Good Morning Everyone,
Its dry but with grey cloud here in brackley this morning.
Yesterday I received confirmation of a trip by coach a week this Saturday to London ,although price wise it had fallen , numbers wise it does not look as though many will go.
Today for me , small early shop ,and then stay in today.
Take Care,
Mick

Yep we lived in Bowness for 10 years right on the front. We had lovely big picture windows with views across to Scotland. When we moved the new people replaced them with Georgian style! The tide often blocked the road but it only came in the garden once. I will try and find a photo and post tomorrow. ?

EkwaNimitee Fri 13-Aug-21 12:35:43

Gelisajams…Port Carlisle, Bowness-on-Solway? Lovely places to live but I guess you have to be careful with your choice of property as I noted the water will come over the road quite deeply.

Grandmajean Fri 13-Aug-21 12:09:28

Just popped in to check and glad to hear your DH is getting sorted outAsh

muse Fri 13-Aug-21 11:59:24

Excellent news Ash and I hope all goes well with his treatment.

Never had to leave Mya at the vets and hated it. Such a sorrowful loud whimper from her as I left. They are ringing at lunch to tell me what was found and I'll pick her up at 3.30.

MrM has his dressing appointment at 5:00pm. I have my??for that as well. The almost total rest day yesterday seems to have done him good. I will send him off with a list of questions?.
Our slab delivery arrives in one hour. Just had the call. After looking where we are on the map, he's concerned about turning space but has been reassured that despite the single track lane there's a huge turning area. I find it very frustrating that Google Maps only shows part of the lane. Nearly 1/2km is missing.

Cloudy Cornish skies but I shall get more cutting back done today and make a start on weeding the polytunnel. The sweetcorn has run out of growing room.

Lots of mentions about missing posters. Urm said she was taking a holiday and a break two months ago now. It would be lovely to hear from her.

Beautiful tranquil photos from Ali and GF - thank you.

It does sound like Bell's Palsy again Dragonfly. I do hope she recovers soon.

I too had a change of appointment for my steroid injections Marydoll. Not quite as last minute as yours. It was the following week. Glad you won't miss it. I was allowed, at first, to drive home as it was just my left hand but I have both done now. My right hand is a tricky one to do. MrM drops me off and then gets a "pick me up please" call when I'm done. The hospital is just over an hour away and I've been there for up to 6 hours sometimes.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy day.

So pleased you have such a quick diagnosis for OD, Ashcombe.
I hope the medication works and sometimes just knowing what is causing the pain is a help.
I hope you can be reunited soon - get your nurses cap on!!

Grandmabatty Fri 13-Aug-21 11:21:55

Ashcombe that sounds very painful for him. ?

hollysteers Fri 13-Aug-21 11:19:05

Good morning Mick and all from a sunny Lancashire coast.
Off to an exhibition this afternoon, not sure what to wear as breezy. Meeting friend the a meal later on so no cooking.
Sorted a lot of books and bags full for charity, passing on to friends etc. but the house is still like a library. My addiction, but better than heroin.
House empty now as DD back south and just the cat for company.
Thoughts to Ash and anyone with worries. Will come back to read through later.

grandMattie Fri 13-Aug-21 10:52:28

Glad there is now a diagnosis, Ash. And yes, the MOT etc., could be well timed... don't leave him alone too long; commitments are far less important than one's kin!

Ashcombe Fri 13-Aug-21 10:50:54

Thank you all for your unfailing kindness towards olddudders and me. Your thoughtfulness has moved me to tears, some of laughter, for which I thank you, Grandmafrench!

The MRI scan has revealed a chipped vertebrae for which he will need to be treated at a larger hospital in Le Mans, but he thinks he will be going home to await an appointment. He was given a range of drugs yesterday to manage the pain which could take a few days to kick in although the new findings might result in a change of prescription.

This morning, my car is in for a service and MOT so that could be well timed in the event of a long trip!

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 13-Aug-21 10:32:39

Good Morning all from Bright Harrogate. There's certainly nothing like have two lively small children for having a good night's sleep! Took DGD to the park which tired her a bit (that was the aim). In the afternoon we went to pick up dgs fromthe Spanish club he had attended. He has learned to say "Adios" and "olah" and what it means. DGD was quite put out when someone thought they were brother and sister!!
Today we will try once again to get a bus to Ripon. DH will not take the car, last time we tried we waited 30 mins for a bus that comes every 20 mins, when it finally arrived it was chocker. The time before that we had taken the car but there were no parking places.
That's another worry for you Corner hope it proves not too troublesome.
What lovely pictures of your patio Alizarin, your DGDs Sar53 and your trees GrandmaFrench, we walked down a similar avenue in France about 8 years ago. The French certainly have a 'thing' about trees.
B9exchange that's not old for a sewing machine - I hope - I have a computerised one that's 25 years old, and, I hope, still going strong.
Ash I hope it isn't too long before you and Olddudders are reunited, you have such patience.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Party4 Fri 13-Aug-21 10:16:05

Morning Mick and all from a bright West Yorks.
Just done another test (neg)before I make arrangements for my theatre trip tonight.Worrying news from friend saying local hospital cancelling day surgery to release 2 wards for covid related patients. From 10 start of month now 80.Suppose as people are no longer in bubbles infections will rise and post covid chest problems, staff holidays and illness will be bringing pressures usually associated during winter months.
ASH do hope OLD.gets quick diagnosis and treatment and they are able to relieve him of pain, such a worry for you.MARYDOLL good you have earlier appt maybe a general overview or change in meds will help a little.I amaze at how enthusiastic you are in your outlook.
Biting my tongue as ex DIL just let me know doesnt need me for care next week, being DGC mother she does and always will pull the strings to suit herself.I offer help with care enabling her and DS to work but often she uses the time to socialise or cancels for better offer.DS does more than his fair share how many Mums get 4 free nights/3days a week.
Enjoy the day folks thoughts to those with illness and worry.

Blossoming Fri 13-Aug-21 10:14:31

Good morning all from sunny windy Lancashire. Off to the dentist shortly so will catch up later.

Sorry to hear about your DH Ashcombe, hope he’s better soon. You’ll be wiped out after such a hectic day Marydoll I hope you’re planning a restful day tomorrow.

B9exchange Fri 13-Aug-21 09:57:42

Another cloudy day here in SW Herts. Some sad news, the father of a friend on the conference committee I am on died suddenly last night, totally unexpected, though he was 96. My friend is in shock, he is the the Chair, so I could end up having to manage the meeting this morning.

Ash it must seem as though everything is going backwards. I do wish OldUdders better very quickly, he is in the right place for a proper solution, but it must be dreadful to be apart right now.

So many worries on here today, I feel for all of you.

My sewing machine packed up, the foot control doesn't work and a new one doesn't make any difference. The repair man came out yesterday, he was very sniffy about the model, as it isn't a well known make, but it has served me well for 11 years and is otherwise in perfect condition. Seems something has gone on the circuit board where the treadle connects to it, so it will have to go to the sewing machine heaven in the sky unless someone wants one and doesn't use a foot control!

Not one to hang about, there is a new one arriving today. DH took pity on me and agreed to pay half the cost, but there will be less meals out on the holiday in France next month, if we ever get there!

Hoping the weekend brings improvements to those struggling, and some happy times all round.

Sar53 Fri 13-Aug-21 09:42:27

Having now read through the previous posts I want to send my best wishes to Dragonfly and hope for good news for your daughter and to Ash for better news of Olddudders. Poor man he is going through the mill.

MawBe Fri 13-Aug-21 09:38:56

Good morning all. Grey and cool here in N Bucks -ah well, it is August after all.
I am off to Norfolk for a few days to stay with D, SIL and GS.
Commiserations to Ashcombe’s DH. You must be feeling very conflicted
I understand being “torn”. The year I retired from teaching (and really what prompted me to pack it in) I was due to take a School trip to Germany with one other teacher and as it was half term there was NOBODY I could get to sub for me. DH was rushed into hospital in London on the Monday with a recurring biliary infection, D2 knocked off her bike in London on Tuesday, Gracie (dog) diagnosed with major eye problem on Wednesday and D1 at Selly Oak hospital with a suspected DVT on Thursday - she was 6 months pregnant. I was due to leave on the Friday.
It resolved itself though - Royal Free were prepared to keep DH in for 10 days until he was better and I was on my way home, D2 wasn’t injured just shaken and OK in her flat, kennels were happy to do the dog’s eye drops and D1 was fine. The trip could not have gone ahead with one teacher but I kept my fingers crossed, counting on the fact that if DH got worse I could fly back from Hamburg to London in not much longer than it would take me to drive from here.
Never again though. Family first in future for me and the job got kicked into touch.
Wishing him well and relief from his pain though.
As Marydoll says, life can be draining these days, a dear friend is nearing the end of their life, and I too am feeling bleak.
Wishing you all a pleasant day though and maybe the ☀️ will break through.

BlueSapphire Fri 13-Aug-21 09:38:51

Hello from Northampton where it is a dull old morning here. Nothing planned for today except a phone call from the doctor this afternoon to discuss my medication. I may also take the chance to ask about other matters if I am allowed.

The grass didn't get cut yesterday as when I went out to do it, it had been raining and was too wet. May do it later if dry. Had a lovely evening walk yesterday followed by a drink and nice meal at the pub, where I met an ex-neighbour and her family from over 40 years ago. Her son is now a strapping lad of well over 6ft; the last time I was him he must have been all of 8 years old. Think he is about the same age as my DS, now 42.

Wishing well to all not feeling 100% today.

Grammaretto Fri 13-Aug-21 09:31:05

Good Morning everyone from the Scottish Borders.
I have spent so much time reading your engrossing messages that it has stopped raining and the sun is up!

Poor OldDudders I hope you find the cause and remedy soon.
Good luck today Marydoll
Fabulous photo Sar53 what a set! and the garden is gorgeous Alizarin

I am glad your coach trips are up and running Mick. A good way of getting around it seems to me.

I have never spent time in Durham - just seen it from the train or changed trains at the station. I must remedy that.

Dragonfly I hope your DiL feels better soon flowers and good wishes to all with worries and disappointments.
I also miss Urmston, EV, Cherry and Gillybob especially on a Friday and it's the 13th.
A fish supper and wine tonight is on the menu

Gelisajams Fri 13-Aug-21 09:29:17

Good morning from a breezy Morecambe Bay.
I don’t want to name so I don’t miss anyone out but quite a few worries this morning. Hope things turn a corner for so many.
No Scentia this morning hope things are ok.
Ekwa your trip out yesterday sounds like where I used to live at the end of Hadrian’s Wall. Your description brought a smile to my face and some happy memories.
I’m off to a circuits class at the gym this morning. I did set foot in the gym a few weeks ago but this will be my first class in eighteen months or so. I hope I’ve done enough home exercises to cope!
Take care everyone and stay safe ?

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 13-Aug-21 09:19:45

Good morning and best wishes to those with family worries. Pouring here in the Scottish Borders but sunshine forecast. Going to drag a bin bag around with me and sort out things for charity shop/recycling/bin. Listening to The Reunion on r4. Peter Tatchell contributing. I think he is a is a very brave man.
Hoping we will have a spin out somewhere in the car tomorrow. Cabin fever snapping at my heels. I am ashamed to write that as aware many have had to stay within their homes for months. Take care everyone.

EkwaNimitee Fri 13-Aug-21 09:12:24

Good morning, Mick and all from breezy bright Carlisle. I hadn't realised it was Friday 13 until I saw the thread heading. Good job I'd planned a quiet day in. Too much activity this week so my body is in rebellion! It's all very frustrating not being able to do much when your mind knows you are really a fit and active outdoors person!
However, I'm not really suffering like Olddudders. I'm sorry to hear your news Ashcombe and hope he is soon on the mend and painfree.
Dollie makes me smile, Marydoll. What a lovely child she sounds and she must lift your spirits immensely.
I took the car out for exercise yesterday, out to the Solway salt marshes, a little known part of Cumbria thankfully unknown to mass tourism. There were quite a few tourists of the cycling and walking kind about because the road is part of the route round Cumbria. Barely a car about which was nice for me. I was lucky in that the tide was out, exposing the mud flats so that you could think it easy to walk across to Scotland which looks really close. You wouldn't be advised to try it though as there are quicksands.
Well, a pile of filing is looking at me in the office and a bottle of linseed oil is doing the same in the dining area, my table still
awaits its application. I'll wish everyone a good day and be off to do some useful work!

Greyduster Fri 13-Aug-21 09:10:56

Grandmadinosaur Durham Cathedral is truly magnificent - the finest example of Norman architecture you’ll ever see. Be sure to see the friezes in the crypt too.

brook2704 Fri 13-Aug-21 09:01:38

Oooh I envy you Gingster, what a lovely thing to do to sit out under the stars until midnight - how beautiful that must be. I’ll have to think if we can do this here sometime when we get a clear night

Georgesgran Fri 13-Aug-21 08:58:55

Grandmadinosaur - Durham is allegedly built on the seven symbolic hills - so it catches out visitors with how steep some are. As you’re planning on seeing the Castle, be prepared when you get onto Palace Green and get your first proper look at the Cathedral - we’ve taken visitors and they’re dumbstruck by it.
Enjoy your day - looks a good one weather-wise. X

Anniebach Fri 13-Aug-21 08:53:04

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

dragonfly46 Fri 13-Aug-21 08:51:01

Grandmadinosaur we stayed in that hotel in Durham!
