The odd way we see things

Yes, Tuesday is yellow, Thursday purple, and Saturday brown.. Everything has a definite edge. I had a lot of trouble with that one when an art student. My tutors didn’t agree.

Bluebelle when I read the word orange in your post, Donald Trump wandered into view.

I dream in colour, I thought everyone did!

Grandmajean Sat 07-Aug-21 11:15:32

Here's an odd one - I have often read the question "Do you dream in colour?" and my own experience of that is I HAVE NO IDEA as colour or black and white don't seem to register with me in dreams. Not even sure that makes sense. Hope you get it !

I m intrigued with this colour business how it actually works If I say Monday do you get a flash of colour come into your brain or does the word Monday come into your head coloured in a certain colour….. likewise the orange neighbour do you get a picture in your head of a tangoed lady walking past or do you just think the word orange when you see her
I appreciate things in colour(in real life) but if I close my eyes and think say of a blue sea I only see the black/ grey wall of my closed eyelids, I can imagine the blue sea in thoughts but I don’t see it ! likewise a person I can imagine them to describe them in detail but I don’t actually get a picture like a tv screen picture inside my head

When awake but with eyes closed, a face will drift in.
It is so fleeting that I don't get a chance to check them out properly.
Will pick up on whether old young, male or female and a distinguishing feature eg large nose, beard, hat etc.

It is usualy just the face and never one that I recognise.
Sometimes it is side on or half turned.
No colour almost like a photographic negative.

I see first names in colour:
Jane is red
Margaret is pale blue
Samantha is green
Etc.......

All this seeing colours business is totally alien to me. Or so I thought until I saw my name described as wishy washy pale blue and felt quite insulted. Please tell me Maggie’s bold and bright. grin

Is it similar to kinaesthesia?
Like Mary, I’m having a think…

Many of you saw things in colour.

Is it synesthesia? Or is that different?

Some time ago I read a book called The Colour of Bee Larkham's Murder about a boy who saw sounds in colour.

I sometimes see people or places as if I'm looking through a telescope the wrong way, so they are small and far away.

Wow!!! This is so fascinating . I don’t experience anything so interesting. I am intrigued.

My daughter works week on week off and can tell you which dates she is free way ahead without even thinking about it. I asked her how she does this and she described that in her mind she can see a colourful calendar where each day has a different colour and weeks are divided into colours as well. She can also memorise strings of numbers no trouble. Also if travelling to somewhere new, one check on google maps and she knows exactly where she is going, very handy for foreign city breaks when they were allowed.
I'm not bad with the maps in that I make visual memories of where I am going but the coloured calendar is something I could do with.

I see a similar year NanKate. Mine goes clockwise from a darkish January at the top. It gradually gets lighter as we head towards the summer months and gradually gets darker from autumn to January.

I see things in colour too. Each day has a colour , as do numbers, and everyone’s name has its own colour. For example today, Saturday, is navy blue and tomorrow will be black.

The earth does spin anticlockwise on it's axis so that makes some sense.
I am afraid I don't visualise anything interesting though smells are very evocative for me. I buy basil for the scent, it's summertime in my world. I also find men who have been important to me all smelt lovely.

If you are asking about years, I suppose I see them like a very long, hanging tape measure that is being wound up at one end. They are winding up above and unwinding below.

eazybee Sat 07-Aug-21 09:28:57

Two and Monday are blue, three is green, five is a golden white. Saturday is white and Sunday is grey, but in a smart way. Wednesday and Thursday are yellow and green, Friday is a nice rich brown. Tuesday a darkish murky colour.
My next door neighbour is orange.
The year is divided into three sections: Winterspring; Summer; Autumn. Christmas ought by rights to be at the beginning of January.

NanKate Sat 07-Aug-21 09:05:32

How interesting Septimia

Septimia Sat 07-Aug-21 08:44:23

That's interesting. I see the year as a disc lying at an angle with the months around the outside. Autumn goes down, anticlockwise, to December with January/February at the bottom (Feb just starting to come up again) then on upwards to July at the top.

NanKate Sat 07-Aug-21 08:42:54

I’ve just closed my eyes BlueBell and saw dark orange and chocolate colour. ?

Thanks Mary I’m making an effort to join in.

Yes do have a think Fanny

BlueBelle Sat 07-Aug-21 08:04:34

It’s interesting that you see different rather romantic visions of inanimate things that normally have a standard shape probably shows a very inventive mind I m fairly artistic but I don’t think I have ever seen numbers as other things and the world just feels like the normal globe in my head (how boring am I) but then I think I m a fairly practical and down to earthp person I think a fairy tale personality must be much more fun
If I shut my eyes I definitely am in black and white ( just tried it)
I bet you’re going to get lots of colourful posts on this one

Signed Ms Boring

Lovely to see you starting a thread, Kate, my mind is blank! I will have a think!!!

NanKate Sat 07-Aug-21 07:20:34

About 4 years ago on GN I asked if any of you saw things as I do and there were some great replies. Now we have so many new folks on here I thought I would update the thread.

To begin, I see the year as an ellipse rather like an egg lying sideways January is at the top, April at the 9 o’clock position, June at 6 o’clock, September at 3 o’clock. Yes I am going anti-clockwise. I hope you get my drift.

I see the number 5 as being female and 6 male.

Many of you saw things in colour.

Over to you.
