Do you like it, and does the icecream man come to your neck of the woods?

Lastly, what is your favourite flavour, please?

Alioop Fri 13-Aug-21 12:40:32

I can here his chimes in the distance, but he doesn't come as far as my house. We have a few local ice cream parlours as I live by the sea so I've a couple of favourites.
Chocca Bear- vanilla with chunks of
honeycomb & Belgian chocolate
Strawberry Cheesecake- vanilla with biscuit & strawberry sauce. Also jammie dodger ice-cream tastes the same.
Bailey's & Biscoff mixed together in vanilla ice cream. This is my latest to try.
Honestly a Mr.Whippy with lime sauce & a flake beat the fancy ones though any day.

Witzend

Not bothered, but I like a bit of vanilla on some hot puddings, e.g. bread and butter or sticky toffee. But then I don’t like cream.

It really grieves me to add that yesterday I threw out two virtually full tubs of ice cream - one chocolate something or other, one strawberry sundae - which I had allowed young Gdcs to choose from the supermarket.

Neither of them liked their choice! So I won’t be doing that again. Dh* and I will never eat them, and they were taking up too much room in my small freezer, so they had to go.
Sinful waste, I know.
*he loves Magnums, though!

I never see an ice cream van here, but one is a regular visitor to dd’s road, where there are a number of young children.

I never throw food away. Surely a neighbour, friend, relative or even a random person could have helped you out and enjoyed it.
I have to admit that if I couldn’t have found anyone else to take it off my hands I would have eaten it rather than discard it.

Probably explains me being a bit overweight.

I've not seen an Ice Cream Van for many years - but around here there are mostly 'older people'.

However, there's always one in my favourite park - so that's a very welcome part of our visit.

I'm Coeliac, so can't have their Cones or Wafers. Have to ask for a 'Tub'. Usually buy my own at the supermarket and get Ice Cream from there as well. Favourite is Vanilla with Caramel swirls and some nuts (NOT Pistachio or Almond though).

Short answer No. Haven't seen one here in years.

Nana4 Fri 13-Aug-21 12:11:02

Yes, I love it, beating all the children in the queue ?

Lupin Fri 13-Aug-21 12:07:35

Never seen in my area.
My daughter used to take a van out during the summer hols when she was at university. She had to work very hard and never got a break. I used to pick her up from the farm that made the ice cream and I was working my way down a list of fab flavours as I waited. My favourite was ginger and honey. closely followed by Christmas pudding.

Every Sunday, regular as clockwork, at 1.15 smile It's a local family-run one, that used to come to the estate where I grew up too. the ice-cream is white and the best! I don't have one very often. Chocolate's my favourite but only have it when on holiday. Has anyone tried the one in Waitrose, half chocolate, half orange sorbet? Oh my days!!!!!!

Grannanannywanny ours too, just love them

Aepgirl Fri 13-Aug-21 11:53:12

We have an ice cream man who lives down the road here, but he only comes up the road after he’s been to an event and has ice cream left over!

If I have ice cream out (really only like it at the seaside) then it’s usually coffee.

NannyDaft Fri 13-Aug-21 11:43:51

Yes
Rum and Raisin ! Or vanilla

Theoddbird Fri 13-Aug-21 11:36:56

I would get a shock if one drove along the riverbank...hahaha I don't eat icecream.

Mishy Fri 13-Aug-21 11:34:57

We have 2 ice cream vans which circle around weekly both are ok but expensive so have stopped giving my custom. Shame really.

Janetashbolt Fri 13-Aug-21 11:33:23

We get a van every day even in winter!!. My favourite flavour is Haagen Daz macadamia nut brittle, not been able to get it in the UK since they closed their store in Leicester Square about 15 years ago.

Grannynannywanny Fri 13-Aug-21 11:29:22

Annanan

When my daughters were little we used to tell them that the ice cream van bells were actually the vicar on his rounds. They believed us for a long time… I’m not sure they’ve never forgiven us!

That’s just reminded me of a friend 40 odd years ago who told her children the ice cream van chimes were to let everyone know he was sold out.

crazyH Fri 13-Aug-21 11:21:52

Yes
Yes
Pistachio

pen50 Fri 13-Aug-21 11:19:47

Yes, yes, and I have a 99 but in a cup not a cone.

Moggycuddler Fri 13-Aug-21 11:19:26

I like ice cream but only what I buy from supermarkets. I never trust ice cream van people to be hygienic enough, specially since covid. But I'm a bit obsessive about things like that.

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 13-Aug-21 11:18:56

Chocolate every time!!

4allweknow Fri 13-Aug-21 11:16:44

Not what I class as ice cream but yes a Mr Whippy type van cones round. Horrible stuff, I won't buy it for myself or GC. It is just so artificial. Fortunately there are some shops still selling traditional ice cream where I can have a treat of a salted caramel one if I fancy.

ayse Fri 13-Aug-21 10:46:44

Loved having little sorbet balls in France rather a long time ago and still love it, Italian made now.

Magnum in Turkey used to do a yoghurt and raspberry inside with dark chocolate outside.

Not keen on supermarket ice cream so usually treat myself when by the coast to Italian made vanilla and chocolate.

Just love warm apple pie with a good vanilla.

I love good ice cream but don’t have it too often.

silverlining48 Fri 13-Aug-21 10:42:36

Actually this was last night, they are all quiet this morning thank goodness ?.
Here’s an emogi and I don’t care if they are not what we thought they were. (another post yesterday )., What with my name suddenly being an insult I just can’t keep up,
K

silverlining48 Fri 13-Aug-21 10:37:39

I just punished a packet of plain salted for being so noisy . That’ll teach ‘em

MissAdventure Thu 12-Aug-21 15:16:18

Ah, yes I see.
Talking food is always problematic.
Crisps get a bit mouthy here, calling out, whispering, coughing politely.

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 15:09:51

Oh and choc ices are not too bad on a diet but I dont want to tempt myself. They would be calling out to me from the freezer. "EAT ME".
