Has anyone heard from our Australian poster, don’t think I am supposed to mention names, but we know who I mean!!

BlueSky Sat 14-Aug-21 17:54:40

Oh Yabbie I encouraged you to come back and gives us some news about Australia, any news! Sorry if I’ve got you into trouble!

nanna8 Sat 14-Aug-21 14:11:11

No they don’t cut it off but if it goes wrong it can be hard to get help during lockdown, no one can come in the house.

BlueBelle Sat 14-Aug-21 13:48:02

Do they cut the Internet off when you go into lockdown nana8 he never seems to have had any trouble with his internet connection before so doubt he’s in a remote area

Allsorts Sat 14-Aug-21 13:46:42

Rufus is probably having a whale of a time all these women concerned for him. Hope you’re ok Rufus.

nanna8 Sat 14-Aug-21 13:44:35

Well here’s hoping he will be back soon and wondering what the fuss is about. He is in Melbourne I think- probably in hard lockdown unless he is out in the regions so maybe no access to internet ?

Yabbie Sat 14-Aug-21 13:43:30

I actually asked if people wanted me to give some "news from Oz" or if it was just news about a particular person that was being requested. I asked because I was unclear about the purpose of the thread, and not because I wanted to usurp or subvert the thread.
Perhaps you would be kind enough to notice that I asked, before responding as I did.
I rather resent my response being called irrelevant and impolite when I clearly asked if people wanted me to respond with some news from Australia and received a couple of replies which I interpreted as positive.
Believe me that I had no intention of being either irrelevant or impolite and I apologise.

BlueBelle Sat 14-Aug-21 13:29:15

Bluesky Rufus hasn’t left GN the pm I sent to him went through but wasn’t answered which indicates he is ill or away from his computer and he usually tells us if he’s going away for a reason
He’s 94 so we obviously are concerned for his well being

FannyCornforth Sat 14-Aug-21 13:23:10

Yabbie it’s more the fact that we have been talking about our concerns for a missing friend; and your contributions were irrelevant to the conversation, and were impolite.

Yabbie Sat 14-Aug-21 13:14:40

I'm very sorry if my references to the nicknames of our leaders caused offence. I included them solely because they are regarded by very many people as typical of Australian irreverent humour. These particular nicknames are commonly found in all Australian media and are generally employed with a certain degree of affection.
I had hoped to amuse rather than offend.

BlueSky Sat 14-Aug-21 11:24:24

It is a problem when posters you like disappear, especially if they are older. I’m thinking of Alexa and Bijou for instance, if you message and the message doesn’t go, I guess it means they’ve left GN?

FannyCornforth Sat 14-Aug-21 07:36:39

Oh no. Thanks Jacky

Jaxjacky Sat 14-Aug-21 07:32:54

GNHQ said yesterday they could not help with any information on Rufus. I think they tried. Sad.

BlueBelle Sat 14-Aug-21 07:23:18

Maybe we can leave the politics and consider why this threads was started to see if there was news about a 94 year old poster

Start your own thread about Australian politics if you want yabbie

I find this one of the most upsetting things about forums when someone disappears and we never know whether they are ok or not

Some years ago I made a friend on a local forum we never swapped emails just talked on the forum I didn’t even ask her a real name but I liked her, we had a lot in common, one day she just stopped posting and from that day to this I have never known if she died, became ill, lost interest ( I doubt) or what
It’s not a nice feeling to be hanging there is space with no end story

Lucca Sat 14-Aug-21 05:41:21

And Yabbie, I'm in Sydney and have never heard our Premier referred to as Bin Chicken. Perhaps you are just unable to pronounce her surname. As I said, not nice.

If you google it there are many references to it……

nanna8 Sat 14-Aug-21 04:25:28

I’ve never heard that term, either. Not nice. I feel sorry for the lot of them just now. I don’t particularly like Dan but this time round I think he is doing the right thing. Problem is, he seems to just love being dictatorial and puts me in mind of Xi jinping . Guess that is where he gets advice from.

Elspeth45 Fri 13-Aug-21 11:00:57

Yabbie, that's not a fair thing to say about Gladys and Scott. It's a very trying time for everyone.

Yabbie Fri 13-Aug-21 10:29:08

Sorry, we're about 150/160km to Marysville.

Megs36 Fri 13-Aug-21 10:19:16

I too sent a PM which appeared to ‘go’. Rufus usually replies so very worrying this time. There have been many posters on GM that ‘disappeared’ and no news, not many of us have anyone who would file the gap when there’s computer break down or unavailability so look forward to Rufus’s come back soon.

Yabbie Fri 13-Aug-21 10:07:14

I live in a place called Benloch. It's so small that our only public building is the CFA; no shop, no pub, no school just the Country Fire Authority sheds.
We're not currently locked down because we're regional. I still work three days a week in Melbourne which is seriously locked down at the moment.
I have a small farm in the Great Dividing Range; which is just hills where we live.
Local news is mainly related to straying stock and dogs. Good news from the farm is that one of my Wagyu heifers has dropped a heifer calf. We're thrilled because we've had an absolute plague of bull calves
Victoria's news is mainly focused on the Very Slow roll out of vaccination and the Melbourne lock down. We also spend a significant amount of time tut-tutting at NSW for their poor lock down and rampant spread of covid. Daniel Andrews (state premier), our beloved "Dictator Dan", is much admired and respected in Vic.
We regard Gladys (Bin Chicken) Berejiklian (state premier of NSW) with Great Suspicion.
Slo-mo, Scotty-from-marketing, Scott Morrison (prime minister) is generally despised by all.
Winter here at the moment. We've had a lot of rain, actual mud has been detected in gateways and on my old Clydesdale's legs (he's a mud magnet). No snow, infuriating, we expect snow twice a year. Might be some actual grass in the next couple of weeks.

Infoman, Marysville is lovely and seems to have recovered well from the fires that devastated the town over 10 years ago now. You wouldn’t even know they had had any. It is quite isolated, though and must be doing it tough just now with a lack of tourists. We always go to Bruno’s garden when we go there, different every time .We live about 50 kms from Marysville so it is a nice day trip for us over Black Spur.

BlueBelle Fri 13-Aug-21 08:47:29

I too am concerned about Rufus, I sent a pm but no reply but it was sent so he’s not been banned or anything
Thanks for contacting HQ jaxjacky hopefully they will perhaps know if he’s account has been used

Jaxjacky Fri 13-Aug-21 08:13:07

Still no news, I’m rather concerned, I’ve contacted GNHQ.

infoman Wed 11-Aug-21 17:27:03

Yabbie,I spent a lot of time in the Marysville area,is that close to you?
To you and nanna8 always appreciate any news about that nexk of the woods.
