Text in some of the many languages of the world

MissAdventure Fri 30-Jul-21 13:19:31

It rhymes with stone! Rotten predictive text.

MissAdventure Fri 30-Jul-21 13:18:55

I say scone to rhyme with scone, in my horrible estuary accent. shock

Alegrias1 Fri 30-Jul-21 13:15:13

Ailidh

Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig.

Tha mi Albannach ach bidh mi a' bruidhinn Beurla.

Mise cuideachd, Ailidh. (should that be vocative? smile )

I always think that its ironic that it is so difficult to pronounce ionnsachadh!

FannyCornforth Fri 30-Jul-21 13:15:02

Ha ha! Got out of the wrong side of bed today Polly?
Deary me…

We have a phrase in our family - “You need to get out more”

At least EP has something original to say

That’s true. Beats talking about The Royals

Yes, I rhyme stone with scone.
Is there something wrong with that?

Everything!

Me too FannyCornforth. There is nothing wrong with it; both pronunciations, i.e. to rhyme with stone or to rhyme with gone, are acceptable.

Thank you.

As a result of your post I have found this video.

So I have now learned some interesting things today as a result of this thread. Some things that I might not ever have learned otherwise.

Thank you (tapadh leat) for that lovely link! I'd not seen it before. ???????

It is just a chat thread.

A chat implies participation and interchange, otherwise it becomes a monologue.

Instead of ‘kill two birds with one stone’, I say ‘feed two birds with one scone’.

Excellent.

You don't have to fit in with violent sayings.

As long you are not rhyming “scone” with “stone” ???

Well, eight posts so far and no interest shown.

Yet maybe some people are looking but not posting.

Maybe someone will post and the thread will get going well.

I think this shows that something is very much expected, but people are just not interested.

FannyCornforth Fri 30-Jul-21 11:45:43

As in the TV program ‘Flog It!’
I can’t imagine that nice Paul Martin getting involved in either activity

FannyCornforth Fri 30-Jul-21 11:43:52

Up until relatively recently, I misunderstood the saying, ‘flogging a dead horse’.
I thought that it meant trying to sell a deceased animal of the equine variety, as opposed to beating it.

ElderlyPerson Fri 30-Jul-21 11:43:46

MawBe

I think you are flogging a dead horse EP

It is just a chat thread.

I would prefer a vegan acceptable phrase - I would never flog any creature, living or deceased.

I would need to think about what phrase I could coin.

In the background some beautiful music has just started.

Here is a link.

Well, if you know of some language and would like to post something in that language that would be good.

Then those readers who so wish could try to find out which language it is and what the sample text means.

ElderlyPerson Fri 30-Jul-21 10:43:38

I don’t understand what’s expected here, tbh.

Well nothing is expected but if you want to have a go, you could watch the video to which I posted a link and then copy the title and paste into Google translate and detect the language.

Then if you wish you could paste the title into a search engine and added a space and the word

lyrics

and find the lyrics.

There may be an invitation to translate to English. If not, you could copy and paste into Google translate and get an idea of what the lyrics mean in English.

Then you could play the video again and notice how the singer emotively expresses the lyrics, whilst you are understanding the gist of what she is singing about.

Nor do I.
Does OP just want people to write random things in random languages ?
