Nice things people do in these times

I absolutely agree, we see examples of good deeds being done around us all the time.
At the beginning of our first lockdown here in March 2020, some of the young Mums set up a WhatsApp group in our small close. This was mainly to help out with shopping and anything else for the elderly and those living alone in our community.
It has created a lovely sense of community spirit, now if someone has something they don't use or need any longer, they post on it and someone is happy to have it for free. It could be unwanted toys or anything in the home environment.
I think we have all become more sensitive and considerate of our neighbour's needs which surely must be a good thing.
What a lovely surprise for your DGS, getting an icecream from his school in the middle of lockdown.

There are kind and thoughtful people out there, we don't often hear about the good things do we. Books and ice cream such a treat, lovely.

I think that there are plenty of good examples.
Our Village has people shopping, or prescriptions for those who were unable able to get out and about and they are still offering help.
We have a bus shelter ( we only get school buses now) and there are crates of books for adults and children and a few toys for anyone to help themselves too. I’m going down with a bagful later with a couple of jigsaws.
So I think it is happening, we just don’t get to hear about it .

I think there are lots of nice people out there and I think the Australians are very good at thinking about their mates.

Years ago I was in Australia and there was a major drought (more common now unfortunately) and there was an advert on tv with Russell Crowe, asking people to donate to a relief fund for farmers.

The last line of the advert was "Do it for your mates". I burst into tears.

Yesterday I saw a lady wearing a T-shirt with the words;

'In a world where you can be anything, Be Kind.'

I commented on it, which generated a small conversation benefiting both of us.?

People certainly seem to talk to each other more in the street during times of crisis. I always chat to anyone who wants to because I think they might be living alone and with our 5 km house arrest and most of the shops shut they might be really lonely.

There are many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, it's just that quite a lot go un-noticed by the majority.
Those stories are lovely, nanna8. It's so nice to hear about good things amidst what seems to be so many bad times. ?

I remember the year when Turkey farmers were hit by Bird Flu and Waitrose was refunding money to all the customers who had ordered turkeys. Apparently many of the customers asked for the money to be given to the farmers who had lost their income instead.
