the time, it’s weird?

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 29-Jul-21 11:16:11

I dreamt that I had won ERNIE I remember thinking I had to pinch myself so I would know I was awake, which I did. Can you imagine my disappointment when I really woke up finding that I had just dreamt I'd pinched myself??

I dreamt that my husband (a pilot) had phoned me to say a plane had crashed. Later that day we heard a plane had crashed in Cork, killing 6 people. Coincidence?

I had the same dream about lottery numbers but when I woke up was trying to understand why my dreamt numbers contained two that could not be birthdays so did not alter my chosen numbers. The numbers in the dream came up and I got four. That will teach me !! The other numbers were birth years.

The night John Lennon got shot, I woke up shortly before 4am, which was unusual for me to wake in the night. Next morning I heard the news and then later realised the 5 hour time difference between us and New York meant that was around the time he died.

(I am a Beatles fan but Paul is my favourite not John, but that has always stuck in my mind as a bit spooky.)

The day of my daughter’s graduation many years ago, I was in my seat in the large venue and saw in my mind an elderly gentleman fall over walking on the podium. About half an hour later, the exact scene I saw in my head became reality. The very same elderly gentleman toppled right over in front of a huge crowd. I have gut feelings virtually every week and always trust my gut. When I was working in a supermarket, the security guard informed me that as his daughter had just turned nine, he’d changed his hot picks lotto numbers. I warned him it was a bad idea and to play his original number 8 along with the two other numbers. He came to me the next day and said” I really wished I’d listened to you- I lost out on winning quite a few hundred pounds there?”

Many years ago I dreamed that I was following my brother down a steep flight of stone steps in a fairly dark building. He went into a small room at the side of the stairs and suddenly a lot of bars came down from the ceiling and blocked him in. he was trying to get out but couldn't. I woke up and later that day discovered that he had committed suicide.

My partner had bought tickets to see an afternoon performance of Cirque du Soliel at the Royal Albert Hall, it was on a Sunday and we drove into London and parked up being around 4 minutes late. It was about 10 minutes into the performance and I froze & shivered, my partner noticed it asked what was wrong and I said I was overwhelmed by the performance.
I worked for a company where by I travelled around the Country and on the Monday I set off and phoned my Dad who lived on his own but got no reply.
That evening I tried again but no answer which wasn't unusual as he had a good social life, however this happened a couple of times and the coming weekend I was due to fly to Italy for a conference so it was hectic in our household.
On the Thursday I had appointments in Manchester I set off very early to avoid the congestion of the M6, I pulled up outside my account walked towards the door and turned around got in my car and drove back to Birmingham. I had a key for my Dads I walked in and there he was lying dead in the hall.
I remember sitting at his little desk and looking down at the paper he was reading which was the Sunday papers he collected for himself and the neighbours after going to Church I believe my shiver was my Father dying.
I had been there for about 20 minutes with the paramedics doing what they expertly do when the phone rang and it was his Sister calling from Ireland, her words were "I know", as in my heart so did I.

oh gosh Annaram1 so sorry to hear this..

well I get lots of "feelings" as I call them, not premonitions..
but I think of myself as quite "discerning" not always correct though! but mostly.

trisher Thu 29-Jul-21 11:26:07

I haven't had premonitions but I have sometimes taken decisions that seemed at first to be utterly stupid but which led to things improving later on. I usually refer to it as a good instinct.
My late MIL believed in guardian angels. During the war hers told her to take her baby and get out of the hotel she was staying in. She did and took the last train out of the town. During the air raid that night the hotel took a direct hit and everyone in it was killed.

Yes... Just over 44 years ago when I was pregnant with my eldest I dreamt that I had her by caesarean with an epidural anesthetic which was unheard of at the time. Guess what...it happened. The anesthasist didn't even know how to do an epidural but the doctor delivering my baby did. It was the first one done in the hospital and became the norm eventually.

My daughter, then 15, came home for lunch saying how terrible it was about seating area collapsing at Pink Floyd concert. I hadnt heard of anything. I knew my best friend had gone.
The next day it was all over the news. It had happened the night before. My daughter had told me about 9 hours before it happened. I freaks her out if I mention it

albertina Thu 29-Jul-21 11:34:34

Sadly I had one that I would find my mother dead. I moved her into a lovely sheltered accommodation flat. My then fiance and I had a lovely dinner of fish and chips with her and I told her I would be back in the morning to finish unpacking for her.

As I drove towards the flat I knew that I would find her dead. Don't know why it happened. Ironically she is now buried a few yards from the spot where the feeling hit me.

How is something a 'premonition' if its not come true? Is that not just a dream then? I do have 'deja vu feelings' from time to time (used to quite often) where something happens (like a conversation for example) and ill say "oh, I dreamt of this happening" im told i get them because of epilepsy, the deja vu feelings, but my son occasionally gets them and he has not got it.My dd has got it, but never gets these feelings.Quite odd.

Lulu16 Thu 29-Jul-21 11:41:44

Yes I do believe in premonitions. It happens to me regarding particular people and places.
I have moved to a place once where I had a strong image of a river plain in a dream. It was like an unexplained pulling towards this place.
Some people can recognise this phenomena in others. It is very weird but true.

jaylucy Thu 29-Jul-21 11:50:07

Many years ago a young friend was seriously injured in an accident and several people said the prognosis was good.
Not sure if this is a premonition but a couple of evenings later, I was at a sporting event that my friend used to compete in and I had the strongest feeling that my friend was standing behind me. The next day it was announced that he had died at about the same time.
I also find myself thinking of someone that I haven't seen or spoken to for some time and within a day or two I will either meet that person or they will contact me out of the blue!

tigger Thu 29-Jul-21 11:51:50

So many and I have now learnt not to ignore them.

GraceQuirrel Thu 29-Jul-21 11:54:28

About 30 years ago a male friend of mines wife was pregnant. I remember being upstairs drying my hair and suddenly thinking that she’s not going to have the baby. The phone started to ring downstairs and it was him saying that she had lost the child.

grannyactivist Thu 29-Jul-21 11:57:57

Not really a premonition because I think it was a sort of inevitable thought in the circumstances, but I was with my daughter and her new baby at a local event on a beautiful, warm summer day. I remember looking at my daughter, who was having the loveliest time and was the picture of contentment, and having a sudden gut-wrenching moment of fear for her. Her husband was serving in Afghanistan - he was killed just a few days later. [Sad]

LeeN137 Thu 29-Jul-21 12:03:25

Not so much premonitions, but I used to have dreams that would come true.

They'd come in loose groups. I'd have on, and it'd come true around 6 weeks later. Then, close to that 6 weeks, I'd have another that would come true in less time, and then have a similar situation, until the dream came true a week or so later. Then they'd stop, until they restarted out of the blue.

I'm not religious but I said a little kinda 'wish' to our lady when in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu in Gozo, that my then troubled and somewhat lonely 19 years old elder DS would meet someone who thought he was the best thing since sliced bread! ...6months later-he did! Their relationship lasted 14 years .sadly ended badly as change from a beautiful Caring young lass of 16 into a serial 'taker' of my son's generosity self worth and even his money! Be careful what you wish for.....
