Is it just me, or have you noticed that it’s a bit quiet around here of late?
Have we run out of stuff to talk about?
Feel free to talk about anything here…

Yes -the film thread is great!
I love Miaow Voyager!

I am on of those guilty of posting a lot about politics/EU/Brexit Mawbe because it is a subject that concerns me, I like to chat, discuss, argue the toss about it with people, maybe learn a bit as I go along, and I do not plan on stopping doing so because a few people find it a bit tedious. I find the games threads tedious; I therefore don't go on there. I certainly don't go on them to tell others they keep going on about the same thing. That would be rude, surely? I loved the film names thread and laughed out loud at a lot of them.

Talking of nail varnish( platypus second poster on this thread ) .......yes I know am way behind ? but does anyone remember the clear nail varnish you could buy with just a tint of pink. I loved it because it really made my nails look good. Anyway can you still buy it or something similar as I’ve looked everywhere without success.

Chewbacca

We had a fairly new poster called ElderlyPerson who started several interesting threads that he often attached videos or music to and they always attracted a good response. Unfortunately, he was spoken to rather unkindly and hasn't posted since.

EP has just posted on a Chat thread.

ElegranThe press (the DM in particular) often trawl MN for stories on what is considered slow news days.
They need human interest stories and it’s a lazy way to get em.
I do relate to the child free woman in the story.
And the way some people behave in zoos is disgusting!
So there’s my opinion smile

Elegran Mon 09-Aug-21 17:59:48

How about posting your thoughts on this Manchester Evening News report about a Mumsnet thread? Both on the thread and on the fact that it seems to have been thought interesting enough to be quoted in the media.

Heavens above! shock
Two deleted posts that I missed!
What have you been up to?!

muse I will take a look - I’m not certain what ‘making people tick’ means though

The things that cause someone to behave a certain way : the feelings, opinions, concerns, etc., that are parts of someone's personality?

FannyCornforth Mon 09-Aug-21 17:43:03

Jane hat is always more interesting

Callistemon Mon 09-Aug-21 17:42:16

I watched some of those, JaneJudge but am not really interested in him and his second lot.

Callistemon Mon 09-Aug-21 17:31:13

Lillie

galaxy
yes like dick strawbridge on that chateau programme

Some beards are ok but I'm not keen on large bushy ones that look as if they could have yesterday's egg hidden in there
(I'm sure they don't!)

Hi FannyCornforth
Just started a new thread on Chat. I'm always interested in what makes people tick.

I dont mind tattoos but I really dont like beards, I am sure it's an unreasonable prejudice but I just cant be doing with them.

This, exactly, Alegrias.

And then there is a very small handful of posters who will shoot down every single thread posted, every single post. That they would have accepted by other posters, but will shoot down because of the poster. It is so evident that everyone can see it.

Alegrias1 Mon 09-Aug-21 16:56:02

I guess I'm a shooter down...

In the last couple of days I posted on the Lady Magnet thread, answered a poster who was worried about a family member and shared a medical experience which I thought would help someone else.

But I don't mind a good old verbal joust when someone posts something as though it was gospel truth when its not, or if they post something quite extreme...

It doesn't mean I think you are less clever than me, or less educated. But I stand up for what I think. blush

Lillie Mon 09-Aug-21 16:53:14

i dont see how any one poster can be more knowledgeable than another about lifes experiences
arent we all different in that respect
yes just chatting

Tizliz Mon 09-Aug-21 16:52:04

Remember the BT ads, it’s good to talk? Was that Bob Hoskins

Callistemon Mon 09-Aug-21 16:46:50

Try again

perhaps afraid to be shot down in flames by those who regard themselves as more knowledgeable or better-educated than others v

I remember naively starting a thread about a topic in the news when I first joined GN. It wasn't particularly controversial but I got shot down in flames by one poster who obviously didn't agree - it was a shock for someone new to this type of internet forum.

So I can understand why some retreat altogether; others develop a thicker skin or decide they don't care as they don't know these people in real life.
And I can understand why posters are hesitant.

Anyway, back to the OP - sometimes it's just nice to chat.
